The Mysterious Alvin Greene Ends Awkward Video Week With a Bang

How are you enjoying Awkward Video Week at Movieline? No one here could ever have planned such a cringe-y success, and certainly no one anywhere could have imagined it might include such diverse personalities as Salma Hayek , Patrick Stewart , Natalie Portman and Alvin Greene. “Wait,” you say. “Who’s Alvin Greene?” Well, that’s the thing: Nobody effing knows. But Keith Olbermann was determined to find out Thursday night — and that’s when the AVW grand finale got underway.

Chuck Todd Rips ‘Unreliable’ Rasmussen, Doesn’t Mind Liberal Polling Firm Even Kos Rejected

Media bias often shows itself in which organizations journalists choose to cite or ignore. A very prevalent form of this bias is selective reporting on polling data–polls that show results friendly to the liberal position like are touted while those that show the opposite are buried. MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, pictured right, is the latest reporter to demonstrate such a bias. He took Rasmussen Reports to task on Twitter yesterday, claiming it is “has a horrible track record and us [sic] proven to be unreliable” and is really “[n]ot a serious polling firm.” Todd said he would only report on “numbers from a more reliable pollster.” Apparently one such pollster, in the mind of Todd’s cable network at least, is Research 2000. But R2K was recently rated one of the least reliable major polling firms in existence by liberal statistician Nate Silver. R2K was not even accurate enough for the Daily Kos, which officially dropped the firm on Wednesday. Rasmussen, in contrast, was rated relatively highly in Silver’s study, at 15th out of the 63 firms that have conducted 10 or more polls. R2K came in at a paltry 59th. But R2K’s findings have nonetheless been touted on MSNBC in discussing the Nevada Senate race, the very topic on which Todd refused to even consider Rasmussen’s findings. Of course Todd does not speak for all of MSNBC, but where were his protestations when a colleague used poll data significantly less reliable than the unserious, unreliable Rasmussen, with its “horrible track record”? And if Silver’s numbers are not good enough for Todd, consider Rasmussen’s actual performance in the last three election cycles. Rasmussen’s track record is far from “horrible,” as Todd claims. As Greg Pollowitz notes , he’s consistently one of the more accurate pollsters out there. Here are his results from 2008 , 2006 ( Senate and governors ) and 2004 . Consider the races Nevada: in 2008 Rasmussen’s final poll had Obama over McCain, 55–43. The vote went for Obama, 50–46. (Rasmussen can hardly be accused of skewing Republican there). In the 2006 Nevada governor’s race, the final poll had Gibbons over Titus, 48–44. The election result was Gibbons, 48–46. And in the 2004 presidential race, the final poll had Bush over Kerry, 50–48. The vote tally was Bush, 49–47. One of the digs lately against Rasmussen is that his 2008 polls are showing a Republican house effect that wasn’t there in other years. Nate Silver has what I think is a fair look at Rasmussen and this development.  I assume this is what Chuck Todd is referring to when he calls Rasmussen “unreliable.” The bottom line is we won’t know the answer until November, but if Rasmussen’s past performance is any indication, Harry Reid is in deep trouble. And I think Reid knows it.

Olbermann Slams Anti-Helen Thomas Rabbi in ‘Worst Person’ Segment, But Not Helen Thomas

On Wednesday’s Countdown show, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann included Rabbi David Nessenoff – famous for exposing Helen Thomas’s anti-Semitic beliefs in a video of her posted on his Web site – for inclusion in his “Worst Person in the World” segment because Rabbi Nessenoff’s site also includes a video which the MSNBC host viewed as being racist toward Mexicans. Olbermann also misstated the severity of Thomas’s declaration that Israeli Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine,” as many in the pro-Palestinian movement consider all of Israel to be part of “Palestine.” But Olbermann suggested that she was only referring to Israeli Jews who live in settlements in the Palestinian territories: “Runner up, Rabbi David Nessenoff. He is the man who precipitated the end of Helen Thomas’s career, got the video of her saying Israelis in settlements in Palestine should go home to Poland and Germany and the U.S. It was sad. It was narrow minded. I can`t defend it. On the other hand, Rabbi Nessenoff doesn`t exactly have clean hands.” Notably, the Countdown host had passed on featuring Helen Thomas in his “Worst Person” segment for her anti-Semitic remarks, explaining on Monday that he was thinking of “reluctantly” including her in that night’s show but chose not to because she had resigned from her position. Olbermann, on Monday: “But first, with a thank you to Helen Thomas for doing the right thing and bowing out before I had to reluctantly put her out this list, get out your pitchforks and torches, time for tonight`s “Worst Persons in the World.” Also of note, Rabbi Nessenoff is currently posting on his Web site examples of anti-Semitic hate mail – laced with profanity – that the site has received since outing Thomas’s anti-Israel comments. Nessenoff reports, “We received over 25,000 pieces of hate mail.” Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Wednesday, June 10, Countdown show on MSNBC: KEITH OLBERMANN: Runner up, Rabbi David Nessenoff. He is the man who precipitated the end of Helen Thomas’s career, got the video of her saying Israelis in settlements in Palestine should go home to Poland and Germany and the U.S. It was sad. It was narrow minded. I can`t defend it. On the other hand, Rabbi Nessenoff doesn`t exactly have clean hands. On his Web site, he posted a video of himself doing a weather report, delivered in a really bad Hispanic dialect that is flatly racist. This would be the rabbi on the left. RABBI DAVID NESSENOFF, PLAYING A CHARACTER WITH MEXICAN ACCENT: That’s a really nice map. Last time I saw a map like that I was an immigration officer with three Gringos down on the Mexican border. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: God bless America. NESSENOFF: My friend, God blessed America. But he`s sure not looking out for Mexico. I haven`t seen God down there in a long time. OLBERMANN: An opinion writer had to retire from opinion writing because she gave an opinion. Shouldn`t a man of God have to retire from being a man of God when he starts insulting some of God`s children?

McDonald’s Forced to Recall 12 Million Shrek Drinking Glasses

No wonder Shrek is green. McDonald’s is being forced to recall 12 million Shrek Forever After -themed drinking glasses because the painted design — which the AP story hilariously calls “cheap” — contains the toxic metal cadmium. And — wouldn’t you know it — cadmium is a known carcinogen that can cause bone softening and severe kidney problems. Good job, everyone! Do you want fries with that? [ MSNBC ]

MSNBC News Anchor David Shuster Suspended Indefinitely

huffingtonpost High profile news anchor David Shuster has been indefinitely suspended by MSNBC,an American cable news channel, for participating in a test of a new show for competing news channel CNN Suspension for Shuster took effect just days after the New York Observer reported that he was on a pilot show CNN taped recently. “David has been suspended indefinitely,” a network spokesman said Tuesday morning. “..Mr Shuster’s test was unacceptable..be punished appropriately…” Shuster’s contract with MSNBC is reportedly expires this year in December. CNN’s pilot episode featuree Shuster and National Public Radio’s Michael Martin. MSNBC and CNN are competing for airtime ratings having  Fox News well ahead of both, so doing a pilot episode for one while working for the other is a major problem. Shuster has been a correspondent and anchor for MSNBC since 2002, and has covered such major events as Hurricane Katrina and Presidential campaigns. He was also part of MSNBC’s daily anchor rotation. Before MSNBC, he worked at the Fox News Channel from 1996 to 2002 as a Washington, DC based correspondent. Shuster previously ran afoul of MSNBC management when, in 2008, he was suspended for two weeks after making a joke the network found “irresponsible and inappropriate.” He was allowed on air to apologize and then suspended. South Dakota legislators give stupid a bad name.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy See actually these guys are brilliant. They knew that all they had to do was string a bunch of sciency-like words together, that all ended in “logical”, and people would not notice that the resolution they just passed did not make any damn sense. Especially if those “people” had the misfortune of getting their education from the South Dakota school district. Let me guess. The people of South Dakota just LOVE Sarah Palin, don’t they?
