‘Black Swan’ Director Pulling For Best Kiss MTV Movie Award

Darren Aronofsky tells MTV News he wants ‘to see Mila [Kunis] and Natalie [Portman] kiss again’ at awards show. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman on the set of “Black Swan” Photo: Niko Tavernise Darren Aronofsky’s psychological ballet fantasy “Black Swan” is so full of metaphors, arresting imagery and memorable performances by stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, one would think filmgoers and critics would come away with endless topics to discuss. And yet, that hasn’t been the case, as much of the publicity blitz has zeroed in on the movie’s sex scenes and the actresses awkwardly rehashing filming details. Regardless, one “sexy” aspect director Aronofsky was more than willing to address is his potential nomination and win for Best Kiss at next year’s MTV Movie Awards. “Do you think we’re going to win the MTV Best Kiss?” he asked MTV News when we caught up with him recently to discuss the film. “Is that what you’re going for?” we countered. “Absolutely,” he said. “Only to see Mila and Natalie kiss again. “But, the thing that bothers me most about MTV,” he continued, “is that we didn’t even get nominated for Best Fight of the year for ‘The Wrestler.’… The Necro Butcher versus Randy ‘The Ram’? I mean, how could we not get nominated?” he complained, affably. “We had a staple gun and a fork. I mean, is there a thing about rated-R violence? Are they trying to stay away?” Honestly, we couldn’t answer that question — only that we know “Twilight” cleaned up in most categories — but we did promise Aronofsky we would do our best to make sure “Black Swan” gets some attention for Best Kiss. Back to his much-buzzed-about film, which opens Friday (December 3), we asked Aronofsky if the heightened sexuality in the film is derived from the research he did on the world of ballet. “Well, there is a lot of sexuality,” Aronofsky said. “It’s a very sexy thing: It’s bodies moving through space in skimpy clothes. There’s an erotic element to it,” he explained. “People in the ballet world might be up in arms, but it almost — if you think about what people in the 1800s were allowed to see as far as sexuality, and then they would go and see a form of a tutu and men in tights with codpieces — it was a form of pornography, I think, for rich people back in the day. “But also, the film is about a girl trapped in a woman’s body,” Aronofsky continued. “A woman-child trying to burst out, and, of course, what a girl to a woman is her sexuality, so it was about Natalie’s sexuality bursting out.” What do you think of all the “sexy” talk surrounding “Black Swan”? DJ Scoob Doo Taking Break From Lil Wayne To Travel To Africa

‘Nino Brown’ director tells Mixtape Daily he’ll shoot Wayne’s ‘Bill Gates’ video when he gets back. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: Leon Prime Celebrity Favorites: DJ Scoob Doo Scoob Doo might be best known for directing Lil Wayne music videos and as the man behind the “Nino Brown” DVD series featuring Tunechi, but the New Jersey native got his start behind the wheels of steel. Now, as a result of his growing popularity, Scoob’s taking his talents overseas. “I’m going to South Africa,” he told us over the phone on Tuesday. Scoob will be out there for the rest of the week and is scheduled to host and DJ a few parties while he’s in town. The breakthrough journey (he’s never visited the continent before) almost didn’t happen, though. Since Lil Wayne was sprung from Rikers Island last month, the MC has been back at work, recording music, shooting material for the next “Nino Brown” DVD and readying a video for the next track from I Am Not a Human Being. And that means Scoob has been busy documenting the process — around the clock. “We’ve been working nonstop on our personal endeavors and projects, and it’s a situation where it’s bigger than life right now as far as my work goes,” Scoob explained. “I was at a crossroads deciding if I was gonna go to Africa or was I gonna stay. So I had a conversation with Tunechi, and Tunechi understood that I’m going away for a couple of days, but when I get back we’re gonna be full up and running, picking up wherever we left off. And when I get back, just to put things in perspective, when I get back, we’re gonna shoot a professional video for ‘Bill Gates’ and it’s gonna be historic.” During his trip, Scoob plans turn the camera around on himself and shoot scenes from the events. “I always wanted to go and it’s one of those places you always wanna go,” he said. “But it’s so, and excuse my language, it’s so f—ing awesome that I get to go and I am getting paid to go and I’m doing what I love to do. So it’s like it’s a bonus. And I’m kind of scoping the scene ’cause a lot of people that I work with always wanted to go but were scared to take that trip. So I’m actually gonna scope it out and make sure that it’s good and everything. It’s going to be a frequent opportunity for all of my clients and partners as far as this business goes.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Vincent Cassel on Black Swan, Movie Overkill and the Politics of Selling Out

One good, sprawling interview with an international cinema star deserves another, and so we return to Vincent Cassel. When the French actor spoke to Movieline over the summer about his two-part gangster epic Mesrine , he also commented a bit about a little “independent movie” he was doing with director Darren Aronofsky. Mere months later, Black Swan has captivated critics, festival audiences and not just a few Oscar voters ahead of this weekend’s theatrical opening.

Mila Kunis Bans Her Dad From ‘Black Swan’ Sex Scenes

‘I don’t think any dad should see,’ she tells MTV News. ‘It’s just not necessary.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Mila Kunis Photo: MTV News It seems the only thing anyone can talk about when it comes to “Black Swan” is the much-hyped sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Even Kunis and her dad found themselves discussing the nitty-gritty details. Their conversation amounted to this: Mr. Kunis was banned from watching the scenes in question. “He was like, ‘I don’t think I should see the movie,’ ” Kunis told MTV News. “I was like, ‘See the movie. There’s going to be a point; get up and leave.’ ” And so that’s exactly what happened. When the no-holds-barred sex session came up — a scene Portman previously told us was “not explicit in any way,” but which is undeniably steamy — Kunis gave her dad the signal, and off he went. “I don’t think any dad should see. It’s just not necessary,” she explained. While Kunis avoided some familial awkwardness in that situation, she’s found it more than a little uncomfortable to constantly discuss the sex scene with the press. “Doing [the scene], you never judge your character, so you always have justification for it,” the 27-year-old said. “When you do it, it makes sense while you’re doing it. You don’t feel like it’s you doing it.” She added, “The more I talk about it, the more I have to think about it. We never discussed it. It was like the pink elephant in the room that was never touched upon until it was the day to shoot. Then we just did it really quickly and called it a day.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Black Swan.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis Support Co-Star James Franco As Oscar Host

‘They’re going to do a great job,’ Kunis says of Franco and co-host Anne Hathaway. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Natalie Portman at the 2010 Gotham Awards Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images News broke Monday morning that Anne Hathaway and James Franco had been tapped to host the 83rd annual Academy Awards , but those reports never reached two of Franco’s co-stars. That evening, at the red-carpet premiere for “Black Swan” in New York, MTV News asked Natalie Portman, who stars alongside Franco in the upcoming comedy “Your Highness,” what she thought of the hosting news. “I didn’t hear about that!” she told us. “That’s awesome. That’s really cool.” Earlier in the day, Franco’s “Date Night” co-star Mila Kunis (who also happens to star with Portman in “Black Swan”) stopped by the MTV Newsroom, and when we asked for her thoughts on the Oscar development, she too confessed she hadn’t heard. “What? That’s awesome,” she said. “I think they’re going to do a great job.” Both women will likely be on hand for the festivities, as “Black Swan” is a front-runner to nab nominations in a slew of categories, from Best Picture to Best Actress for Portman. There’s even an outside chance Kunis could reel in a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Franco, meanwhile, has been a leading contender for an acting nod based on his turn as a trapped hiker in “127 Hours.” How his hosting duties will affect his chance of receiving a nomination and then winning the award is anyone’s guess. All Portman knows is that with Franco and Hathaway emceeing the ceremony, the 83rd Oscars should be a whole lot more entertaining than past versions of the show. “That’ll be more fun to watch than usual,” she said. Fashion Face-Off: Mila Kunis vs. Natalie Portman

In Black Swan , Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman take part in a rather intense, girl-on-girl sex scene. But, much to the chagrin of males everywhere, both actresses kept their clothes on at last night’s Gotham Independent Film Awards. Kunis donned a Oscar de la Renta dress for the event, which took place on Wall Street in Manhatten, while Portman chose a Lanvin for H&M frock. The latter is considered a serious contender for Best Actress at next year’s Oscars, but does that mean she can conquer her co-star in this Fashion Face-Off? You tell us… [poll id=”1663″ /]

‘Harry Potter’ Outflies ‘Tangled’ At Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office

‘Deathly Hallows, Part 1’ continues to enchant moviegoers. By Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. As people across the country recover from their Thanksgiving turkey comas, it’s clear that moviegoers remained energetic throughout the five-day holiday box-office weekend. Thanks to the combined efforts of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” and “Tangled,” this past weekend was the second-highest-grossing Thanksgiving period on record, second only to last year when “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and “The Blind Side” battled it out. “Harry Potter” led the charge, soaring away from the five-day weekend with $76.3 million in its pocket, $50.4 million of which was made during the standard Friday-through-Sunday timeframe. The seventh installment in the beloved novel-turned-film series has earned $220.4 million after two weekends in theaters, an impressive result that’s bound to get shattered when the second half of “Deathly Hallows” arrives next summer. But Harry, Ron and Hermione didn’t earn first place without a fight, as Disney’s “Tangled” provided some stiff competition. Both movies targeted similar family-friendly crowds, and while “Harry Potter” won in the end, it was a close race. “Tangled” ended its five-day debut with $69 million, less than $10 million behind “Harry.” It was even closer when examining the standard three-day totals of each film, where “Potter” outpaced “Tangled” by less than $1 million. Of course, it can’t be ignored that “Tangled” debuted in almost 2,500 3-D locations — meaning higher ticket prices — while Warner Bros. opted to skip 3-D altogether for the first “Deathly Hallows” installment. “Tangled” performed the best of the weekend’s new releases, with Cher and Christina Aguilera’s “Burlesque” coming in a distant second with a $17.2 million fourth-place finish. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway’s “Love & Other Drugs” and Dwayne Johnson’s “Faster” fell flat, arriving in sixth and seventh place with $14 million and $12.2 million respectively over the five-day holiday weekend. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” ($76.3 million) #2 “Tangled” ($69 million) #3 “Megamind” ($17.6 million) #4 “Burlesque” ($17.2 million) #5 “Unstoppable” ($16.2 million) Upcoming Releases “The Warrior’s Way” kicks its way into the box-office arena next weekend, while director Darren Aronofsky and actress Natalie Portman’s “Black Swan” dances in limited release.
