Source: Tasia Wells / Getty S harpen your kunai and ancestral hats —a Mortal Kombat reboot is finally happening. Fresh off the release of Netherralm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 11 , Warner Bros. will be working with producer James Wan ( Aquaman) to bring Earthrealm’s heroes against the forces of Outworld to life once more. News of the announcement came from ABC Australia reporter Claire Campbell, who tweeted that filming will take place in South Australia and it will be “the largest movie ever filmed and produced” in the region. Premier of South Australia, Steven Marshall, also confirmed the news of the film reboot in the area, which will be in pre-production later this month. The largest film production in South Australia's history! @warnerbros will bring their epic action film, Mortal Kombat, to life here in SA. SA locations. SA crews. SA VFX companies. It will enhance our production capabilities and create new jobs for the local film industry. pic.twitter.com/jkPeRuq1Wz — Steven Marshall, MP (@marshall_steven) May 14, 2019 Along with Wan will be Simon McQuoid making his directorial debut, and longtime gamer and screenwriter Greg Russo will be providing the script. Rumors about the movie date as far back as last year, with a Hashtag Show report discovering details on the reboot’s plot. The movie will be centered around a new character named Cole Turner, who is described as “a Philadelphia boxer that is recruited by a prophecy chaser to compete in a fantastical tournament – the outcome of which determines the fate of Earth and it’s inhabitants.” Old characters and new throughout the MK lore in the initial report are expected to appear as well, including Australian favorite Kano, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, and much more. The first Mortal Kombat film adaptation was released in 1995 and is touted as one of the greatest video game film adaptations of all time. The movie sparked character-redefining performances from Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the sinister sorcerer Shang Tsung, and Trevor Goddard as the aforementioned mercenary Kano. The latter’s performance alone was the sole reason the character was retconned with an Australian background in later video games. Mortal Kombat attempted another reboot before this with the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy , exclusively on YouTube. Tagawa reprised his role as Shang Tsung in the second season, eventually returning once more as the sorcerer in Mortal Kombat 11 . Watch the trailer from the 1995 version of Mortal Kombat below:
Is she man…or is she woman…who knows but she’s got tits…. In 2012, when I posted this clip: I wrote: Chloe Sevigny is in a show in the UK called Hit & Miss. I looked it up and found nothing really about it other than this discription of her role: Chloe Sevigny plays a transgender assassin in the new series. Hot…. This tranny shit is out of control…soon enough they will have a gender of their own…instead of just being someone with a fucked up childhood in an identity crisis…… The funny thing is transgendered people are pissed off that she got cast as a tranny, and that they didn’t use an actual tranny, because her hard face and adam’s apple was believable enough….plus she’s confused as this hipster fashionista talent that is good to have cast on UK tv shows for ratings…even if they have to “Boys Don’t Cry Her”….but the opposite….by straping on a flacid cock instead of just strapping down her titties…. It’s like I am some kind of PROPHET… All this to say, some people find her hot, interesting, a style icon….and I’ll admit…I liked her in KIDS when she was getting aids… BUT I never bought into her NYC socialite, high school drop out, pretending to be a high brow artist in the New York art scene, and I always saw her as a hack, trying to be that life…a hipster before it was mainstream… and now I saw her panties ing flashed…which is better than seeing her dick… I did buy into her sucking Vincent Gallo’s dick in Brown Bunny and taking his load…you know for the sake of the movie…to breakdown the barrier of porn and mainstream movies…while allowing Gallo to show off his cock…and the fact that all these actors are no different than porn stars…you just have to present it properly… But I do like her tits. This weekend if you want to laugh log on to Netflix to check out Wine Country the directorial debut of Amy Poehler starring Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Emily Spivey, and Jason Schwartzman. The movie is based on a real-life trip to Napa Valley and tells the story of six women who start to question their friendships during a trip to Napa Valley, California, to celebrate the 50th birthday of one of the ladies. This movie has some very funny moments and it’s perfectly paired with a bottle of wine and some paella. I went to Napa Valley to sit down with the cast for this week’s episode of Extra Butter With Xilla Valentine. We talked about some of the funniest scenes and examined why it’s impossible for parents to get a moment of privacy, especially when it comes to using the bathroom. We also chatted about their favorite podcasts, with the ladies sharing some of their favorites. Tiny Fey recommended a podcast called Astonishing Legend which is by Emily Spivey’s husband Scott. Rachel Dratch gave us the breakdown saying, “Its like real very convincing creepy ghost stories.” They also recommended My Favorite Murder by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark. Lastly, the ladies talk about how they love making money with their friends. Maya said, “It is a dream scenario” “To wake up and know you’re going to see these faces in the morning. It’s not just the comfort of the friendship but also these ease of already having a history of working together. What a lucky thing to already know each other’s work language and what works for them personally and professionally.” Amy even suggests that Making Money With Friends could be the name of an album. Overall this is a fun interview for an even more fun movie. Check it out on Netflix May 11th.

Sonic The Hedgehog is a beloved property with a tremendous amount of nostalgia appeal. But when a film based upon that video game series released its trailer this week, it was roasted in every direction. Now, the director is promising to fix it all before the November release date. Will it be enough? The Sonic The Hedgehog movie trailer dropped on Tuesday, April 30. And it was … absolutely bonkers. Jim Carrey plays Dr. Robotnik. James Marsden, who deserves so much better than this, plays a police officer who apparently starts talking with Sonic. At one point, Sonic refers to “your planet,” implying that he is from outer space, which is a hell of a deviation from his '90s origin story. “Gangsta's Paradise,” a song by Coolio that was popular among my much cooler classmates when I was a young child, plays for unfathomable reasons. But more than any of that, people are fixated on Sonic's physical appearance in the film. He is CGI, which means that the world dodged the nightmare bullet of someone trying to play a live-action Sonic, at least. But beyond that, fans were loudly and vocally unhappy. Some were fixated on his human teeth (though, to be clear, hedgehog teeth would be much more upsetting). Others didn't like his leg length, and believed that his humanoid proportions make them feel like he should be wearing pants of some kind. Personally, I thought that his eyes were a little weird, and I created and tweeted this image on Tuesday to offer a joking “correction.” Now, studios are accustomed to a degree of divisiveness when images of familiar media are unveiled. Some people were weirded out by seeing Henry Cavill in a platinum wig for Netflix's The Witcher series, but that show looks like it'll be great. Others were disturbed by seeing such a realistic looking pikachu in the Detective Pikachu trailer, but … literally what did they expect? (I, at least, am a very literal person and I prefer to see things depicted as realistically as possible so long as it still looks good) But the pushback on Sonic's appearance in this trailer elicited a powerful response from the studio. The film's director, Jeff Fowler, saw the backlash and promised that they would take some sort of corrective action. “Thank you for the support,” he tweeted. “And the criticism.” “The message is loud and clear…” Fowler wrote. “You aren't happy with the design & you want changes.” “It's going to happen,” he vowed. “Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be,” he concludes. Translation? An issue with the film that animators have likely been bringing up for months, only to be ignored, has finally reached execs. Now, those same animators are probably having to call off family vacations and hundreds of hours ofsleep over the next few months. They'll be scrambling — as various industries call it, “crunch” — to work long hours to correct a mistake that should have been fixed earlier on. And odds are pretty good that the results won't please everyone, either. Sonic got his start as just a handful of pixels, so cover art and imagination had to do most of the work. Some people skipped imagination and just pictured him with the literal proportions seen on posters. No design is going to meet everyone's expectations, but the hope is that they can tweak his design to be a little less … upsetting. In general, the people who complain the loudest are just a vocal minority, but when it comes to this trailer, they may have a point. However … there's more wrong here than Sonic's design. Some actual feedback on this movie that has nothing to do with nitpicking Sonic's design? It's already kind of doomed. The reason that Detective Pikachu is expected to work is a combination of many factors, but part of that is that the human element makes sense. Humans are an intrinsic part of the world of Pokemon. In the games, you play as a human. On the show, most of the main characters are humans. Sonic media is very different. (And if you want an exhaustive look at Sonic's lore, look no further than Polygon's Unraveled series ) Sonic is a blue speedster hedgehog. His friends include Knuckles (the echidna) and Tails (the fox). (Also, one Sonic game many years ago gave Sonic an eerily humanoid girlfriend and they kisses, but let's not talk about that) Most of the games are basically just Mario-style platforming adventures. There have been successfully told Sonic narratives outside of video games, but none of them have featured him alongside humans. So there was no need for any live action elements of this story, but there's another, very specific, glaring flaw. The actual worst part of the trailer has nothing to do with Sonic's teeth or eyes or how humanoid he is. The real worst part of the trailer was Jim Carrey. I'm not hating on Jim Carrey, but … the most painful part of the trailer is an extended scene of Dr. Robotnik bullying someone in the military. It's weird and it feels like a terrible 1995 comedy movie that no one ever asked for. Also? Sonic just doesn't look right in every scene. Did they not have an adequate stand-in? Because it doesn't look like they did.
Source: Paramount Pictures Sonic fans were up in arms after Paramount Pictures shared the first trailer for its Sonic The Hedgehog movie. The fallout was so bad that the director of the film announced that changes will be made before the films theatrical release. The trailer has managed to rack up over 22 million views but has nearly 500,000 dislikes compared to 291K likes. Twitter collectively lost all of its rings when they got their first glimpse of the CGI blue hedgehog and rightfully so. He looked absolutely a mess thanks to his weird human-like features which included his awkward furry long legs, missing gloves, and his human teeth. One Twitter user went as far as to fix the character, and we can’t front their version looks way better than the studios. Left is original screenshot. Right is my rework to make #Sonic more stylized. pic.twitter.com/IhXeAZYlQI — Edward Pun (@EdwardPun1) April 30, 2019 Well Sonic fans your outrage has been acknowledged, and your screams have been heard, the director for the movie Jeff Fowler announced via his Twitter account that changes are coming to Sonic. “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… # sonicmovie # gottafixfast” Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast — Jeff Fowler (@fowltown) May 2, 2019 Now whether that means the movie will have its wig pushed back is unknown, but so far that doesn’t seem to be the case, and the film is still slated for a November release. As a gamer and a huge fan of the SEGA’s Sonic The Hedgehog I appreciate this. If you’re going to do this movie at least have the most accurate representation of the iconic character as possible. Chances are still high the movie will be a disaster but at least get that part of the film right, the casting of Jim Carey as Dr.Robotnik already seems like a good move on their part. We are hoping that Paramount Pictures and SEGA are taking cues from Edward Pun’s job when it comes to bringing the speedy hedgehog to the screen. — Photo: Paramount Pictures
