Lots of comings, lots of goings, lots of inside baseball, lots of Jon Hamm getting drunk. Making matters even more complicated is the fact that the 1960s-set AMC drama has been off the air for dangerously close to two years, thanks in large part to contract disputes between the network and “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner. Now, “Mad Men” is finally set to return for its fifth season on Sunday night. But, as is often the case with the show, don’t expect Weiner and company to welcome you back into the world of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce with an instruction manual. If you don’t remember what went down in the last few seasons of the Emmy Award-winning show, that burden rests entirely on you. So if you’re behind on your “Mad Men” know-how, or simply need a refresher before Sunday night, don’t sweat it: Keep reading for 10 things you need to remember about season four going into the weekend’s big season-five premiere.
The Bachelor stars Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson are determined to make this thing work in spite of all the negativity – and they appear to be succeeding. At least in the immediate aftermath of The Bachelor bloodbath. Once host-pimp Chris Harrison coughed up and Ben re-issued the $80,000 Neil Lane ring to Courtney on the After The Final Rose special, they turned a corner. Courtney says that despite the bumps in the road over the last few months, things are progressing nicely and she’s nothing but optimistic for the future. “We try not to pay attention to it,” Courtney said this week of the tabloid scrutiny. “I guess positive stories don’t sell, so no one wants to run the truth.” However, it hasn’t been all nude photo scandals , cheating rumors and hating. The general public, Court says, has been quite supportive in recent weeks: “I just spent the weekend with Ben in San Francisco and people kept coming up, offering words of encouragement. So, things seem to be getting better.” Courtney Robertson reiterated that she believes Ben did not cheat, saying “at the end of the day, if I didn’t trust him, I wouldn’t be with him, period.” “He trusted and believed in the real me. This has been the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I found Ben; he made everything worth it.” On the topic of moving in together, she says, “I’m hopeful it will happen by summer. We’re not in a rush, but neither of us wants to be in a long distance relationship.” “For now, we have a lot of fun, little trips planned. But I do love San Francisco and can definitely see myself having a happy life there with Ben.” As for Ben’s sister Julia, who Tweeted the pic above of their recent double date, she says they “talk all the time and she’s really helped me get through this.” What do you think? It’s too rare that we get to bring the tunes around here, so Movieline is extra-pleased to debut three songs from the soundtrack to the SXSW premiere Daylight Savings — all featuring singer/songwriter (not to mention the film’s leading man) Goh Nakamura. Director Dave Boyle’s sequel to last year’s Surrogate Valentine bows Thursday in Austin ; the official synopsis goes a little like this: San Francisco-based musician Goh Nakamura (playing himself) is at the height of his career. With a national tour on the horizon and his song being featured in a national TV commercial, Goh has the life he always wanted. When his long distance girlfriend Erika (AYAKO FUJITANI) breaks up with him over Skype, Goh feels lost, as though no one could ever heal his broken heart. One night in San Francisco, he meets a fellow indie musician Yea-Ming (playing herself). Unexpectedly, Goh experiences a special connection with Yea-Ming and finds himself on a road trip with his cousin Mike (MICHAEL AKI) to see her in Las Vegas. Taylor Armstrong revealed in her memoir that her late husband, Russell, tried to drown her in a swimming pool along with two unnamed friends, and RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned their identities and confirmed that a police report was in fact filed. Jennifur Diamond and her husband at the time, Mark Alsentzer, were at Taylor and Russell’s home several years ago when he flew into a rage and badly injured Mark, but no one pressed charges because Taylor begged her BFF Jennifur not to, and both she and Mark agreed. According to Taylor’s book, Russell pretended he had left the group but was really listening to their conversation and after hearing Taylor say, “Just take care of Kennedy if anything happens,” Russell allegedly jumped out of the bushes and confronted her. “Russell was in a frenzy, and he had a wild look in his eyes. He hit Mark, and threw Jennifur, her dog and Taylor in the swimming pool and tried to drown Taylor. Taylor thought she was going to die as Russell held her under the water,” a source exclusively told RadarOnline.com. “Mark and Jennifur were able to pull Russell off of her and probably saved her life. The cops were called and a police report was filed. At that point Taylor hadn’t been receiving any therapy, and she begged and pleaded with her friends not to press charges. “Taylor had to cover her neck for several weeks because of the choke marks. She even had trouble speaking because of Russell’s strength when he tried to choke her.” Russell definitely had some loose screws, but he wasn’t about that “go-to-jail” life. “Mark got 16 stitches and had work done on his teeth because of what Russell did,” the insider said. “I can’t be sure that Russell gave them money to stay quiet, but he definitely gave them money to cover the expenses of Mark’s medical stuff which was somewhere around $12,000.” And although no charges were pressed, the incident created a temporary rift between Taylor and Jennifur, who refused to protect Taylor any longer when Russell got violent. “Jennifur was really, really upset and said that she couldn’t talk to Taylor anymore because the abusive situation was too much. They tried to get Taylor to leave Russell, but she didn’t want to give up her lifestyle,” the source said. This story just makes Taylor look even worse if you ask us. Boobs or brains? What would you choose? A substantial portion of young women in the U.K. would choose breasts over brains, according to a recent online survey. The U.K. discount website MyVoucherCodes asked 1,100 18-25-year-old women if they would trade their IQ’s for bigger breasts. One-third of respondents said they would. The survey, which was sent to The Huffington Post, also found that 41 percent of women would rather have bigger breasts than a high IQ, and 24 percent of those who preferred bigger breasts said it was because it would make them “feel happier.” In addition, 44 percent of the respondents would rather have a “slim figure” than high intelligence, with 29 percent of those women saying they felt being slim would make them feel “more confident.” The survey also suggests that the women’s preferences might have more to do with what they think men value than what they value in themselves. Fifty-seven percent of the women said they thought men would be “more interested” in them romantically if they had bigger breasts and 59 percent said they thought that, when looking for a relationship, men valued the appearance of a woman more so than her intelligence. Overall, a whopping 79 percent of women surveyed felt they were judged more by their appearance than by their intelligence. There were also economic concerns behind many of the women’s preferences. The survey found that 49 percent of the respondents believed that being “attractive” would also help a woman in her career. This is rather depressing news.
