Duck Dynasty Cast to A&E: No Phil Robertson, No Show!

The Duck Dynasty cast released a statement in support of suspended star Phil Robertson, implying that they can’t go forward with the show without him. “We are in discussions with A&E to see what [this] means for the future of Duck Dynasty,” the family statement said of Phil Robertson’s suspension . “We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm.” Duck Dynasty Cast Issues Statement, Stands By Phil Robertson The family defended Robertson’s comments and stressed that they are a “family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word.” “While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible,” the family said. “Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “Phil would never incite or encourage hate.” The Robertson family said it has “spent much time in prayer” since learning A&E had suspended Phil over anti-gay comments he made in GQ . The family also criticized A&E for its actions , saying he was placed on hiatus “for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.” Indeed, he sparked a national debate on religion and tolerance in an interview in which the reporter asked him what he considered to be sinful behavior. The 67-year-old Robertson, who fans of the show know is very religious, said: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” The Duck Commander found then paraphrased Paul’s letter to the Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes. the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers …” “They won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” Whatever you think of Robertson’s comments, they drew immediate condemnation from gay rights groups who pressured the network to take action. On Wednesday, A&E announced Phil was suspended indefinitely, saying: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty.” “His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.” “The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.” A&E’s decision to pull Robertson from the hit show drew strong support from the gay and lesbian rights groups, but criticism from many others. Duck Dynasty drew 11.8 million viewers in August for its Season 4 premiere, making it the highest rated cable series EVER … and fans aren’t happy. Not just because they like the show, either. They’ve made him a cause celebre. Phil Robertson Suspension, Anti-Gay Backlash Duck Dynasty: Phil Robertson Under Attack Over Anti-Gay Comments Many public figures, including Glenn Beck , accuse the network of discrimination, violating Phil’s religious beliefs and violating his First Amendment rights. A&E is private company, of course, and can fire whomever its wants … the question is whether the network will forgive, forget and deal with the backlash. If they bring Phil back, the cast will likely resume filming, and many fans will be pleased, yet certain factions of the population will likely be upset. If they don’t, others will be upset. Clearly, A&E is up against it right here. YOU TELL US: Should Phil Robertson have been suspended?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! View Poll » Should A&E pull the plug on Duck Dynasty?   Yes. There’s no going back from this low point … No! Bring back Phil and quack on! View Poll »

Republicans to Boycott CNN, NBC 2016 Presidential Debates Over Hillary Clinton Features?

The Republican National Committee has voted to boycott any presidential debates on CNN and NBC if they proceed with their planned Hillary Clinton TV features. RNC Votes to Boycott Debates Over Clinton TV Specials With no audible dissent, GOP officials approved a resolution backing the position on the debates at their annual summer meeting in Boston on Friday. The RNC says a Clinton documentary and miniseries – in the works over at CNN and NBC, respectively – will put a “thumb on the scales” in 2016. The draft resolution, obtained by Fox News in advance and later voted on by RNC officials, calls these “political ads masked as unbiased entertainment.” Basically, the RNC believes CNN and NBC are Hillary 2016 co-chairs. If those programs appear on the networks, Republicans will not. “The RNC will neither partner with these networks in the 2016 presidential primary debates nor sanction any primary debates they sponsor,” the group says. Before the vote, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus decried what he called the “obvious bias” of a network that would spotlight Clinton in this fashion: “CNN and NBC anchors will just have to watch on their competitors’ networks . The media overplayed their hand this time. We’re done putting up with this nonsense.” “There are plenty of other outlets. We’ll still reach voters, maybe more voters.” The resolution claims the programming by CNN and NBC would show “political favoritism” in the election and jeopardize the credibility of the networks. Last month, CNN Films announced it was producing a documentary on Hillary Clinton to premiere next year, first in theaters and then on CNN. NBC also announced a four-hour Hillary miniseries starring Diane Lane, on the life of the former Secretary of State and First Lady of the United States.

Kidd Kraddick Dies; Radio & TV Host Was 53

Kidd Kraddick, a radio and TV host heard on dozens of stations nationwide, has died. The “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” personality was just 53. The Texas-based personality (real name David Kraddick) died at his Kidd’s Kids charity function in the New Orleans suburb of Gretna on Saturday. Publicist Ladd Biro confirmed the news in a network statement. “He died doing what he loved ,” said Biro, of the PR firm Champion Management, early Sunday, declining to offer any further details on the death. “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” is heard on more than 75 Top 40 and Hot AC radio stations and is a leader among the most-listened-to programs. The show also is transmitted globally on American Forces Radio Network. “All of us with YEA Networks and the “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader,” his employer’s statement said. “Kidd devoted his life to making people smile every morning, and for 21 years his foundation has been dedicated to bringing joy to thousands of chronically and terminally ill children.” “He died doing what he loved, and his final day was spent selflessly focused on those special children that meant the world to him,” it added.

Maria Shriver: Returning to Today Show?

Is Maria Shriver returning to the Today show? That’s the rumor going after the former NBC fixture reported from the Vatican on the program this week, leading the network to explore a permanent deal. The question is whether she’s interested. Maria may tease (and give a ratings boost) to NBC by coming on occasionally for big stories like the Papal coverage , but beyond that, her role is unclear. Shriver has turned down overtures from NBC and other networks in the past, and simply may not want a daily gig because she doesn’t need the money. The former wife of Arnold Schwarzengger is deeply invested in her charity work and raising their four kids, and has a net worth of at least $100 million. Basically, she’s reluctant to get back into the daily grind of TV news, no matter how badly NBC might want her to replace Matt Lauer ‘s tanking Q rating. Exhale, Matt.

Quote Of The Day: Jimmie “JJ” Walker Says ‘Black People Need To Stop Complaining’

Jimmie Walker , who is best known for his role on “Good Times” spoke to NPR on various topics including black folks in the entertainment industry. Via EurWeb: Former “Good Time’s” star, Jimmie Walker, chatted with NPR’s Michele Martin recently to discuss his position on why major studios would rather avoid black films. According to him, the community protests too frequently about the stereotypes projected on film. But he argues that some of the stereotypes that some argue appear bad, aren’t necessarily negative. “What happens is, it also is reflective in black TV shows and movies, that you’re not gonna get anymore of those because of the constant complaining, moaning and groaning… The point is to make money,” he said. “And therefore, the networks themselves have actually stopped doing any ethnic shows, because they don’t want the aggravation… What has happened is that any minority character you see on a show now is always the police commissioner, the head of the hospital, the school superintendent. Those kinds of people don’t invoke followers. The people who are going to get attention are the wacky guys… who eventually become stars… You’ll never see a black Will Ferrell, You’ll never see a black Adam Sandler, because black people aren’t allowed to play those kind of roles.” CHeck out the entire interview at NPR.org: WENN

James Cameron Saves World From Honey Boo Boo On South Park

” James Cameron is who James Cameron is because James Cameron does what James Cameron does.”  At least I think that’s what James Cameron’s doppelganger said on Wednesday night’s new episode of South Park after diving into the depths to “raise the bar” and save the world from Honey Boo Boo and fat people who terrorize the world on motorized scooters. While President Obama debated Mitt Romney on the networks, Michelle Obama made a cameo appearance in a wonderfully meta episode of the Comedy Central series in which the Avatar , Titanic and Terminator director — who last spring dived to the bottom of the deepest place on earth, the Marianas Trench in the Pacific Ocean — took it upon himself to save the world from the cultural nadir established by Honey Boo Boo (whose consumption of “sketti and butter” and other craptastic food necessitates her being fitted with a pig’s heart in the episode). For those who listen to NPR and still read the New York Times , Honey Boo Boo is the nickname of ultra-zaftig child beauty pageant oddity Alana Thompson, who has her own show on TLC, which, believe it or not, stands for The Learning Channel. As South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone indicated in Wednesday night’s episode, Honey Boo Boo’s emergence in the culture has lowered the bar even farther than President Bill Clinton’s oral sexcapades with Monica Lewinsky. The good news is that after Cameron saves the dignity of our culture, he instructs the crew of Team Cameron to “Set a course for the set of Avatar 2!” Now that’s what we call N’avi-gation ! Rick Ross and Young Jeezy Brawl at BET Awards; Shots Possibly Fired

Rick Ross and Young Jeezy got seriously into it at the BET Hip Hop Awards last night, with sources even telling TMZ shots were fired between the parties in the parking lot after the ceremony. Here is what reportedly went down: The rappers verbally and then physically assaulted each other backstage, forcing BET security and bodyguards for both to step in and separate the rivals. The altercation then spilled into the parking lot, though reports differ on what went down from there. A spokes person for the Atlanta Police Department confirms that “shortly after 7:15 pm Saturday, a fight broke out in the parking lot at the Atlanta Civic Center between two groups. “Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue.” HOWEVER, a TMZ insider maintains that a member of Ross’ entourage did, indeed, pull out a gun and fire it at least once. 50 Cent also allegedly didn’t get along well weigh some rapper named Gunplay at the event. Says a BET rep, vaguely, about the various incidents: “Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

Sigourney Weaver In For 4 Avatars

James Cameron recently said he is Avatar -bound and Sigourney Weaver said she will appear in what will be Avatar 2, 3, 4, confirming that the Titanic director is still on track with the franchise, which made over $2 billion worldwide in its first mammoth installment, which debuted back in December, 2009. Production will apparently begin on the back to back installments this fall, Weaver told Showbiz 411 . The actress has stints in USA Networks’ Political Animals followed by a short-run play at New York’s Lincoln Center and then dives in on Avatar 2 – 4 with Cameron. Weaver noted that she does not know the time frame for the sequels to the 3-D behemoth, “I just show up.” James Cameron made headlines in March for reaching the furthest depth of the ocean, the Mariana Trench, which is nearly seven miles below the surface of the Pacific near Guam. “I’ve divided my time over the last 16 years over deep ocean exploration and filmmaking. I’ve made two movies in 16 years, and I’ve done eight expeditions,” he told The New York Times in May. He also noted that he had closed his production company and is devoting the movie-side of his career to Avatar exclusively. “I’m not interested in developing anything. I’m in the “Avatar” business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3 , maybe Avatar 4 , and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts.” He did note, however, he will also do documentaries about his deep-sea exploration, the first of which should be out next year.
