Who Won Halloween 2K18: The Good, The Bad & Wackest Celebrity Costumes

Source: M_a_y_a / Getty Low key, Halloween is way more fun as an adult than as a kid. One of the best parts about Halloween as a grown up is the lit parties and unbelievably creative costumes. Seeing famous people dress up as other famous people is pretty dope too. For example, Beyonce rarely changes up her look — specifically when it comes to hair and makeup. But for Halloween, the Queen always shows up and shows out.   Bey stepped on necks this year as Toni Braxton . The Queen remade Toni’s “Another Sad Love Song” cover and renamed herself “Phoni Braxton”.   Bey always gets it right, and proves she’s not as far removed from the culture as folks think. Toni Braxton isn’t the only legend Bey paid homage to in her post. One fan tweeted , “Do y’all know why Beyoncé’s Halloween costume is near & dear to my heart? Because she channeled Martin with the “Phoni Braxton”. Phoni Braxton. Martin’s impact. Beyoncé’s mind! pic.twitter.com/3rC7TfZTpm — Brianna (@BriannaSymone_) October 30, 2018 Bey may be the Queen of costumes this year so far — but folks are saying Today Show host Craig Melvin may have won Halloween. Just drove in from Queens! @TODAYshow #halloween pic.twitter.com/A0ggxbunzd — Craig Melvin (@craigmelvin) October 31, 2018 The Today Show host killed it with his ode to Prince Akeem from Coming To America . . @craigmelvin is… Prince Akeem from “Coming to America”! #HalloweenTODAY pic.twitter.com/VCqB5YxTAB — TODAY (@TODAYshow) October 31, 2018 For every dope costume, there are random folks in the world who take things too far. LeBron James Set To Produce ‘Friday The 13th’ Reboot

Source: Steve Dykes / Getty It might be a horror show going on in the Staples Center right because the LeBron led Lakers are off to a horrible start. But Hollywood Bron is still working and looking to help resurrect the iconic horror film franchise Friday The 13th . The hockey mask wearing homicidal maniac Jason hasn’t been able to deliver vicious fades since the underrated 2009 Friday The 13th reboot. There have been talks of various sequels and reboots, but all have been hampered thanks to delays, creative conflicts and a lawsuit from the franchise’s creator Victor Miller. But thanks to the success of the Jamie Lee Curtis led Halloween revival and Michael Myers slashing his way to $77.8 million domestic opening new life has been given to Jason Voorhees. According to Page Six , insiders hint that LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment alongside Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment is currently in talks to acquire the rights to make a new movie happen and all signs are pointing to it coming to fruition. Miller has since won back the rights to the franchise, and with the two production companies and their first look deals with Warner Bros., they are expected to land the movie. The movie is still in early development, and no writers or a director has been attached to the project yet. Tracy Chapman Sues Nicki Minaj For Unauthorized Sample

Source: Stephanie Methven / WENN Tracy Chapman wasn’t that hard to find after all. The “Fast Car” singer is suing Nicki Minaj for using an unauthorized sample. Reportedly, Minaj’s people did reach out to Chapman for permission to use her song “Baby Can I Hold You” for the Queens rapper’s tune “Sorry,” featuring Nas. However, Chapman basically said, “Nah.” TMZ reports that Minaj’s reps reached out in June 2018 with multiple requests to license “Baby Can I Hold You,” which were all denied. In early August, Minaj even pinned her new album’s delay on trying to find Chapman. But then Nicki Minaj’s “Sorry,” which got nixed from the Queen album, made its way onto the radio, with Funkmaster Flex playing it on Hot 97 and The Breakfast Club also giving it a spin on Power 105. The song’s radio play, which led to the Internets grabbing the tune and reposting it online, is referenced in Chapman’s lawsuit, which seeks an order prohibiting Minaj from ever releasing the song as well as financial compensation. Looks and sounds like Chapman has Minaj dead to rights on this one. — Photo: WENN.com

Reality Check: Black Soccer Dad Could Have Been Arrested Or Worse For Doing Nothing Wrong

N ow that the dust has settled, a Black soccer dad reflected on how his encounter on Sunday with deputies could have ended badly for him. See Also: Please Stop Giving Racist White Women Adorable Nicknames   “Anything could have escalated — me going to jail, my kid seeing me like that,” Gerald Jones told ABC News affiliate WJXX-TV on Wednesday. A white woman dubbed “golfcart Gail” on social media confronted Jones at a youth soccer match in Ponte Vedra, Florida after the dad yelled instructions to his 13-year-old son who was playing. Jones explained to her that he wasn’t screaming at the referee. But she felt intimidated and called the cops. A witness, Ginger Williams , who is white, recorded the police encounter and posted it to Facebook under the headline, “Soccer while black.” She didn’t know the father before the incident but felt that she couldn’t remain silent given the wave of similar incidents. A racist woman dubbed “golf cart Gail” called the police on a black man because he was being a father to his son and cheering him on at a soccer game. pic.twitter.com/gCQMnHNh7r — Ricky Davila (@TheRickyDavila) October 18, 2018 Jones believes he was a victim of racial profiling because the field official had previously thrown out a white soccer dad who questioned a referee, but she declined to call the cops on him. Tears rolled down Jones’ face as he recalled having a conversation with his son about the incident. “I’m working hard every day. Do everything right. Love everybody. And my son, he’s like, ‘Hey, I just don’t understand it.’ I don’t understand it. Something has to be done. What can be done? I don’t know, but it’s just too much,” Jones said. Jones believes golfcart Gail owes him an apology. However, Gail’s boss defended her actions, adding that the incident was “sensationalized.” SEE ALSO: Kierra Coles’ Mother Addresses Rumors That Boyfriend Is Involved In Her Disappearance Real Life Uncle Ruckus! Black Poetry Day: 5 Dope Poets You Should Follow On Instagram — ASAP

Source: Marla Aufmuth / Getty It’s Black Poetry Day, and today we honor those ingenious men and women who have been brave enough to bare their souls through literature and share it with the world. Why commemorate on October 17th ? According to sources, Jupiter Hammon, the first published black poet in the United States, was born in Long Island, New York, on October 17, 1711. In honor of Hammon’s birth, we celebrate the contributions of all African Americans to the world of poetry. Although he was a slave, Hammon was purportedly allowed access to the manor library and was educated with the estate owner’s children, even working with Henry Lloyd in his business ventures. But he was far from being the only former slave to have a notable writing career. Phyllis Wheatley was also an African slave — however, as her works spread throughout town, she became the abolitionists’ illustrative testimony that blacks could be both artistic and intellectual. Her name was a household word among literate colonists and her achievements a catalyst for the fledgling antislavery movement.     Poetry has certainly transformed over the years, especially with the rise of social media and the impact Hip Hop now has on the mainstream. Most people don’t realize that Hip Hop is a form of poetry with a sick beat behind it.  Just ask rap’s go-to poet, Wale . The DC native once said of poetry: “The ability to make somebody feel something: that’s art. However you look at it, whether you’re an author, a painter, a singer, a rapper, a spoken-word artist – art. I feel like I’m one of the more creative artists in the game. I think I’m going to be here for a while.” In honor of Black Poetry Day, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite young stars who’ve changed the poetry game for us millennials. Everyone love a generic quote, but these writers always push their pens to give us more — and keep us wanted more. Hit the flip for 5 young, Black poets we all should be following on Instagram.

LMAO: Flaky Weather Has NY’ers Hella Confused & More Irritable Than Usual

Source: Splash News What’s going on with the weather, NYC? Welcoming fall is supposed to be a joyous occasion , a gradual introduction to crisp winds and the occasional dip in temperatures—but last week it was 80 degrees and now it’s brick azz. We need answers. New Yorkers have been left feeling—and looking —hella confused, as we try to find the middle ground between staying warm and not looking like straight up winter. These months before the holiday season  are supposed to be our time to break out our flyest sweatsuits, constructs, Nike Techs…wash and sets that actually last. But like your boy Lenny Kravitz in the photo up top, we really don’t know what season we’re in. Do we put away all of our summer clothes  even though temperatures could shoot up again? Do we take out our winter coats? Is it okay to wear a scarf yet? Or, do we just accept that we might catch a little ‘monia in the days to come? And someone tell us, what’s the consensus on Uggs? Trump, bless his heart, seems to think even though “something” is wrong, it’ll reverse itself. He told 60 Minutes this week, “Something’s changing and it’ll change back again.” Um…WHAT?! While 45 is acting like he couldn’t care less, NYers are super annoyed. This guy, primed for hoodie weather, expressed the disappointment we’ve all been feeling deep down inside: Bruh nyc weather skipped Nike tech weather and went straight to Christmas -_- — (@Detresss) October 13, 2018 While lacking melanin or any sign of Black folks existing in NY, this meme really sums things up neatly: NYC weather is no joke ….. pic.twitter.com/VMJHJw90Go — Shaa. (@QueenShaShaa_) October 17, 2018 Even Ryan Seacrest is fed up. Six days ago he took to the innanets to say what every NY’er has literally been saying all day for the past few weeks: Hot & humid this morning… rain this afternoon… cool temps tomorrow a.m. NYC weather is all 4 seasons in the span of 24 hours. — Ryan Seacrest (@RyanSeacrest) October 11, 2018 It’s a lot…especially because we have other things to do that don’t include thinking about what to wear all day—like, figuring out which bae is our best cuddle option for Cuffing Season ’18. As for the rest of this week, it looks like temperature highs will be between 51 and 64 degrees with lows between 39 and 54 degrees. Whatever that means. But the good news is…we probably won’t have to deal with any rain. Hit the flip for more hilarious tweets about NYC weather. Hopefully, it’ll just go ahead and even itself on out like Trump suggested it would…but realistically, we don’t see him being right about anything anytime soon. That, we can predict.
