Captain Save A Ho: Oprah’s OWN Network Is Making That Paper Thanks To Tyler Perry

Oprah’s struggling OWN network is finally getting it together. OWN Network Making Money Thanks To Tyler Perry Oprah owes Tyler all the weave on her head. OWN looked like it was down for the count like when Pac Man got knocked out by Juan Manuel Márquez. According to The NY Daily News Oh, Oprah. The revelation Tuesday that Oprah Winfrey’s struggling OWN network is finally — earlier than expected — making money came as a shock to much of the TV industry. Obviously not to Oprah herself, who has proven for decades that she is a mad genius at making money. It’s not surprising that OWN is generating cash four months earlier than projected by its parent company (Discovery Communications, whose other networks include the Discovery Channel and TLC). The surprise is the way OWN has done it. The network’s big moment comes via … Tyler Perry. Perry is as much of a genius as Oprah is at printing money, notably with the movies featuring him in drag playing Madea, a huge, hyperactive, tough old lady. He signed up last year to produce shows for OWN. Now his two series on the network — the drama “The Haves and the Have Nots” and the sitcom “Love Thy Neighbor,” both almost unanimously panned by critics — are OWN’s most-watched programs. Will you be tuning into “The Haves and Have the Nots” and “Love Thy Neighbor?”

Ride Or Die: Bad Azz 13-Year-Old Boys Set Fire To Police Station So They Could Visit Friend In Jail

Friends, how many of us have them? Friends Set Fire To Police Station Two teens in a remote Canada community are accused of torching a police station as part of a bizarre plan to get arrested and flown to a Winnipeg youth jail to visit a pal who is also currently facing arson charges, prosecutors alleged this week. Via Sun News Network : And the suspected arson case comes at a time RCMP in remote St. Theresa Point, Man., are contending with an emerging crime problem where a “gang” of youths are engaging in a destructive ritual dubbed “Bad Azz Sundays” as they mark out a weekly time to wreak havoc there, Judge Rocky Pollack heard. The boys, 13 and 14, were collared after what’s known locally as the “justice building,” leased by the RCMP from the Island Lake Tribal Council, caught fire and was destroyed just after 4 a.m. Sunday, July 21. The younger boy appeared for and was granted bail at the Manitoba Youth Centre (MYC) on Thursday. He has no record or other pending charges and is presumed innocent. Pollack was legally bound under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to give him a shot at freedom with many restrictions attached. He and his co-accused are suspected of picking the lock to the RCMP section of the side-by-side building with a paper clip then using matches and a lighter to torch paper and the back of the building, Crown attorney Courtney St. Croix said. When police caught up to the 13-year-old, he told them it was a joint arson attempt made to get out of the community and into the confines of MYC, St. Croix alleged. When these kids get out of jail, they should be forced to complete community service at the Burn Care Center Unit of several Winnipeg area hospitals, every Sunday for 6 months. The gang can now call it “Get My Life Together On Sundays.” Continue reading

Tim Allen Addresses Paula Deen Controversy, Says "N-Word" is Worse Than N–ger

Tim Allen, of all people, is weighing in on the Paula Deen scandal, and raising eyebrows himself with some controversial comments about racism. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times , Allen said he believes “politically correct” phrases to be more egregious than the actual slur at times. “[The phrase] ‘the N-word’ is worse to me than n–ger,” he said. Allen, 60, said the toned-down phrase’s very existence runs counter to how he thinks people should tackle such an emotionally charged topic. “You want to take the power away from that word so that no one is offended by it,” the comedian said of the racial slur that Deen admitted using . “If I have no intent, if I show no intent, if I clearly am not a racist,” he continued, “then how can ‘n–ger’ be bad coming out of my mouth?” “I’ve had this argument on stage a million times. I do a movie with Martin Lawrence, and pretty soon they’re referring to me, ‘Hey, my n—-r’s up.'” “So I’m the n—er if I’m around you guys but seven feet away, if I said n—er, it’s not right. It’s very confusing to the European mind how that works.” Somewhere, Rae Dawn Chong is just happy the heat is off her now. Allen kept at it when it comes to his views on the topic, recounting: “Especially if I’ve either grown up or evolved or whatever, it literally was growing up in Colorado, with Hispanics and Anglos, that’s all I remember.” “So when Paula Deen [admits her language], they go after her.” “Now we’ve gone backwards in the world.” It’s an ongoing debate that, Allen believes, sends conflicting messages. “So this debate rages in the public, but when it gets to the comedy world, we’re not even allowed to say it, and I gotta refer to it as the N-word, F-word, B-word.” “It gets all the way down the line. We’re running backwards .” In a statement to E! News, Allen addressed the obligatory, subsequent furor surrounding his interview, but did not apologize, saying simply: “If I offended anyone it wasn’t my intention.” Since Deen admitted using the term in a legal deposition, the celebrity chef has been fired by Food Network and seen her once-dominant empire battered. She’s maintained a significant bastion of support however, as many people argue that she’s being unfairly singled out or exploited by an opportunist. As for Tim Allen’s comments on the subject, tell us what you think in the comments below: Is he out of line? Or right on the nose, even if it’s taboo?

The Bachelorette Spoilers: Shocking Ending Ahead!

The web has been abuzz with The Bachelorette spoilers this month, as fans Desiree Hartsock prepares for what could be a rocky lead-up to the finale. While in the past, The Bachelor or The Bachelorette spoilers have centered around which suitor the star would pick, this year looks a bit different. Heading into the August 5 season-ender, most of the uncertainty surrounding Desiree Hartsock relates to whether she ends up engaged or heartbroken . Brooks Forester has been the favorite all season long, both among those offering spoilers and on screen. Des has even admitted she’s in love. So what’s the big twist keeping this from being a foregone conclusion? Even the producers themselves are weighing in on the unusual nature of this particular “journey” for love, and hinting that it may not end smoothly. Misleading teases that don’t come to fruition or are underwhelming in the end are standard for this show, but you don’t often hear ones like this: “All I can say is that you will be shocked by how this ends.” Straight from show-runner Mike Fleiss himself, to EW . Yes, we realize that every single week promises THE MOST DRAMATIC ROSE CEREMONY EVER, so you can take that with a boulder of salt. That said, the shot-caller adds that Hartsock’s season’s ending “doesn’t make sense in some ways,” and “It comes out of left field in other ways.” The two-part finale is “the weirdest ending we’ve ever had, for sure,” and while he won’t say if the parties involves are happy, “it sure is interesting to watch.” The Bachelorette Season Finale Preview (Part I) All season long, The Bachelorette spoilers from Reality Steve, the thorn in Fless’ side for so many years, indicate that Desiree Hartsock does get engaged. However, many suspect that something pretty big happens in the next two episodes that no one will see coming, and that could render his spoilers moot. By all accounts, he says, Drew Kenney is eliminated in third place, setting up a Chris Siegfried vs. Brooks Forester finale one week from Monday. On the season finale, Brooks allegedly proposes and Des accepts, but even the king of The Bachelorette spoilers is spotty on these next two weeks. However it ends, we can pretty much guarantee that there will be unforeseen conflict, and that it involves Brooks. The question is how, and why? In its preview for this coming Monday, ABC indicates that as Desiree is on overnight dates with Drew and Chris, Brooks is in the U.S. with his family. This is unheard of on the show, as contestants typically have no time with family before or after hometown dates, which aired two episodes ago. Brooks, the network says in its press release, is “torn between his strong feelings for Desiree when he is with her and insecurities when he is not.” A heart-to-heart with his mother and sister help inspire his confidence and “with the reassurance he needs, [Brooks] boards the plane for Antigua.” The drama doesn’t end there, though, as Brooks Forester and Chris Harrison have their own heart-to-heart and “some shocking news is shared.” Desiree and Brooks later talk this through, which leads to “one of the most explosive, dramatic, emotional moments in Bachelorette history.” Intriguing, isn’t it? How do you think it will play out?
