For one reality star, the rumors are now a, well, reality. Following last night’s Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion , Caroline Manzo took to Twiter and confirmed that she’s leaving the franchise. Caroline Manzo Versus Teresa Giudice! “It’s been wonderful guys,” Manzo wrote. “I’ve decided to leave #RHONJ this season was my last. Love and kisses to you all. xoxoxo.” Rumors of Caroline’s departure first cropped up in September, but it’s not as if she’s saying goodbye to Bravo viewers: the network has signed Manzo to a spinoff hilariously titled Manzo’d with Children . But Manzo insists she isn’t leaving for her own fortune or fame. This move is all about integrity. “Over the past few years my outlook on the show has changed from something I couldn’t wait to show my future grandchildren to something I hope my future grandchildren never see,” she blogged, later adding: “For me, peace and integrity cannot be bought with money or fame… I simply feel that my role has run its course and I have nothing more to give.” Manzo was one of the program’s original cast members and will likely be missed by many viewers. For some reason.
Kelly Clarkson may have been joking around in her critique of the MTV Video Music Awards as including too many pitchy strippers , but The Parents Television Council does not see this as a laughing matter. In a scathing rebuke of the network and the event, the PTC released a statement today that focused on a rating that somehow claimed the show was appropriate for kids as young as 14. “MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials – while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable,” wrote PTC Director of Public Policy Dan Isett. “This much is absolutely clear: MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children.” As you might expect, the main subjects of the PTC’s outage were Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga . Continued the press release: “MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘ twerking ’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds? How is it appropriate for children to watch Lady Gaga strip down to a bikini in the opening act? How is it appropriate for 14-year-olds to see a condom commercial and a promo for an R-rated movie during the first commercial break?” The statement goes on to say MTV should not get away with such acts merely because it is a cable network – and it includes a call to action. “We urge Congress to pass the Television Consumer Freedom Act which will give parents and consumers a real solution for future MTV VMA programs – the ability to choose and pay for cable networks that they want vs. having to pay for networks they don’t want. After MTV’s display last night, it’s time to give control back to consumers.” The PTC has previously come down on MTV for such programs as Jersey Shore, 16 and Pregnant, and Teen Mom.

The Royalty Exchange said Thursday that it is auctioning off the full song portfolio of the five-time Grammy winner, including his chart-topping hit, “Gangsta’s Paradise” from the film “Dangerous Minds.” The auction will begin at noon ET on Aug. 28, ending at 2 p.m. ET the following day. Let the bidding begin at $140,000. Coolio is selling the catalogue to help kick off his second career — cooking. Following an appearance on Food Network’s “Celebrity Chefs,” the rapper became a New York Times bestselling-author with 2009′s “Cookin’ with Coolio.” The entrepreneur plans to invest the funds from the song catalog sale to expand his cookbook series and his online cooking show of the same name. Oprah Winfrey Says She Was On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown Tyler deserves a humanitarian of the year award, because without him performing a captain save a ho with “The Haves And Have Nots,” Oprah would have had that nervous breakdown. According to The Toronto Sun Media mogul Oprah Winfrey forced herself to take a step back from her heavy workload last summer after realizing she was on the brink of a nervous breakdown as she struggled to turn her TV network into a success. The TV icon walked away from her hit talk show in May, 2011, after 25 years at the top, to focus on the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) with bosses from cable company Discovery Communications. However, the channel struggled to attract viewers in its first year on air and Winfrey was forced to take a serious look at reshuffling its programming line-up in order to appeal to audiences. The superstar admits she was really feeling the pressure to turn OWN’s fortunes around, but it was only when she interviewed Jason Russell, the man behind the high-profile KONY 2012 campaign, about his emotional breakdown which led to his bizarre naked rant and arrest last year, that she recognized she was experiencing similar mental issues. She tells People magazine, “Jason was talking about having a nervous breakdown, and I was thinking, ‘I have those symptoms’.” Winfrey’s breaking point came just days later as she headed into the OWN headquarters in Los Angeles to record voice-overs for her shows: “I remember closing my eyes while I was reading. I thought, ‘I cannot have another thing enter my brain.’ I needed to pull back.” She confesses the harsh press criticism of her network hit her hard, and she credits her longterm partner, Stedman Graham, with helping her soldier on to overcome the disappointing start. She says, “After 25 years of being number one, I had become accustomed to success. I didn’t expect failure. I was tested and I had to dig deep. The schadenfreude (pleasure from misfortune of others) was very painful for me, because I had never experienced it. “(Graham) was amazing. He said, ‘You can’t eve think about quitting. You have been in cruise control. It’s gonna turn around, but you’ve gotta do the work.’” Now that OWN is a success, will you be tuning in?
In a study undoubtedly commissioned by a man, new findings determine that those who have sex at least four times per week make more money than those who come down with “headaches” on a frequent basis. This conclusion has been drawn in a paper (“The Effects of Sexual Activity on Wages”) by Nick Drydakis, a fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor. Study: More Sex, More Money He looked into a year-long survey of 7,500 Greek households that asked such questions as: How many times a week do you get it on? How much do you make? How many hours do you work? Based on the answers, Drydakis concluded that frisky individuals are happier and possess high self-esteem… and these are the kinds of people who bring in the major bucks. Granted, the causation may actually be reversed: those who make a lot of money may feel good about themselves and may therefore feel more desirable at home. Moreover, raises typically occur earlier in life, as one makes one’s way up the ladder at work – and this could also correlate with one’s sexual prime. But still. Give Drydakis a break, people. He’s trying to do men everywhere a favor here and we applaud him for it.

The Duck Dynasty Season 4 premiere drew record ratings for A&E last night, as 11.8 million viewers tuned in, making the episode the most-watched nonfiction hour in the history of basic cable. And making David McKillop – General Manager and Executive Vice President of the network – one happy man. Actually, a single “happy” doesn’t cover it. Duck Dynasty Season 4 Premiere Highlights “Thanks to its authentic and engaging characters ‘Duck Dynasty’ has become more than just a reality show, it is a cultural phenomenon,” said McKillop in a statement. “We would like to thank the Robertsons for their incredible partnership. We are all Happy, Happy, Happy.” The premiere was also viewed by 6.3 million adults in the key advertiser demographic of 18-49, yet another basic cable record. Duck Dynasty Life Lessons Perhaps Willie Robertson should reconsider a run for Congress. He’ll never be more popular than he is right now. Or perhaps we’ll be proven wrong: a new episode of Duck Dynasty will airs Wednesday night at 10. Who knows how high these numbers could climb?
It’s a whole new View on ABC. Days after Joy Behar was showered with kisses on her final episode, the network has released a promotional photo for the Season 17 cast, which, of course, will include Jenny McCarthy as new program panelist. She was confirmed as the replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck on July 15. Gushed McCarthy upon being named co-host: “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table. I’d like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I’d also like to give a big thank you to VH1 for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.” However, not everyone is excited about this blonde joining the series. The Real Housewives of New Jersey heads back to the Teresa and Jacqueline summit as the “Children of the Scorned” try to patch up their friendship. We recap the tattered remains in our THG +/- review. After last week where Teresa called Jacqueline evil and Jac shot back with calling Tre a sociopath, I was expecting more from this summit meaning. Minus 15 because instead of a cat fight it was a giant snooze fest. I don’t think anyone really owned up to anything from the past, they just decided to move on. How long will it be before it all falls apart once again? The worst part was having to hear Joe Guidice talk about autism once again. Minus 12 because the ignorant meter was spiking off the charts. But then again, if we kept Joe to speaking about subjects he actually understood, it wouldn’t give him much air time. The Jerseyans seemed to be trying to make amends all over. Joe Gorga picked up Gia for a play date. Did anyone else notice how Teresa’s kids were climbing the two story foyer like a bunch of monkeys and her only concern was for the chandelier? Minus 10 . But Gia appeared to be the most mature person in the Guidice / Gorga clan as she told her uncle exactly what she thought of him and his tirade at the christening. Plus 30 for not sugar coating it. It’s sad that Joe doesn’t even remember Gia being in the room and the kid was between he and Teresa trying to drag her mother out of the fray. Back to the present, plus 20 to Teresa for her Zumba charity day to help The Nephcure Foundation and another plus 20 for everyone who came out and joined it. Two weeks ago, could anyone have guessed that the brawling Joes would be dancing and laughing on the Zumba floor? And as they all tried to get alone, a big plus 33 for all of the old pictures of happier times. How can anyone not laugh at giant Jersey ’80s hair? Of course some things about this family will never change. Joe Guidice asked Melissa Gorga to dance on the pole in the bus and Milania started swinging around pretending to be her aunt. Apparently the ex-stripper rumors were still alive and well in the Guidice household. At least they all seemed to be having more fun than the Manzo boys who were still trying to sell blk. Minus 13 because who in their right mind would want to drink water that looks like it came out of a sewage pipe? The worst was listening to Christopher fantasize about how he’ll cheat on his future wife. Minus 22. Have we ever even seen him with a girl, never mind in any sort of serious relationship? Their buddy Greg is heading off to San Francisco and Christopher admits he doesn’t think he’d ever have the guts to leave Jersey. Plus 8 for honesty. Jacqueline was the biggest surprise of the night as she flew out to Beverly Hills for a tummy tuck and a neck lift.. Seeing her pieces of fat and skin sitting on the surgical tray were kind of gross but plus 12 for getting rid of that crappy tattoo. Plus 35 to Ashlee who moved to California and actually grew the F-up! I never saw that coming but it looks like getting away from Mom was the best thing that could have happened to her. She even told Jacqueline when it was time to put down the shot glass. Go figure. So will you be tuning in next week to see the new and improved Jacqueline? Episode total = +86! Season total = -315!
The winners are in for the 2013 Teen Choice Awards. Pitch Perfect won for favorite movie comedy, and the film’s co-stars Rebel Wilson and Skylar Astin won for choice actress and actor in a comedy. Wilson accepted her award while wearing a wetsuit. On the TV side, The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars carried out similar sweeps, while Lea Michele made her first public appearance since Cory Monteith’s death. Her tearful tribute on stage was a highlight of the night. Other winners included Selena Gomez, Gabby Douglas, Jim Parsons, Bruno Mars, Sandra Bullock, Justin Bieber, The X Factor and One Direction.
