Jermaine Dupri Creates So So Def Female Cypher After Criticizing Women Rappers

Source: Jason Mendez / Getty Jermaine Dupri caught an avalanche of slander from a bevy of women rappers after he criticized them and compared them to being like strippers. After getting a strong lesson on women in the game that can do whatever they want in music just like the men are allowed, the veteran Atlanta producer announced the launch of a new women-focused venture. “After all the calls,DMs, angry tweets and other messages saying “I am a major gatekeeper in the hip hop world, why don’t I invest in a female who is out here hustling and making a name for herself?” I decided to create the #SoSoDefFemalecypher, details coming soon,” Dupri wrote on his social media accounts. On Twitter, R&B singer 6lack checked Dupri on the curious timing of the SoSoDef Female Cypher. women in hip hop don’t need representation/approval from men (ya cypher sounds more reactive than proactive). if u don’t have a fav artist that hits on the subjects u wanna hear, u could solve that wit a quick search & some support. plus, IF they do wanna talk about sex, they can https://t.co/9nX46FDUia — black (@6LACK) July 12, 2019 “[W]omen in hip hop don’t need representation/approval from men (ya cypher sounds more reactive than proactive). if u don’t have a fav artist that hits on the subjects u wanna hear, u could solve that wit a quick search & some support. plus, IF they do wanna talk about sex, they can,” 6lack wrote via Twitter. Dupri fired back with, “You right!! they can talk about whateva they wanna talk about and I can have my opinion right ?” which didn’t endd there. 6lack returned fire saying, “sure, but “they all talkin about the same thing” ain’t accurate lol. i got an amazing playlist that i didn’t even break a sweat to make.” Time will tell if the So So Def boss nails the concept. In a new interview L’Officiel , the singer/actress/entrepreneur talks about taking her career to the next level now that she is expecting a daughter. “My priorities have absolutely changed, not just for creating an amazing future and life for my daughter, but because I want her to be proud of me,” Cassie shared. “I’ve heard people say that they’re nervous to raise females in today’s world, but I’m excited! I can’t wait to see her grow, learn and challenge the world right back!” A big part of getting to that next level is the work of her new team that is comprised of predominantly Black women. When asked about working with a crew of black female creatives, Cassie explained how the new squad has helped her confidence. “When it comes to me choosing to work with certain people I have to go off of an organic connection. I love the fact that everyone that I work with now communicates fully on every aspect, we are not in competition, we work as a team and they actually understand who I am and who I want to mold myself to become. As a group, we work as a collective. “For me, this is the first time that I feel that I actually have a strong team in place that has my best interests at heart and the added bonus is that the majority of the team are creative black females. To me, it means we see each other,” she continued. “The energy I feel when we’re in a room together is unmatchable. We all have our own levels of experience and we bring our best to the table. We support each other and balance each other out all at the same time. It just works.” We’ll certainly be keeping on eye on Cassie’s moves to see how they reflect this new foray into overt Blackness.

Bye, JD: These Female Emcees Have (Stripper-less) Bars For Days

See more here:

Source: Frederick M. Brown / Getty Looks like Jermaine Dupri has caused quite a stir on Al Gore’s internet. The music industry vet usually stays pretty low key, but as of late, he’s been a little more publicly vocal than usual. Earlier this week, JD chatted with People Now and dished on his feelings about the current state of female hip hop. “I feel like they’re all rapping about the same thing. I don’t think they’re showing us who’s the best rapper. For me, it’s, like, strippers rapping. At some point, somebody is going to have to break out of that mold.” Boy oh boy, did that strike a nerve. Many people assumed that JD was talking about Cardi B when he made the comment, and apparently so did she. The stripper turned rapper went off on Dupri during an Instagram Live session on Thursday. “First of all, I rap about my p— because she’s my best friend and second of all it’s because it seems like that’s what people want to hear. When I did ‘Be Careful‘ people was talking mad s— in the beginning like ‘What the f— is this?’ ‘This is not what I was expecting” She went on to name a slew of female emcees that don’t rap about “vajayjays” and stripping. “I feel we need to put these girls in more magazines and blogs. Radio DJs play these girls. These girls can rap they asses off and they don’t rap about their vaginas and sucking d—.” View this post on Instagram SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT A post shared by MOSTHATEDCARDI (@iamcardib) on Jul 11, 2019 at 1:48pm PDT   And Cardi has a point. You’d think that someone has seasoned as JD would do a little more research before discrediting an entire demographic of artists. But this just further proves that some folks are just out of touch with what’s going on today. But don’t worry JD, we got you. Hit the flip for a list of DOPE female rappers whose subject matter will literally blow your mind.

DJ Spinderella Suing Salt-N-Pepa For Unpaid Royalties After They Fired Her

Original post:

Source: Judy Eddy/WENN.com / WENN Spinderella the DJ known for her work with rap trio Salt-N-Pepa is suing her former bandmates in unpaid royalties. According to The Blast , the DJ filed a federal lawsuit against the women after they abruptly fired her. Spinderella, whose real name is Deidra Roper is suing Pepa (Sandra Denton) and Salt (Cheryl James.) The lawsuit states that the group started recording and performing in the mid-1980s. Spinderella says she helped create the success of the group. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). Even though the band went into hiatus in the late 90’s, Spinderella continued promoting the band. But things took a turn in the early 2000s when she discovered there was a “best of” compilation album being released. Spinderella said Pepa told her that she would pay her $125,000 but that never happened. “By the early 2000s, the Defendants discussed with Roper an SNP reunion which would have possibly involved, among other things, a television show based on the legendary female group’s rise to stardom.” DJ Spinderella claims that she was promised a third of the group’s profits from the reality show. While she was featured on the show, she has yet to be paid. According to The Jasmine Brand , this lawsuit is a long-time coming. In addition to royalties from the album and reality show, Spinderella claims she was never paid for the 2018 Billboard Music Award performance. Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Spinderella claims she hasn’t received any of that money. She’s suing for trademark infringement, breach of contract and fraud. She states that the group used her name to advertise their appearances. Serena Williams: Meghan Markle Couldn’t BE a Better Friend to Me!

This week, notoriously unlikeable twonk Piers Morgan launched a verbal attack on Duchess Meghan Markle. He demanded that she “go back to America” if she was going to have the audacity to ask for privacy while attending her friend’s tennis match. Well that friend, Serena Williams, is speaking out, and she may have the best advice in the world when it comes to Piers and his ilk. Duchess Meghan attended The Championships in Wimbledon, where her Serena Williams was playing against Kaja Juvan. Serena is, in addition to being the greatest athletes on the planet, good friends with Meghan. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple outing became controversial after a rumor surfaced. The rumor claimed that Meghan had asked her protection officers to ask that people not take her photo. She wasn’t there as a member of the British royal family, but as a friend watching her friend play on the court. E! News reports that, when they asked Serena if Meghan should ignore her haters and continue on, Serena Williams had a stunning reply. Serena apparently “didn’t know there was negative media out there.” To be clear, she knows that it regularly exists. But she doens’t pay attention — not even to headlines. “Any time I see her name attached to anything,” Serena reveals. “I don’t read it,”  Unlike the British press, who have had a field day printing insults and outright lies about the Duchess for years now, Serena has nothing but praise for Meghan. “She couldn’t be a better friend to me,” Serena shares. Even though she’s a newly married royal and a new mother, Serena says that Meghan doesn’t play games about being there to support her friends. Serena notes: “Low moments, high moments — she’s always there.” “That’s all I want to be to her,” she expresses. It’s good that Meghan has famous friends who have her back — just as she has theirs. It wasn’t just a few disgruntled fans who were allegedly asked to point their cameras in another direction that caused a stir. Professional blowhard Piers Morgan went on an unhinged rant on Good Morning Britain . (Really — it’s bad enough that he’s allowed to speak at all, but do they really have to pay him for it?) He demanded that Meghan “go back to America” if she wanted some privacy. The brainless twonk’s words struck a nerve with a lot of people — including his own cohost. For one thing, obviously, that’s an absurd demand, particularly to make of a woman who just married Prince Harry and birthed his child. But for another, Piers’ words seemed eerily reminiscent of an all-too-common racial insult hurled at black people in America and in the UK: “Go back to Africa.” The fact that he chose to excoriate the royal family’s only  adult black member did not escape people’s notice. A lot of the tabloids that have invented nasty lies about Meghan have done so because she’s black and she’s American. Racists (and brits with Anti-American sentiments) will click, and then the tabloids profit while the bigots get their daily fix of rage. Serena has a good attitude about these things: if you know that it’s negative ragebait, just don’t click. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep coming to THG for less malicious coverage.
