White South Carolina Couple Arrested For Killing Black Grandmother And 9-Year-Old Granddaughter

Was The South Carolina Murder Of A 9-Year-Old And Her Grandmother Racially Motivated The same state that brought us Dylann Roof is also home to allegedly murderous married couple Cephas and Kathrine Cowick, who have been arrested for the double homicide of a 9-year-old black girl and her 52 year old grandmother. According to WBTW reports : Cephas Cowick, 23, and Kathrine Baucom Cowick, 25, have been charged with murder and are in police custody. Sheriff Byrd confirmed that the two suspects were husband and wife. Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee found two people dead after responding to a call Sunday morning. Sheriff Wayne Byrd says the call came in around 11:54 Sunday morning for two dead people at a home off Highway 151 near the Darlington Dragway. One of the victims is a nine-year-old and the other is the child’s grandmother. Hardee identified the victims Monday morning as Deziyah Davis, 9, and her grandmother Denise Couplin, 52 of Darlington. Coroner Hardee has ruled the incident a double homicide. This is so sad. We haven’t seen anything mentioned about this incident being racially motivated but we can’t help but to wonder if it was. There have been several updates to this story since the Cowick’s arrest. Third degree arson, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, first degree burglary, grand larceny less than $10,000 and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. It turns out they allegedly robbed Couplin’s home during the incident. Both suspects are being held at the Darlington County Detention Center without bond. Their court date has been set for Sept. 28. There were two other children home at the time of the murders who managed to escape to a neighbor’s home. Those kids have been taking into custody of the Department of Social Services while family members work to regain custody. A joint funeral was held for Davis and Couplin on Sunday July, 24 at 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hartsville, according to family members. Facebook/Darlington County Detention Center

How The Tables Turn: New Poll Finds That Most Black People Now Think O.J. Simpson Was Guilty

Most Black People Think OJ Is Guilty As everyone who was old enough to recall 1995 (and all those who caught The People Vs. O.J. Simpson ) know, back in the 90’s you couldn’t even TRY to convince the average Black American that The Juice was guilty of chopping up his ex-wife and her suspected lover. But now, a new study shows that that outlook has changed, and most Black people pretty much concede that OJ is as guilty as sin. The filmmaker responsible for O.J.’s upcoming 30 For 30 special breaks it down, via FiveThirtyEight : A striking poll finding was cited often in coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder trial in 1994 and 1995: Most white people thought the former football star was guilty of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, while roughly the same proportion of black people thought Simpson was innocent. The racial gap in public opinion was one of many elements of the case — along with a long history of conflict between the Los Angeles Police Department and the city’s black residents, and racist statements made by LAPD Detective Mark Fuhrman — that showed race was as important as glove size and forensic evidence. In the two decades since Simpson was acquitted by a majority-black jury, the racial gap has narrowed significantly. In two recent polls, more than 50 percent of black respondents said they thought Simpson was guilty — up from about 20 percent in most polls before, during and right after the trial. The more recent polls were conducted in 2014 and 2015, before the case returned to the public eye this year thanks to two high-profile television series: FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and ESPN Films’ “O.J.: Made in America.” (ESPN owns FiveThirtyEight.) Both series leave the impression that Simpson killed Brown Simpson and Goldman; he has said he is innocent. Why the shift? Developments in the murder trial and events in Simpson’s life probably have played a role. Changes in demographics and race relations may also have contributed to shifting black opinion about the case. Here’s a chart to illustrate the point a bit: Interesting! Honestly, with all the new evidence that came forward after the circus that was his criminal trial, his RIDICULOUS book idea, and of course the increase in information available about the events leading up to and following Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman’s murders…it’s only natural that nowadays Black people see things quite a bit differently than they did in that climate. Do YOU still think OJ was innocent? Splash

Race Matters: Alabama Police Officer Who Shot And Killed An Unarmed Black Man Charged With Murder

Alabama Cop Who Shot And Killed Black Man Charged With Murder 23-year-old Alabama cop, Aaron Cody Smith, who shot and killed an unarmed black man has been charged with murder, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation according to ABC News : On Wednesday, District Attorney Daryl Bailey told Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange that the SBI believed it had established probable cause to arrest Montgomery Police Officer Aaron C. Smith in the shooting death of Gregory Gunn, Strange said in a statement. “We believe it is essential for our community and for justice that the light of truth is brought in this case, as in every case,” Strange said. On Feb. 25, Smith shot and killed 58-year-old Gunn in front of a neighbor’s house as he was walking home, the Associated Press reported. On Monday, Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley said Smith had deemed Gunn was acting “suspiciously,” but did not say what Smith found suspicious about him. Authorities initially said Gunn had a stick or cane and that the two became involved in a physical altercation before Smith shot him, the AP reported. DA Bailey said in a statement he would “do everything” in his power to protect a police officer who is acting within the law, but would also “use every ounce of” his power to prosecute a police officer who has acted outside of the law. Smith has been released from the Montgomery County jail, McDermott said. He is currently in hiding because he and his family have been receiving death threats following Gunn’s death, McDermott said. Smith’s bail had been set for $150,000, the AP reported. It was posted by several different jurisdictions supporting him, McDermott said. #BlackLivesMatter

Taye Diggs Appears on Kocktails with Khloe for Some Reason

According to contrasting recent reports, Kocktails with Khloe has either been renewed for another run of episodes … … or it’s about to be canceled . But while the long-term future of this FYI program is apparently up in the air, there is no debate over its short-term prospects. Taye Diggs, David Arquette, Kat DeLuna and Katie O’Brien will appear this week as guests on Kocktails with Khloe. Yes, Taye Diggs. Unlike past panelists – such as Tyga and Scott Disick (and everyone else listed above) – who has little else to do in life, it’s unclear why Diggs agreed to take part in the show. He’s one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, having come off roles in The Good Wife, Rosewood and Murder in the First in the last year-plus alone. Why has he sunken to a low in which he’s Twerking alongside someone named Kat DeLuna in order to shake up their martinis? We may never know… Taye Diggs and Kat DeLuna Make Twerktinis Along with being silly, Diggs actually gets pretty deep in a separate conversation with the group. Watch him compare ethnicity to identity in the following clip and how each relates to his biracial son: Taye Diggs Talks Ethnicity and Identity Don’t get us wrong: we love to stare at Taye Diggs. But we’re just wondering why his shirt is on in these sneak peeks and what dirt the Kardashians must have on him to get him to be a guest.
