Hurricane Irene Survival Tips ‘Jersey Shore’-Style

After flying to L.A. for the VMAs, the cast shares how they would have endured the storm’s charge through New Jersey. By Eric Ditzian Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News “We’ve warned the public,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Saturday as Hurricane Irene shut down most of the East Coast, “and now we have to deal with Mother Nature.” That’s when the cast of the “Jersey Shore” took out their grenade whistle and declared: So long, ladies! The storm whipped through the Tri-State area early Sunday morning (August 28), leaving thousands in New Jersey and Long Island without power, and causing dangerous floods in the Garden State. But housemates Snooki, Vinny, Deena and Sammi were safe and dry, having sauntered aboard a private jet and zipped away from the tri-state area and toward Los Angeles for the VMAs , pausing only for Vinny to tweet a picture of himself at the controls of the aircraft. “I was flying the plane, but that was on the ground. I was just messing around in the cockpit,” he told us alongside his castmates a few hours after touching down in La La Land. “Being on a private jet, it’s not that bad — except it didn’t have wi-fi. Could you believe it?” Pauly couldn’t, turning to his pal and declaring, “You’ve changed, bro! When your private jet doesn’t have wi-fi and you gotta complain about it — Vinny problems!” Then again, they haven’t changed much at all. Their suggestions for hurricane preparedness included battery-powered hairdryers, a healthy dose of GTL, and the suggestion, “If you’re by the water, just be more not by the water.” Luckily for them (and, perhaps, their old Jersey stomping grounds), the reality stars were far from the hurricane’s path. Because if they were in the Heights, despite Irene’s wrath, the “Shore” kids would be staging one heck of a bash. “We’d have a lights-out party,” Pauly said. “You party for the whole duration,” Added Ronnie, “Hey, a bottle of Ron-ron juice, let’s go!” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Zoe Saldana Talks Hollyweird And Black Presidents With EBONY, Plus JET Beauty Of The Week Chris Tucker Is Making A Comeback

Errybody is crazy for “Colombiana” star Zoe Saldana these days. EBONY also has the Dominican banger on their September cover. Inside she says she refuses to talk about her racial struggles in Hollyweird because there’s a black man in the White House. Check out an excerpt from her feature story below: Saldana claims Queens, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic as her roots and her sangre. Yet she won’t linger on the matter of her heritage. She’d prefer to simply discuss Zoë, the actress, the one to be feared because she will get that role. And that’s why she who rocked the world in Avatar will soon kick major ass—as a human this time—in this month’s killer revenge-action flick, Colombiana. She portrays Cateleya Restrepo, an assassin who, as a schoolgirl, saw her parents murdered by a cartel. Consequently, the girl grows up with a couple of guns and one hell of a chip on her shoulder. Saldana loves Cateleya because of the character’s vulnerability, anger, athleticism and fear. She also embraces the idea that this leading role destroys yet another barrier of so-called rules in Black Hollywood, which is why she will not and cannot complain about color, race and roles. “When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs,” she says. “Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon. … We have a Black president right now, so why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?” Strong words from the tall beauty full of grace (she’s also a classically trained ballet dancer) who just hours earlier pranced about a lush green garden in a ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown for her cover shoot. Given her penchant for playing the female aggressor, such talk is not completely unexpected. Saldana is confident but not arrogant. She enjoys the trappings of success while also lamenting the loss of anonymity that interrupts Tia Zoë and a much-loved niece during a trip to Madame Toussauds Wax Museum. But again, she’s not complaining because that’s not her nature. She’ll find a way to make Toussauds happen by taking charge. And when she does, watch out. Wow. Zoe is kickin’ major a*s right now. How do you feel about her attitude towards racism in the acting business? Is she comparing herself to Obama or just saying it’s hard out here for alla us right now??? The Change-Up Roundtable: Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman Switch Bodies, Get Raunchy

A movie about two characters who switch bodies isn’t exactly ground-breaking. It’s been done many times before. But two of the funniest men in Hollywood still jumped at the chance to star on The Change-Up and they explained why in a roundtable discussion this week: because the R rating opened up a world of dirty, fun possibilities. The Change-Up Trailer “It was fun to see this kind of premise – which is usually a PG premise – executed in such a hard way, in such an edge,” Ryan Reynolds said. “It was no-holds barred. It was the first script I’ve read in a long time where I cried laughing.” The Change-Up comes out on Friday. You can check out the official trailer above and read the full roundtable transcript at Movie Fanatic !

Alex Rodriguez Under Investigation for Underground Poker Participation, Brawl

Alex Rodriguez should stick to being fed popcorn by Cameron Diaz. For the second time in a few years, the Yankees third baseman is at the center of an underground poker scandal. According to Radar Online, ARod took part in a couple illegal Texas Hold ‘Em games in the recent past, during which cocaine was used and a brawl broke out. Major League Baseball is looking into the allegations and taking them “very seriously,” an insider tells ESPN. The Yankees have won five games in a row without Alex Rodriguez in the lineup. The games were held at the Beverly Hills mansion of record executive Cody Leibel, with the host losing “more than a half-million dollars” at one, a witness told Radar, and violence subsequently breaking out over his refusal to pay. Once things turned ugly, Rodriguez reportedly left the scene and”tried to distance himself from the game,” said professional poker player Dan Bilzerian, who was present that night. “He just shook his head, not knowing what the hell happened,” said Bilzerian. “He didn’t want to deal with it at all. He was like, ‘OK, whatever. It’s your game.’ I would estimate A-Rod lost, like, a few thousand dollars that night. After everything that happened, he paid up and left.” In 2005, faced with rumors that their $300 million investment was taking part in gambling of this nature, the Yankees warned ARod to cease all illegal activity. But it apparently hasn’t sunk in and an anonymous MLB source says: “[Commissioner Bud Selig is] totally fed up with him. It’s like there’s something new with him every day and it’s impossible to keep up with it.” Former Paris Hilton sex tape partner Rick Salomon was also present at the games, an onlooker said. No, really.

‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Stars Give Apes Top Billing

Tom Felton, James Franco and other castmembers say come for the apes, stay for the story … or just the apes. By Kara Warner Freida Pinto and James Franco at the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” premiere Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images HOLLYWOOD — There is enough intrigue, presumed destruction and primate shenanigans in the trailers for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” to entice more than just the fans of the 1968 original into theaters when the film opens next week. But when MTV News caught up with the principal castmembers at the Hollywood premiere on Thursday, we asked them to sell us on a few more of the film’s must-see elements, aside from their furry co-stars. Basically, if people come to see the apes, what will make them stay? “Wow, James [Franco], Freida [Pinto], Andy [Serkis], everyone else,” Tom Felton said, speaking to his co-stars’ appeal. “There is a mixture of CGI and special effects that we’ve never seen onscreen before, along with a strong story and a strong message: Humans can’t play God too much. We should not overstep our boundaries when it comes to manipulating Mother Nature.” Pinto countered that it’s all about the apes. “I think this is one of few films that really give them a voice as well,” she said. “Of course, ‘Planet of the Apes’ did as well, but ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ gives them a voice in a very revolutionary way.” One of the prominent primate voices heard is that of Caesar, played by seasoned motion-capture performer Andy Serkis, who, according to Franco, is the main reason why the film is any good. “The apes, I think Andy Serkis and WETA should get top billing,” Franco said. “They stole the show; they’re incredible.” Actor John Lithgow, who plays the father of Franco’s character, was the only one who thought folks will start out loving the apes and leave loving the humans. “They [will] stay for the people, and the extent to which the apes become people,” he said. “It’s a story, it’s a great story, that’s why they stay.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Annalynne McCord In Her Sexy Unitard

Unless she’s got some weird fetish about dressing up as a panther, I’m going to assume that these are pictures of AnnaLynne McCord on the set of her crappy teen TV show. I don’t know why she’s in this costume, but I’m happy to see that it’s a skin tight unitard. Well done costume department. This is some wildlife I can get into, I want to see this kind of thing on the nature channel. They can place hidden cameras in AnnaLynne’s natural habitat so that we can see what she does when nobody’s around. Let’s start with the bedroom.
