Mo Money: Lockout Puts Plenty Paper In Owners Hands But Leaves Players With Less Than Before!!!

The NBA lockout is a wrap, so what exactly was all the fuss over again? The Wall Street Journal did a breakdown of who stands to gain the most from the agreement and they’re saying the owners are definitely #winning: The biggest changes will be off the court after owners scored an obvious economic win. The two sides will split the league’s $4 billion in annual revenue almost equally, while in previous agreements the players received 57%. On the court, despite systematic changes like reducing contract length and increasing fees for high-spending teams, most think it will be business as usual. “It’s not exactly the same as it’s always been, but it’s closest to that than something new—this is not a seismic shift,” said Tom Penn, a former Portland Trailblazers executive and a salary-cap expert. “The system still favors aggressive owners who are in go-for-it mode. It will just cost them more.” The league also scored a victory on the business side. The 10-year deal, with an option to terminate after six years by either side, saves not only this season but also the NBA’s image as a viable option for advertising. “The big winners are anyone involved in marketing and financing in the NBA—the advertisers, the sponsors, they’ve got continuity now,” said David Carter, executive director of the Sports Business Institute at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. “A lot of people are focusing on what this means right away, but you have to look at it as 10 years that marketing partners and TV partners know they have this.” The NBA salvages its national TV contract with Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN and ABC and Time Warner Inc.’s Turner Sports, which pay the league a combined $930 million per year. Advertisers spent $807 million on NBA games that aired on cable and network TV last season, according to WPP PLC’s Kantar Media. An average of two million people watched regular-season NBA games last year on ESPN, while an average of 2.5 million watched such games on Turner’s TNT, according to Nielsen. NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said that competitive advantage was “critical” in the negotiations and that the goal of the new deal was for all 30 teams to compete. But USC’s Mr. Carter said although that will be a valuable ticket-selling message for small-market teams, it will still be a “rarity” for small teams to compete at the level of more high-profile teams under the new deal. Mr. Penn, who is now an analyst at ESPN, said small-market teams will still face the same obstacles in the new system, adding that for struggling teams to “make financial ends meet and spend the money you need, it would be nearly impossible to keep up with the Joneses.” The other losers, Mr. Penn said, are the stars. “This is a tough deal for the superstars,” he said. “The years of contract they can sign for goes down, the annual raises go down, maximum salaries over the long term will either level off or go down depending on the salary cap. Once again they won’t be getting their fair share.” Not every star will suffer however. Mr. Penn said that the short-term beneficiaries of the resolution are the Miami Heat, which has three stars—LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade—in the lineup whose contracts have been set, while the rest of the league enters a frantic free-agency period. “I would say the losers in many ways are the fans because you don’t know what product you’re going to get for a significant amount of money,” said Jeff Van Gundy, an ESPN commentator and former NBA coach who took the New York Knicks to the Finals during the lockout-shortened 1999 season. “If you look at it, the drop in the offensive numbers in 1999 was significant, the efficiency of players was poor,” Mr. Van Gundy said. “You can’t skip steps [like training camp], and what the NBA and its players have agreed to is skipping steps and then saying ‘OK, let’s go play great basketball’—and it doesn’t happen that way and the people that pay the brunt of that are the fans.” Training camps and free agency will launch simultaneously on Dec. 9, NBA Commissioner David Stern said, meaning that some teams will start practice with only a handful of players while trying to recruit others. To add to the unpredictability, the league has yet to unveil its 66-game schedule, which is set to begin Dec. 25. SMH @ the Shady Dream Team coming up roses in this deal while the current free agents have no chance of getting those kinds of sweet deals. More On Bossip! ‘Tis the day after Thanksgiving and if you aren’t out shopping fighting in stores you’re home recovering from eating too much. Some of us are hitting the gym, while others are laid up with Pepto Bismol in an i.v.. Why? Because someone in your family (or extended family) saw fit to serve some of the foods pictured below. Twitter was lit up with these #Strugglemeals all day long so I had to share them. Somebody get these folks some cooking lessons before Christmas! Jr. just came home and wanted to try the “Coogi Sweater” turkey recipe that he saw written on the wall of his cell. We’re sure the kids loved this one but your Octodogs are four legs short. The person who brought this banana pudding doesn’t like you.  The Vanilla wafers are picketing along the side refusing to get in. Somebody lost a bet. The person who made it and the person who has to eat it. This stuffing looks like it was pulled out of the Turkey’s butt while it was still alive. We have no idea what this is but we called the Men In Black to apprehend it. This SpongeBob Square Mac won first place in the  annual “5411 Hoodrat Cook-Off” hosted by Antoine Dodson. This is the kind of sh*t that makes Islamic extremists  run into buildings with bombs strapped to their chests. #OccupyCookbooks.

NBA Lockout Over! Kris Humphries a Free Agent!

An official agreement must still be reached, but it’s safe to celebrate, NBA fans: the lockout is over! Commissioner David Stern and Player’s Association leader Billy Hunter appeared at a joint press conference last night and announced that a tentative agreement had been reached, the results of which mean the following: training camps and free agency will begin on December 9. A 66-game season will kick off on Christmas Day. What is the celebrity gossip spin to all this? Kris Humphries is a free agent, of course. Where will Kim’s reality TV co-star play ball next season?!? The bruising power forward averaged a double-double in 2010-2011, growing into one of the few bright spots for the New Jersey Nets. That team may attempt to re-sign him, but its priority will be locking up point guard Deron Williams to a long-term deal. With no hard cap in place, the Knicks will have the deep pockets to a lure a few key free agents, and we all know how much Kris has embraced the big market lifestyle . No matter where Humphries ends up playing, only one question really matters: With what cheer will NBA fans taunt him? We’ve offered a few possibilities below and we welcome any other suggestions: Kim Kardashian Divorce – The Pulse

Comeback Season: NBA Players And Owners Reach A Tenative Agreement To Start The Season Christmas Day!!!

Sweet baby Jesus!!! After an exhausting, 149-day work stoppage that threatened to wipe out the first full season in NBA history, the league’s owners and players agreed to a tentative new collective bargaining agreement, commissioner David Stern and union executive director Billy Hunter announced early Saturday. The joint announcement, delivered by Stern, Hunter, deputy commissioner Adam Silver, San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt and union executives Derek Fisher and Maurice Evans just after 3 a.m. in a conference room at the New York offices of Weil, Gottschalk & Manages LLP, came after a tumultuous, 15-hour negotiating session that, according to those in the room, nearly derailed several times during the evening. “Despite some bumps this evening,” said a bleary-eyed Stern, “the greater good required us to knock ourselves out and come to this tentative understanding.” While both sides were mum on the details, citing a need to resolve the lawsuit the players filed against the league this month and get the approval of both the players and the NBA’s Board of Governors, here is what we know: Source Flip the page for some of the details that are known thus far.

John Wall was also in the building, but did not play. I don’t know why, and I assume he had a minor injury or something. There were also a few other players for each team, but they weren’t NBA players and I didn’t remember… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Sactown Royalty Discovery Date : 21/11/2011 05:17 Number of articles : 2

When The NBA Checks Stop Coming In….

The NBA lockout is real, and while some players are out whining and feeling bad for themselves…some are out trying to get some addition income: Amar’e Stoudemire might rack up more SAG credits than basketball stats this season, thanks to his burgeoning television career and the lingering NBA lockout. After guest appearances on “Law & Order: SVU,” “Entourage” and “Sesame Street” this year, the Knick will appear on TV Land’s “The Exes” opposite Kristen Johnston in a January episode. He plays an NBA star who dates Johnston, and we’re told the two end up kissing on screen. We see you Amar’e get that paper and that SAG credit up! Hopefully the folks at Sesame Street are unaware of the photos of his schlong lingering around the internets though… Source

I remember I was driving home from the doctor, and I called [my boyfriend] Ime, and I was like, ‘Babe, I’m really kind of sad right now. The doctor actually said if I wanted to have more children, it would be hard.’ The next time [Ime] came to visit, he said, ‘I don’t believe that.’ I said, ‘You don’t?’ He said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Good, me neither.’ Then I got pregnant.” 2011 is turning out to be a banner year for Nia; in addition to her new bundle of joy, she enjoyed rave reviews earlier this year  as a loving Muslim mother in the indie hit Mooz-lum, as well as the recent announcement Universal Pictures gave the greenlight for a sequel to 1999′s The Best Man .
