Eddie Murphy Will NOT Host The Academy Awards

Read the original:

The news about Eddie Murphy hosting the Academy Awards was well-received, but he will no longer be the master of ceremonies of the 2012 Oscars. Murphy made his unfortunate resignation after Brett Ratner, the producer of the annual event, stepped down in disgrace yesterday (November 8th). Since Ratner hired Murphy to host the Academy Awards, some expected Murphy to follow suit. Ratner used a disparaging homosexual slur recently, and resigned from his post after many expressed offense and outrage at his word choice. He also offended many by discussing sex with media outlets while promoting his new film Tower Heist . Find out the rest of the story right here . Drew Barrymore, Eddie Murphy Top Forbes Overpaid Actors List

Will Ferrell came it at #3 on tally of Hollywood stars who aren’t worth the salaries they bank. By Jocelyn Vena Eddie Murphy Photo: Getty Images On the same weekend that Eddie Murphy opens his comeback flick “Tower Heist” comes the news that he joins rom-com queen Drew Barrymore atop a list of Hollywood’s most overpaid actors in the business. Forbes makes the case that these two movie stars aren’t worth the bank they are making. The site used an involved equation to figure out which celebrities would make the list. Celebrities qualified for it based on a set of criteria. One: They had to earn a large salary. Two: They had to have at least three films released in at least 500 theaters in the past five years. (Animated flicks and films released after May 1, 2011, didn’t count.) But wait, it didn’t stop there. Using their Celebrity 100 list, Forbes calculated each star’s earnings and then looked at film budgets and returns to figure out the income for the movies. All caught up on that? OK, so here’s how it shook out. Barrymore lands at #1 on the list. Her recent box-office failures “Everybody’s Fine” and “Lucky You” only racked up $24 million combined. While her ensemble film “He’s Just Not That Into You” netted $180 million globally, the publication didn’t count it towards her profit margins since she wasn’t the sole marquee name in the flick. Barrymore returns 40 cents for every $1 she makes. Despite the success of “Shrek,” which falls in the animated category, Murphy landed right behind Barrymore thanks to films that billed him as the headlining name. “Imagine That” and “Meet Dave” earned $72 million combined and cost a combined $115 million to make. So what does that mean? It means that Murphy returned $2.70 for every $1 he was paid. Coming in at #3 is Will Ferrell, who had topped the list for the past two years. Reese Witherspoon is #4 on the list and Denzel Washington finds himself at #5. For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Congratulations: Eddie Murphy Close To Landing A New Gig As Host Of The 84th Academy Awards!!

If anyone in showbiz is both qualified and deserving, it’s Eddie Murphy. This Tuesday, a confab is scheduled for Oscar producer Brett Ratner to tell the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences whom he wants to host the Oscars. I’ve learned that Ratner will offer one name to Academy President Tom Sherak: Eddie Murphy. This is by no means a done deal yet, but this is a first step – though a lot more steps have to happen before this becomes a reality. I’m told that a lot of big names have approached the other 84th Academy Awards producer Don Mischer saying they are interested in hosting, and Don is fielding those calls. But insiders tell me that Ratner since getting the Academy Awards producing gig has only been talking to one person: Eddie. It’s been along the lines of, “If the Academy asked you to host, would you accept?” I learned that Eddie is “showing interest”. I do know that Murphy’s Hollywood agency WME thinks it’d be a real coup for Murphy’s dormant career which is about to get a kick-start. That’s because the veteran comedian is starring in the Brett Ratner-directed and Imagine/Universal-produced Tower Heist action laugher with Ben Stiller that opens on November 4th and is receiving great buzz. So Murphy and Ratner already have a close relationship, and this would be a way for Brett to put his personal stamp on 2012′s broadcast. Plus Murphy is starring in the DreamWorks dramedy film A Thousand Words scheduled for release on January 12th. We hope that Eddie gets this prestigious job. He would definitely bring some much needed funny to an otherwise boring show. Hate it or love it?!?! Source

Which Departing Glee Star Will Have the Best Film Career?

For those of you who follow the television news beat, Glee creator Ryan Murphy telling The Hollywood Reporter that Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith would not return to the Emmy-nominated Fox comedy (“comedy”) following the upcoming third season shouldn’t have been that surprising. After all, Murphy has been saying for months that the McKinley High School seniors would graduate at the close of season three. What that means for the future of Glee is certainly up for debate — one that Movieline sister site TVL ine will keep you abreast on; what that means for the three biggest Glee stars, however, is firmly in Movieline territory. Where do they go from here? Let’s discuss!

Ryan Murphy Makes Up with Kings of Leon

Elton John recently referred to Kings of Leon as “assholes” and told them to ” chill out ” over their refusal to allow Glee to cover their single “Use Somebody” on an episode. But series creator Ryan Murphy no longer has such harsh words for the band. A few months after the producer and drummer Nathan Followill got really personal (the latter made a few digs at Murphy’s sexuality), Murphy has released the following statement: I support artists and what they choose to do… I think Kings of Leon are cool as shit. The Foo Fighters are brilliant. We’d love to do one [of] their songs, if they were ever interested. But if it’s not their thing, then OK. I personally wish them luck, will still listen to their music. I’m really proud of the fact that we can introduce songs to younger kids or their parents because I’m the biggest music fan. The show is about the love of performing and arts education – things I think are very special. Case closed, we guess. Glee returns with a new episode on April 19.

Cher Voices Frustration Over ‘Burlesque’ Oscar Song Snub

‘We didn’t get a nomination 4 best song! That sucks!’ the icon tweeted about ‘ You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.’ By James Dinh Cher Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images After the Academy Award nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, “Burlesque” star Cher made it clear she wasn’t going to be celebrating with the nominees. The icon wasn’t pleased with the lack of recognition for her Diane Warren-penned tune “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” from the flashy musical, and she took to Twitter to express her frustration. While it was overlooked by the Academy, the “Burlesque” song recently scored a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. “We didn’t get a nomination 4 best song ! That sucks ! Diane’s song Is so beautiful !” Cher wrote . “It’s hard to understand how u win. Then she referred to her Globes win: “The Golden Globe 4 BEST SONG & not even get nominated by the OSCARS? Oh well it is..what it is ,,,,the sun is still shining !” Baffled by the snub, Cher even contemplated whether it was her role as the song’s performer that impacted its Oscar odds, writing, “maybe she would have had a better chance if someone else was singing it ?!! IT JUST CANT B HER SONG I” The Golden Globe awards are typically seen as a good forecast for the Oscars, but the awards aren’t a guarantee of Oscar love. A handful of stars from Oscar-nominated movies weren’t recognized by the Academy , including Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), Andrew Garfield (“The Social Network”) and Julianne Moore (“The Kids Are All Right”). Do you think Cher’s “Burlesque” tune was deserved an Oscar nomination? Tell us in the comments!
