Jackson Rathbone Says Making ‘Breaking Dawn’ Will Be ‘Amazing Experience’

‘I find myself working with people I’ve dreamed of working with,’ actor says of director Bill Condon. By Kara Warner Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone can’t believe his luck: Not only is he part of a hugely popular franchise, but he’s been able to work with some of his favorite directors. When MTV caught up with Rathbone, who is in two big summer movies — “Eclipse” and M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” — he revealed he can’t wait to start work on “Breaking Dawn” with Oscar-winner Bill Condon at the helm. “I have not yet had a chance to meet Bill Condon, but I think it’s going to be an amazing experience to work with an Academy Award-winning director of his caliber,” he said. “Getting to work with these incredible directors that I’ve admired, ever since filming “The Last Airbender” with M. Night, even the first “Twilight” with Catherine Hardwicke. I really loved her directorial debut, [which] I think was ‘Thirteen.’ I thought that was incredible, and she co-wrote it with Nikki Reed, who’s a good friend of mine now.” Rathbone said he’s still trying to wrap his mind around it all and just wants to bask in the glow. “I find myself working with people I’ve dreamed of working with. It’s an amazing position to be in,” he said. “It’s a privilege, not a right. … I’m basking in it, loving it, because as an artist, you get those moments, you live ’em up.” As for “Breaking Dawn,” the musician/actor said he knows just as much as we do. Which is not a lot. “They’re keeping ‘Breaking Dawn’ under wraps,” he said. We’re all waiting on a script right now. It’s all up in the air — we don’t even know when we’re going to film.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “The Last Airbender.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Bon Jovi Rock ‘American Idol’ With ‘Superman Tonight’

‘The harder we work, the luckier we get,’ Jon Bon Jovi says of group’s continued success. By Josh Wigler Jon Bon Jovi With Casey James and Lee Dewyze cleared to the top three and the fates of “American Idol” hopefuls Michael Lynche and Crystal Bowersox hanging in the balance, New Jersey rock band Bon Jovi flew to the “Idol” stage to provide a brief moment of respite from the audience’s nervous anticipation. Bon Jovi performed a blaring rendition of “Superman Tonight,” the second single from their 11th studio album, The Circle. In the past, frontman Jon Bon Jovi has described the song as “something like a diary of the observer, and I’m just the fly on the wall,” providing a suitable context for the musician’s role on Wednesday night’s (May 12) “American Idol”: While Bon Jovi himself is used to taking center stage, even his rocking presence couldn’t fully alleviate the crowd’s anxiety over who would be going home next, an unfortunate distinction that ultimately fell upon Lynche. Following the end of “Superman Tonight,” Ryan Seacrest spoke with Bon Jovi, lead guitarist Richie Sambora and the rest of the band’s roster to congratulate them not just on their performance, but on their status as “the #1 touring band in the world [and] another #1 album.” Asked how Bon Jovi are able to replicate their success year after year, Jon replied: “You know, hard work and good luck. Good friends who have put us in the right places. “We’re humbled. We’ve crossed generations at this point,” Bon Jovi said amid wild applause from the young audience. “It’s really great. The sky’s the limit. The harder we work, the luckier we get — that’s pretty much the way it is.” What did you think of Bon Jovi’s performance on “American Idol”? Let us know in the comments! LMFAO Track Inspired By Mitt Romney Airplane Altercation

‘We’re gonna use this incident to actually bring the world closer together,’ Redfoo says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway LMFAO’s Redfoo Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — LMFAO couldn’t let an opportunity like getting into an altercation with former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney pass without putting their unique twist on things. Redfoo and Sky Blu plan to release a new track on Friday titled “We Came to Party (The Vulcan Grip Mix)” inspired by the incident, where Romney and Sky Blu were whisked off an airplane after arguing with one another. The song, they said, will also double as the release for the pair’s next album, Don’t Judge Me, tentatively set for a summer release. “They call you suit and tie and you’se a politician,” Redfoo rapped the lines to MTV News. “They call me Superfly, I always got two bitches/ You go to church and tithe, I really ain’t religious/ You’re on P’s and Q’s, I sip that Jesus juice.” Then the LMFAO guys burst into the chorus together, “Everybody wants to feel good, from up in Capitol Hill to the ‘hood.” The song doesn’t feature Romney by name, Redfoo explained, but the song title teases at Romney for sure. Sky Blu, who got into the skirmish with the GOP figure, said Romney grabbed him by the shoulder after repeatedly requesting for the musician put his seat up on the still-grounded airplane. Sky Blu refused because of Romney’s tone, and he claimed the former Massachusetts governor then attempted to put a “Vulcan grip” on him. Blu offered that Romney didn’t appear to be rude guy after matters cooled down between them. The guys said they’d like to do shots with the politician, playing off of their Lil Jon-assisted single “Shots.” But Romney, a devout Mormon, doesn’t drink alcohol. So in the interim, LMFAO hope their tune, “We Came to Party (The Vulcan Grip Mix),” will serve as an olive branch. “We’re gonna use this incident to actually bring the world closer together, ” Redfoo said.

Did Jessica Simpson "Create" John Mayer?

A celebrity gossip magazine alleges that Jessica Simpson created the dating monster that is John Mayer. Must have been a slow week over at OK! HQ. Before he met Jessica, John Mayer was “just another musician,” according to friends of Simpson, who are delusional and say she put him on the map. While it is possible that Jessica helped catapult John onto the celebrity dating map in a sense, he was a well-established figure in that realm as well. The name Jennifer Love Hewitt ring a bell, anyone? Thought so. In any case, Jess’ friends are on the offensive after John betrayed her this month … How these two didn’t last is beyond us . In any case, the magazine says it was Jessica’s relationship with John – who recently humiliated her by revealing intimate details about their sex life – that jump-started his ascent up the dating food chain after the couple split in 2006. “It was only after she gave her seal of approval that A-listers like Jen Aniston and Cameron Diaz started dating him,” the source says. “Before that he was a successful musician, no doubt, but Jess ushered him into the world of celebrity dating.” “A lot of Jess’s friends joke that she created a monster, ” a source tells OK!, adding: “She put John on the map and made him a tabloid sensation.” There’s no way those quotes are real, but hey, it’s a good celebrity gossip debate – did Jessica raise John’s dating profile? Or was he slumming it?

John Mayer’s Playboy Interview: Readers Weigh In

MTV News readers react to controversial comments Mayer made in his recent Playboy interview. By Josh Wigler John Mayer Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Singer-songwriter John Mayer’s controversial interview with Playboy magazine has sparked a wide range of reactions from the musician’s fans, detractors, contemporaries and even the most impartial of MTV News readers. Responses have illustrated an array of emotions and reactions ranging from disgust and disappointment to support and ambivalence. While many readers loathed Mayer’s racially charged assertions and detailed comments regarding his sexual exploits, some felt that the musician wasn’t acting out of the ordinary , and still others felt that he had a right to voice his opinion. Several readers utilized choice lyrics from “Waiting on the World to Change,” “My Stupid Mouth” and more to deride Mayer. Needless to say, feedback has been plentiful and strongly voiced, no matter the reader’s opinion. Below are just some of the many reactions that readers have expressed in response to the Mayer controversy, lightly edited for grammar, over the past several days. Please note that these opinions are not reflective of MTV News’ stance on the matter; this is simply a sampling of reader reactions to Mayer’s recent comments. To continue the conversation, please head to the comments section below. “Stop ‘waiting on the world to change.’ What happened to that talented, humble guy? Now you are the monster that can belittle, hurt and shame with no thought for how your words can affect others. I’m waiting for you to change.” — Laurence “Whew…John…you gotta work on the damage control there, seriously. I’m still a fan of your music though. And I keep hearing your song ‘My Stupid Mouth’ in my head.” — trouble520 “John Mayer is a 32-year-old incredible guitar playing singer-songwriter. He is also ignorant and senseless. Every time John thinks he has something of relevance to share, he should just shut his mouth and pick up his guitar — that’s what he’s good at. I will never understand why celebrities think we are interested in [their] sexual exploits and their bad behavior. Grow up, John Boy!!” — sugarray “Being mad every time someone uses the N-word is very ignorant, and this is why racism will never die. There are always two parts [of] every situation. In my opinion, in this situation, there is the negative and people that keep the negative alive, and that’s us African Americans, because we get so mad when the N-word is passed around, when we already do a great job without white people when we rap about it. What makes it so different when a white person [says] it than when we entertain our generation with it? Put that anger into teaching the next generation about our history and stop being ignorant. Stop rapping about *******, whores, money and cars and let something that is meaningful come out of your mouth.” — christina “I don’t believe John Mayer is racist. I understood his intent with those comments. However, he — as he admitted in his bid to save himself from his mouth — tries too hard to be clever, provocative and witty. Usually the people and topics he talks about are too insignificant for anybody to care, but this time people cared and now the foot that usually is in his mouth choked him.” — micdus “Dear John, your apology is accepted as far as I am [concerned] because you did no harm. You used it to make a point and my people use it haphazardly all the time and I don’t like it and we should get rid of this word. I mean we can’t even differentiate between dark-skin and light-skin blacks so we should be [ashamed] of ourselves when this word comes out of our mouths. The first thing you’ll hear for an excuse is it’s a way of expressing [affection] and such and that’s a whole lot of bull and we need to just stop it and not be such hypocrites when we [hear] someone of another race use it. I mean if [you’re] going to mock yourself, then why get angry when others mock you?” — Rosetta Marie Archie “I don’t think he should apologize. If this is really the way he feels, then there’s no reason for him to feel sorry about that. Fans want to know the real artist, not someone who is censored and can’t voice openly his/her opinion.” — takingthestagefan5 “He’s human. We all say and do things we regret. He apologized. What more can be asked of him? He isn’t this perfect god, he’s just a man that is very talented, therefore we’re trying to hold him to a higher standard. Yes, it was a stupid remark, but come on.” — SunCityGirl2 “As a black female, I don’t find what he said racist or offensive. John Mayer is an arrogant jackass. We’ve all known that for some time now. He’s an attention [whore] and this is what he’s getting. Whatever, end of it. But, boy, Playboy just handed him the shovel to dig the hole in deeper and deeper and deeper. Good job, interview!” — iiShannon “I am obsessed with John Mayer, but I have to admit [I’ve] been hard pressed not to tear up every time I think about what he said. It was so hurtful, as a black woman who has bought every one of his albums, campaigned for him against those who thought he was nothing more than a playboy poptart, and was happily telling everyone she knew that she’s going to his concert for the first time. I feel like an idiot.” — candycorps “John, please shut up. Let your music do your talking. Stick that guitar in that big mouth of yours and just shut up.” — yoo Related Artists John Mayer
