The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards have come and gone, with Rihanna kissing Chris Brown ; Taylor Swift stage diving ; and One Direction taking home a trio of trophies. How did those in attendance react to the event? Miley Cyrus did her best impression of Pink on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards last night, showing up at the event with her short blonde hair spiked and in a mohawk. It was a jarring new look for the star, especially considering Pink was also in attendance – and also rocking a very similar style. Did Miley outdo the original? Mendel pantsuit and classic red lips at the annual MTV gala. Meanwhile, Alicia Keys rocked a one-shoulder, draped silver gown and asymmetrical ‘do to boot before her collaboration with Nicki Minaj (and Gabby Douglas ). VMA Fashion Face-Off: Katy Perry vs. Rihanna

Rihanna and Katy Perry were both on the list of MTV VMA winners . The BFFs were clearly among the night’s fashion winners, as well. Rihanna’s stunning white gown and newly-shortened hair were the talk of the show, even before she was seen kissing Chris Brown inside Staples Center. Often known for outrageous getups, she looked tremendous, an angel of the night in a floor length white dress which still showed some skin, RiRi style. Katy Perry, meanwhile, went for a subtly provocative look. Her floor length Elie Saab gown featured a plunging neckline and sheer train. Just smoking. Who wins this VMA Fashion Face-Off? It’s official: Taylor Swift is funnier, cooler and a much better actress than Kim Kardashian . The wildly popular singer anchors a new commercial for the MTV Video Music Awards, appearing opposite host Kevin Hart and poking fun at the fact that she writes so many songs about ex-boyfriends. It’s pretty funny and Swift is pretty terrific in it, which is a stark contrast to the wooden Kardashian and the lack of humor in her VMA ad from a couple weeks ago. Check it out now:

MTV Video Music Awards 2012: Nominations Revealed!

Trend-setting collaborators Rihanna and Drake lead the star-studded list of nominees for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, released this morning. Following a year when both singers pushed boundaries by mixing in even more dance and R&B flavor, the pair lead all nominees with five apiece. Rihanna, in fact, has two chances to take home the top Video of the Year prize for her solo hit “We Found Love” and her duet with Drake, “Take Care.” Chris Brown , a name often linked to both Rihanna and Drake for different reasons, also scored a pair of nominations at the annual extravaganza. Frank Ocean, who came out as bisexual earlier this summer, is up for two awards. 2011’s biggest winner, Katy Perry, is second with four nominations. This year’s show will air live on September 6 at 8 p.m. EST from the Staples Center in Los Angeles and feature a host of big-name performances. Lady Gaga certainly did not leave anything in the bag in her bid to become Jo Calderone at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday. The pop star didn’t just wear men’s clothing and fake stubble. Lady Gaga took dressing in drag to the extreme, wearing a prosthetic penis, even. Seriously, she was . Talk about getting into character. Perhaps that was the impetus behind the revelation that Gaga/Jo used to pleasure himself to Britney Spears when he was a kid. He/she didn’t say. “I am from New Jersey,” Jo Calderone said. “My family is from Palermo, Sicily. I’m not a singer or a model or an actor or anything. Little Monsters already know Jo Calderone is Lady Gaga’s later ego. What they didn’t know before last night’s Video Music Awards is that the two were an item! “My name is Jo Calderone,” the 25-year-old said, showing up in drag as part of her wild, extended pre-performance monologue. “Lady Gaga? She left me!” Fully committed to the character for several minutes, smoking a cigarette as he/she addressing the crowd, “Jo” grew more and more animated … Lady Gaga VMA Performance 2011 “[ Lady Gaga ] is f**king crazy!” he/she said. “For example, she gets out of the bed, puts on the heels. She comes out of the bathroom dripping wet and she’s still got the heels on … And what’s with the hair? “At first it was sexy, but now I’m just confused. I think it’s really f**king great that she’s such a star and all … but how am I supposed to shine?” There you go. Finally, Lady Gaga sat down and belted out a soulful rendition of “You and I.” Brian May from Queen came on stage and joined her. What did you think of her performance? Was it great to see Jo Calderone in person like that, or did the gag get old? Certainly original, right?
