MTV Wants Beyoncé To Open Video Music Awards With Solo Performance Looks like Beyoncé will be without hubby Hov in a very public way before this summer is over… According to Confidenti@l reports: MTV is scrambling behind the scenes to get Beyoncé — without hubby Jay Z — to open this year’s Video Music Awards with a blowout performance at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Aug. 24, Confidenti@l has exclusively learned. Insiders at a Columbia Records listening event were not hiding the fact that MTV is begging Queen Bey to sing a medley of hits from her “Beyoncé” album, which she released on iTunes last year without any alert or promotion. “Bey is going to be all over the show,” one source tells us. “MTV is still working everything out, but they want her to open the show with a big production, which has still not been announced.” Columbia Records and MTV are now working together to convince Bey to create video promos teasing the possible performance. “It’s still being worked out,” says our source. “Everyone at Columbia is scurrying around to make things happen. But judging by the amount of awards she was nominated for and her past history with the show announcing her pregnancy, it’s a pretty safe bet.” Beyoncé leads the VMA nominees with eight bids, including Video of the Year for “Drunk in Love,” her collaboration with husband Jay Z. Rappers Iggy Azalea and Eminem follow her with seven each. At the 2011 VMAs, Bey famously announced she was pregnant with Blue Ivy by popping open her sequined blazer and rubbing her belly for the crowd while Jay Z and Kanye West high-fived each other. “MTV wants her and they want her solo,” says our insider. That news should please Queen Bey, because a solo performance will help her begin to untangle her career from Jay’s. As Confidenti@l exclusively reported, the duo are heading toward releasing a statement addressing the rumors that have been swirling about what will happen with them when the “On the Run” tour wraps in September. The marriage — a strictly “business relationship,” says a source close to the couple — has been over for a while. Both Jay and Bey have been faking it for their fans, and for the $84 million they expect to collect from the current tour. In other developments, Beyoncé’s estranged father, Matthew Knowles, plans to share his tricks on how he made his daughter famous with Destiny’s Child. He will teach a day-long bootcamp class called The Entertainment Industry: How Do I Get In? at Houston Community College Central. The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards proved to be a great night for Perry, who closed out the show with a knockout performance of her new hit ” Roar .” That was before getting a Twitter shout-out from the President! Barack Obama, Katy Perry Tweets It began when Perry, an Obama supporter, re-tweeted his message to get affordable healthcare starting October 1, and he was very appreciative. “Thanks for spreading the word. #ROAR,” Obama responded. Katy said, “Happy to do my part, PREZ!” Later, she added: “YO what a day! #ROAR-ing @ the #VMAs, Tweeting w/POTUS, & now happy to announce U chose #DARKHORSE FT @therealjuicyj to come out Sept 17th!” That would be her fan-chosen next single, FYI. Perry supported Obama’s 2012 reelection effort, performing at a fundraiser for the president along with Bon Jovi, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder and others. The Cyrus performance – both her own version of “We Can’t Stop” and her raunchy duet with Robin Thicke on “Blurred Lines” – is making waves across the World Wide Web. But for the right reasons? Kelly Clarkson may have been joking around in her critique of the MTV Video Music Awards as including too many pitchy strippers , but The Parents Television Council does not see this as a laughing matter. In a scathing rebuke of the network and the event, the PTC released a statement today that focused on a rating that somehow claimed the show was appropriate for kids as young as 14. “MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials – while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable,” wrote PTC Director of Public Policy Dan Isett. “This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children.” As you might expect, the main subjects of the PTC’s outage were Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga . Continued the press release: “MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘ twerking ’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds? How is it appropriate for children to watch Lady Gaga strip down to a bikini in the opening act? How is it appropriate for 14-year-olds to see a condom commercial and a promo for an R-rated movie during the first commercial break?” The statement goes on to say MTV should not get away with such acts merely because it is a cable network – and it includes a call to action. “We urge Congress to pass the Television Consumer Freedom Act which will give parents and consumers a real solution for future MTV VMA programs – the ability to choose and pay for cable networks that they want vs. having to pay for networks they don’t want. After MTV’s display last night, it’s time to give control back to consumers.” The PTC has previously come down on MTV for such programs as Jersey Shore, 16 and Pregnant, and Teen Mom.
They may have have won Best Song of the Summer at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the celebration was short-lived for One Direction last night. The British boy band was actually booed on stage. But at least the insulting reception from the crowd in Brooklyn resulted in a cool backstage meeting for Harry Style (who was himself told to STFU up by Taylor Swift ) and company, as Lady Gaga actually made a point to seek them out and offer her support. “I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have,” Gaga tells One Direction in the following video. That Taylor Swift, she’s good people. Following a concert with Ed Sheeran and Austin Mahone last Friday, the singer and her tour mates stopped for a meal at Ralph’s Italian Restaurant in Philadelphia. Turns out, the head chef of that establishment is a man named Shawn Gallo and he’s a HUGE Taylor Swift fan. “My son has autism, and while I’m at work my mom and my son love to listen to her music,” Gallo told E! News. “He loves her music!” Upon learning this story, Swift shocked Gallo by giving him two tickets to the following evening’s show – and then she left him a $500 tip! “It was so kind-hearted of her,” the chef said after the experience. “My son Shawnee is 11. It was my son and I’s first concert we’ve ever been to! It was really special.” So much for Taylor Swift being Satan , huh?
