Universal Chief Ron Meyer Addresses VOD Fiasco, Admits Cowboys & Aliens, Land of the Lost, Wolfman Kinda Stunk

Of the major Universal Studios flops in recent memory, a handful stand out for their massive, and high profile, box office failings: 2009’s Sid and Marty Krofft adaptation Land of the Lost , 2010’s abysmal Wolfman and geek cult film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World , and this summer’s megawatt disappointment Cowboys & Aliens . No one, it seems, is more painfully aware of Universal’s missteps than longtime studio head Ron Meyer, who candidly addressed his recent Tower Heist VOD experiment , revisited his rise through the ranks to the top of the Universal chain, and admitted Wednesday in Savannah that some mediocre movies deserve their fate: “We make a lot of shitty movies. Every one of them breaks my heart.”

REVIEW: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas Throws Off a Few Sparks, Then Fizzles

The great news about A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas is that it features some of the most original 3-D effects this side of Avatar : Raw-egg splatter comin’ right at ya, shockeroo Claymation penises that’ll rock your world, nativity Jesuses blasting into the sky and lots of mystical-looking marijuana smoke wafting straight off the screen and into your very own lungs, visually speaking at least.

A “Family” Reunion: Brandy Has Signed On To Play Kimmy Cakes Co-Worker In Tyler Perry’s New Flick!!

This is going to be VERY interesting!! Brandy has been added to the cast of Tyler Perry’s next movie, The Marriage Counselor! Brandy revealed the exciting news that she is working on The Marriage Counselor, which has already begun production in Atlanta. “First day on the set of Tyler Perry’s new movie “The Marriage Counselor”!!! God is sooooooo Good!!!” she tweeted. The Marriage Counselor will star Jurnee Smollett as a newlywed counselor, who has trouble following her own advice and staying faithful. According to Variety.com, Lance Gross will play her hubby and Robbie Jones will play her man on the side. Brandy has signed on to play Lance’s co-worker, while Vanessa Williams has been cast as Jurnee’s boss. The role may put Brandy in an uncomfortable situation as Kim Kardashian, her brother’s ex-girlfriend, has also been cast in the film as Jurnee’s co-worker Ava. However, it’s not clear whether they will ever be on set together. Beyond that neither Tyler nor Kim has commented on her spot in The Marriage Counselor cast since she announced her divorce from Kris Humphries. Tyler, you little devil you! Way to make a built-in hype machine for your movie, well played… Source

Todd Phillips’ Crazy Project X Trailer: Party of the Century/Apocalypse

Todd Phillips doesn’t feel like directing the new Hangover right now, so he’s taking time to helm a cray-zay party movie where a self-declared “uncool” kid throws the bash of the century. Cars jump into pools! Music blares! Girls lick on some popsicles under Fiona Apple “Criminal” lighting! Parents call to make sure everything is going OK. It’s like a grittier version of Blank Check . I’ve been waiting for this since ’94.

Watch Kermit and Miss Piggy Out-Act WWE Stars In Awkward Muppets Throwdown

Following in Hugh Jackman’s Real Steel -shilling footsteps , the Muppets headed over to the WWE’ s Monday Night Raw last night to promote their upcoming movie. Only instead of providing six minutes worth of awkward, forced film promotion , the fuzzy characters brought their own brand of innocence and (what appears to be) some of their own writing to the ring. Surprisingly, Muppets meet Monday Night Raw almost worked…when the inanimate Jim Henson gang wasn’t out-acting WWE’ s regulars.

Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard Reportedly in Negotiations to Star in Lovelace

Lovelace , the Linda Lovelace biopic that both Olivia Wilde and Kate Hudson were rumored to topline (as opposed to the other Lovelace biopic, which traded in Lindsay Lohan for Malin Akerman), may have new leads in Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard. The legendary porn actress Lovelace would mark a shift for the In Time / Mean Girls star, and Sarsgaard’s potential role as her husband/pimp Chuck Traynor is just as dramatic a turn. Can we just agree to make this thing and stop recasting it for the next five years? Thanks. [ Variety ]

James Mangold Compares The Wolverine to Chinatown and The Outlaw Josey Wales

James Mangold was just as apprehensive as the rest of you when the idea of a Wolverine movie fell into his lap — so much so that he spoke with predecessor Darren Aronofsky, who was originally set to direct, before taking on the project. So what enticed him to take the helm on the Hugh Jackman -starring X-Men spin-off, anyways? And how exactly will it evoke such American classics as Chinatown and Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales ?
