All week, MTV has been counting down our Best of 2011 , and Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Adele definitely had us talking during our roundtable debates. Perry had the biggest year of them all, being crowned MTV’s Artist of 2011 . “To be Artist of the Year, a whole 365 days, that’s pretty cool,” Perry said in her acceptance speech . Minaj landed at #2 , with Adele, the Throne, Lady Gaga and Rihanna also high on our Artists of 2011 list. Adele might not have topped our Artists debate, but there was no denying her “Rolling in the Deep” was the Song of the Year . Minaj fell just short of the prize again, with “Super Bass” nabbing the #2 spot , and Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Gaga’s “Born This Way” were also part of our MTV experts’ roundtable debate. But why should we have all the fun? For Best MTV Live Performance , we turned to you, asking fans to vote for their favorites among standout sets from Mac Miller, Beyonc

50 Cent’s Headphones Sales Will Benefit Feeding America Charity

Sale of each headset will provide 250 meals, rapper tells MTV News. By Nadeska Alexis 50 cent Photo: MTV News 50 Cent ‘s entrepreneurial efforts are currently dedicated to pushing his new line of SMS Audio headphones, but the music mogul has also put a charitable spin on the venture. During the NYC launch party for his new tech gear, Fif told MTV News that proceeds from each pair of headphones will be donated to charity. “Because of my Street King initiative , with every purchase there’s a meal being provided through the United Nations World Food Programme,” he said. “And with this actual project, I decided I wanted to do something here in America. So for every pair of these headsets that are sold domestically and online through SMSAudio.com , 250 meals will be provided by Feeding America, which is our leading charitable organization against hunger.” Over the past few months, 50 has been outspoken about the need to fund charitable organizations, using sales from his Street King energy drink to launch a campaign focused on feeding “a billion kids.” “I think business is the answer for finding finances for situations that have been unanswered and untouched,” 50 added. “If young entrepreneurs follow in my footsteps, with having a charitable business model that actually gives back, then you don’t have people standing at Occupy Wall Street , because they’re aware that the major corporations are conscious of them.” 50 Cent’s SMS Audio headphones are priced at $299.99 for a standard pair and $399.99 for the wireless version. They’re available in white, black and blue through SMSAudio.com. Related Artists 50 Cent

Heavy D Fans Pay Final Respects At Public Memorial

Wayans brothers were among mourners; a private funeral service for the late rapper will be held Friday. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rob Markman Heavy D in 1991 Photo: Ron Galella / Getty Images A private funeral for late rapper Heavy D (born Dwight Errington Meyers) will take place Friday, but on Thursday (November 17), his family held an open memorial service from noon to 6p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York. Fans were given a chance to say goodbye to the Overweight Lover, as he was affectionately known. The weather in New York had dipped into the 40s, but that didn’t prevent fans and friends — including the Wayans brothers — from showing up to pay their final respects. Outside the Grace Baptist Church, police officials set up barricades that stretched as far as three city blocks. A steady stream of visitors, heavy with high school students, made their way inside for a last glimpse of the local hero. Once inside, ushers guided fans to the front of the church, where Heavy D lay in an open casket, dressed in a gray suit, with his arms folded. Just above his casket, a video monitor played footage of the Jamaican-born performer from his early days. After fans paid their respects, Heavy’s family did their best to thank each and every visitor as they exited the church. On Friday, guests at Heavy D’s invite-only funeral services will include Mary J. Blige, Diddy (who both worked with Heavy at Uptown Records) and DJ Eddie F and G-Wiz, his group members in the popular ’90s outfit Heavy D & the Boyz. Heavy D was rushed to the hospital last week after collapsing in his Beverly Hills home. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward, at the age of 44. The Los Angeles coroner’s office has not yet announced an official cause of death. Trina Teams With Rick Ross On Post-Slip-N-Slide Album

‘Ross has been a mentor in my career from the start,’ she says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Sway Calloway Trina on “RapFix Live” Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News Trina released her debut album, Da Baddest Bitch, via Slip-n-Slide Records in 2000, and she remained with the Miami-based label to drop four additional LPs, including her most recent, 2010’s Amazin’. But when she stopped by MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (November 9), Trina confirmed that her upcoming sixth album would signal the end of an era with Slip-n-Slide. “I’m no longer considered to be affiliated with Slip-n-Slide,” Trina said. “Slip-n-Slide is like my family. I grew up with those guys, and it’s been a long journey. I love them dearly, but it’s time, in my career, for me to move forward, and I’m excited about taking the next step and seeing what’s there for me.” Trina emphasized that her split with the label was an amicable one and a necessary step in her evolution as an artist. “It’s scary after you’ve been with somebody for all of your career to step out on your own,” she said. “You’re wondering which way to turn, but I’m ready and willing to do what I need to do for myself. “I’m not the kid on Slip-n-Slide’s roster anymore,” she continued. “I’ve spent my whole career with Slip-n-Slide — five albums — and I’m really excited about going forward without them, but I still look at them as family, no matter what.” During her sit-down with Sway, Trina also revealed that she’s been working with Rick Ross to craft her sixth album, which inevitably led to questions about a possible deal with Rozay’s Maybach Music Group. Trina wouldn’t confirm (or deny) if she will be the latest addition to the squad, opting only to speak about her relationship with Ross. “Ross has been a mentor in my career from the start. Even before the world got a chance to see him, he was a part of my team,” she said. “For him to come out and be very successful and do his thing and for me to still have him in my life, it’s a blessing. For me to work with him on my sixth album and have him there to guide it, understand what I want and see my vision, that means everything to me.” What are you expecting from Trina’s work with Rick Ross? Tyga And Drake’s ‘Still Got It’ Video Will Be ‘Fly’

‘I want to shoot it in Harlem, because that’s just the young, fly place to be,’ Tyga tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Nadeska Alexis Tyga Photo: MTV News Tyga is still putting the finishing touches on his Young Money debut, Careless World, but now, he’s less focused on finalizing the track list than getting his timing right. Because, from the sound of things, there’s no shortage of material for him to choose from. “I have productions from Cool & Dre, Pharrell; I actually produced a lot with my in-house producer, Jess Jackson,” Tyga told MTV News backstage at Philadelphia’s Powerhouse 2011 on Friday. “As an artist, you just know what you want to hear; it’s just better to make your own sound rather than try to find a sound and add a story to it.” And despite all that, Tyga knows what’s up next: shooting a video for “Still Got It,” his collaboration with Drake that appeared earlier this month. But as is the case with most things these days, he’s already thinking about his next move too. It’s sort of an embarrassment of riches, actually. “We’re about to shoot that [‘Still Got It’] video next week with Drake, and I’ve got another single I’m going to drop after that, with Nicki [Minaj],” he laughed. “I have a lot of good singles right now, it’s just about timing.” So while he’s very much looking toward the future, we had to ask Tyga about the present too — namely, that video with Drake. So what can fans expect from the clip? Well, he wasn’t about to reveal all the secrets, but Tyga did say it will reflect his Young Money status by being “young and fly.” “I want to shoot it in New York … in Harlem, because that’s just the young, fly place to be in New York,” he said. “I don’t want to give [the plot] away, but you know, it’s going to be young and fly, you feel me?” What are you expecting from Tyga and Drake’s video? Wale Bringing His Ambition To ‘RapFix Live’

Maybach Music rapper will join Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com to talk about his sophomore album. By Nadeska Alexis Wale Photo: Getty Images In February, Wale joined Rick Ross ‘ Maybach Music roster . Since then, the D.C. rapper has been counting down until the release of his sophomore album, Ambition , which drops Tuesday. This Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com, Wale will sit down with Sway on “RapFix Live” to give fans some insight into his state of mind, 24 hours after the project’s official release. In anticipation of the album’s debut, Wale has already rolled out the singles “Slight Work” featuring Big Sean and the title track “Ambition,” which features his MMG cohorts Rick Ross and Meek Mill . One of the most buzzed-about collaborations, however, is the Kid Cudi-featured “Focused,” which caused a splash thanks to a very public falling-out between the two rappers last year and an equally public reconciliation earlier this year. “When they kept talking about me and Cudi in every magazine, this is the record I felt like they needed to hear,” Wale told MTV News . “The one that everybody was going to get behind, and it was going to go top 40 and not be corny.” During his recent “Road to Release” series on MTV2’s “Sucker Free,” Wale revealed that he was much more selective about features this time around, including about half the amount of guests who appeared on his debut, Attention: Deficit. “We kept the features to a minimum because I wanted to give you more of me than I did on the previous project,” Wale explained. Attention: Deficit debuted in November 2009 — with features from artists such as Lady Gaga , Bun B and Gucci Mane — to a lukewarm reception. Some of the album’s lackluster performance on the charts was attributed to under shipment from Wale’s former label Interscope Records. Not one to be deterred, Wale followed up with the August 2010 mixtape More About Nothing , which became a trending topic on Twitter. This year, he scored a major hit with the single “600 Benz” from Maybach Music’s Self-Made Vol. 1 album, and he dropped another popular mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory in August. Mobb Deep Set To Shake Up ‘RapFix Live’!

Tennessee femcee Gangsta Boo will also chop it up with Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com. By Nadeska Alexis Mobb Deep Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images Last month, New York titans Mobb Deep exclusively revealed the cover art for their upcoming Black Cocaine EP on our RapFix blog. Now, Havoc and Prodigy are set to swing by MTV’s “RapFix Live” on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET to talk about the November release, which they’ll follow-up with their self-titled ninth studio album. The duo will chop it up with Sway about their latest projects, as well as their catalog of classic albums, including 1995’s The Infamous and 1996’s Hell on Earth. Those records ushered the two Queensbridge, New York, MCs to the forefront of the East Coast’s gritty street rap movement. And judging from the crowd’s reaction at this summer’s Rock the Bells Festival , hits like “Shook Ones II” haven’t lost much steam. But the Infamous Mobb Deep have been busy both in and out of the studio. Last month, Hav and Prodigy inked a new deal with Sony’s RED Distribution to release new projects via their Infamous Records imprint. And Prodigy is now a published author. After the release of 2006’s Blood Money, Prodigy served a stint behind bars , emerging this year with the controversial My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, a book that brought back a flood of memories from the heyday of mid-90s rap. M-O-B-B will share the “RFL” couch with Tennessee rapper Gangsta Boo, perhaps best known for her lyrics on Three Six Mafia’s 2000 album, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1, as well as her own solo projects. In addition to a new feature alongside Eminem on “Throw It Up,” the explosive single from Yelawolf’s Radioactive album, Gangsta Boo is gearing up to release an EP with Drumma Boy in February. Mobb Deep and Gangsta Boo have earned reputations as outspoken MCs in the game, so tune into “RapFix Live” this week to see what they’ll reveal.
