Source: Joe Kohen / Getty Grammy Award-nominated singer Mario is making a comeback and with his new single “Drowning,” it seems like relationship woes are on his mind. The track is apart of Mario’s upcoming studio album Dancing Shadows , which will be his first full-length project since 2009’s D.N.A. On “Drowning,” Mario croons between tenor and falsetto as he laments his relationship with a lover — a relationship he can’t seem to get enough of, but unfortunately has him drowning. “This experience was an intense one for me,” Mario told Billboard . “And sonically, the bittersweet chord progressions match the emotion of the story I’m telling.” Peep the visuals for the track below and be sure to watch out for Dancing Shadows when it’s released in the fall!
Source: Gilbert Carrasquillo / Getty Either Lauryn Hill fans still have hope in her or they subconsciously love disappointment. Ms. Hill recently took her messiness to Canada and left many in dismay. According to a report by Exclaim everything that could have gone wrong on L-Boogie’s most recent stop of her The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary Tour happened. For starters the New Jersey native showed up over an hour late to the Budweiser Stage, but things got progressively worse when she finally started her set. Fans were further angered when Ms. Hill spent much of her time criticizing her inept band and audio crew. But when it came to her actual performance ticket buyers claimed that she did not perform her classic debut in its entirety and rushed through the tracks she did do. To close the show, L did a rendition of Drake’s “Nice For What” which samples “Ex-Factor” which felt flat with the crowd. Many in attendance would also to complain that the songs were barely recognizable compared to her 1998 album. The confusion further fueled the speculation that she does not own the original compositions forcing her to perform them differently. Regardless of her legal restrictions her fans who where at the show let her have it on social media. So disappointed in the Lauryn Hill concert tonight. Made fans wait over an hour and then performed for 45 mins max. Could barely recognize the songs she attempted to sing. Cash grab for sure. Don’t waste your money on her! — Jennifer Azevedo (@WWJenn) July 19, 2018 So, Ms. Hill hit the stage 2 hours late and then did a 45-minute set. Like, what did I expect from a Lauryn Hill concert in our Lord's year 2018? — Rebecca Gao (@rebeccaga0) July 19, 2018 Damn Toronto is roasting Lauryn Hill for only performing a 40 min set and she once again ran through them songs lol — Tasha (@LGraHolla) July 19, 2018 Lauryn hill was a big let down last night. From her unrecognizable songs, constant critisim of her band, shortest performance of the show, and throwing off all of Toronto with that terrible nice for what remix. She still the queen though. — Jax B (@APPLEJ4X) July 19, 2018 This is not the first time Lauryn has been accused of disappointing fans at shows. In 2017 she arrived three hours late in Pittsburgh and two hours late in Atlanta, which resulted in her getting booed. Source: Getty Last month, Kid Cudi and Kanye West finally released their highly anticipated collaboration album, Kids See Ghosts. Many people were struck with feelings of wanting more, since the seven-track project spanned just under 30 minutes–but if the project left you yearning for music, you’re in luck. The longtime friends and collaborators may have even more in store for fans. In his recent cover story with Billboard ( published on Thursday, July 19), Cudi detailed his plans to create more albums in the same vein as his most recent effort with Kanye. “There are some songs that we didn’t use that I’m hopeful we can put out later. But the plan is to do more Kids See Ghosts albums,” Cudder revealed. He also speaks on the fact that he thinks him and West will always produce “awesome sh*t” together. “We just have this chemistry that’s undeniable, especially when we have to fight for it with each other,” he continued, adding that Kids See Ghosts took “a little over a year-and-a-half to just get it tight,” though the songwriting itself wasn’t difficult. “It’s really easy for us,” he added. Also in the candid interview, Kid Cudi dishes on his time he spent in Wyoming creating the album, particularly commenting on his moments with Nas who also delivered a seven-track project this summer. “It was really cool to be around Nas. That was the illest. We’d be chilling in the room, and then Nas would leave and we’d be like, ‘That’s fucking Nas.’ We’d be asking him questions about coming up in Queens, did he know Biggie , all these questions,” Cudi said excitedly. He continued, “I had a ball out there, man. Kanye had his family around. He had his dad there. And we knew what songs we wanted to use. We had ‘Reborn.’ We had ‘4th Dimension.’ We just took our time fine-tuning the process.” You can read Kid Cudi’s entire interview and cover story with Billboard here . Hopefully, more details regarding Cudi and Ye’s future music surfaces sooner than later.
Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN Chance The Rapper had fans on the edge of the seats after promising a new full-length album this week, although he eventually decided not to come out with the project . Instead, the Chicago rapper dialed down his initial aims and unleashed four new tracks for the masses. The tracks, “Work Out, “65th & Ingleside,” “I Might Need Security,” and “Wala Cam” featuring Supa Bwe. The songs cover much of Chano’s usual fare, which includes speaking on his engagement to his daughter’s mother, Kirsten Corley, his ties to the Chicago streets, and his generally positive views on life as it happens. Details on who provided production for the tracks are scant, but per Genius “65th & Ingleside features production from Greg Landfair, Peter Cottontale, Nate Fox, Lido, and Chance himself. Savvy fans will recognize Landfair’s name from the defunct Chicago band Kids These Days that Vic Mensa was also once a part of. On “I Might Need Security,” Jamie Foxx, Cottontale, Chance, and Smoko Ono are credited for the production. Lastly on “Wala Cam,” Landfair, Carter Lang, and Lido provided the heat. Lang has worked on SZA’s acclaimed CTRL project among other works. Fox has worked with Chance over the years and, along with Cottontale, is a member of The Social Experiment. In other big news, Chance announced his purchase of the Chicagoist website, which examines all things Chicago, in a verse on “I Might Need Security” by rapping, “I got a hit-list so long I don’t know how to finish/I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist b*tches out of business/Speaking of racist, f*ck your micro aggressions/I’ll make you fix your words like a typo suggestion.” Check out the new tracks below. — Photo: WENN
Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN Although the Migos are among the top-earning rap groups in the game now, it looks like two members from the crew have kept some poor books over the years. Both Quavo and Takeoff were slapped with tax liens and combined the pair owe over $28,000. The Blast reports : On June 27, Quavo (real name: Quavious Marshall) was hit with a lien by Georgia state over unpaid 2016 taxes. The original amount owed was only $9k but has grown with interest/penalties to $14,055.06 That same day — yes, the actual same day —the Georgia Department of Revenue filed a separate lien against Takeoff (real name: Kirsnick Ball) for unpaid 2016 taxes totaling $14,348.23. The Migos have strong ties to the Peach State. The guys, who are all related, grew up together in Lawrenceville, GA and eventually formed the superstar hip-hop trio. Together, Quavo and Takeoff owe a total of $28,403.29, which shouldn’t be too hard for them to scrape together since, according to Forbes, the group pulls in $150k per tour stop. The gentlemen have yet to address the matter publicly but as the outlet noted, that should be light work for them to handle. — Photo: WENN
Source: WENNCHELLA/WENN.com / WENN Azealia Banks has the talent necessary to break out big in the music world, but she’s become infamous for her antics away from the microphone. After Wendy Williams spoke on the Harlem rapper’s recent Wild ‘N Out run-in and issues with Nick Cannon, Banks wrote in an Instagram story that she hopes the host dies on air. Page Six reports : “She seems to be smart, but angry. Her anger seems to be the problem,” Williams said on her show. “I’m not familiar with her music, I’m just familiar with her anger.” Banks must have heard about Williams’ comments because she said she wants the talk show host to “drop dead.” “Omg can Wendy Williams have another stroke on TV and finally drop dead?” Banks wrote on her Instagram story. “I would love to see her die on air.” Banks was referring to Williams’ health scare when she fainted on live TV in October, which she later revealed to be part of her Graves’ disease diagnosis. The outlet adds that Banks took down her Twitter account after getting blasted with criticism over her comments. Williams has yet to respond to Banks’ words. Billboard writer Michael Saponara posted the IG story screenshot via Twitter, which can be seen below. @WendyWilliams was the latest victim of a verbal assault from Azealia Banks pic.twitter.com/HYsHDPlPXG — Michael $ap (@LordTreeSap) July 17, 2018 — Photo: WENN
