Watch Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz in the Dream House Trailer: Dead Again

Daniel Craig is the sort of mensch who I’d like to believe can do wrong. Unfortunately, when you’re in everything , infallibility is not an option. The new trailer for Dream House , the sepia-postered film exhibits a few contrivances that I’d expect from — well, a by-the-book psychodrama with a September release date. But I admit, the trailer is entertaining, even if it’s a note-for-note reiteration of a movie that came out almost 10 years ago to this day.

Watch the First Trailer for Vera Farmiga’s Directorial Debut Higher Ground

Higher Ground comes with a wealth of advanced praise. Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut about a woman going through a spiritual coming of age in the ’60s premiered at Sundance to rave reviews, and the new trailer is packed to the gills with pull-quotes and flowery adjectives. Engrossing! Haunting! Startlingly Bold! Sounds great. Which is what makes the trailer so disappointing — this doesn’t really look like the work of the next great voice in American filmmaking, does it?

Winona Ryder, James Franco Set for Mind-Warping Drama The Stare

An artist struggles with her latest work, haunted by paranoid visions to the point that she questions her sanity. Is it just us, or does Winona Ryder’s next film, The Stare , sound a little — okay, a lot — like her last film, Black Swan ? Fine. Black Swan didn’t also have James Franco portraying some sort of performer. That doesn’t sound familiar, either.

The Help Trailer: Maid in Mississippi

Recently released stills of Dreamworks’s The Help looked stern, but the new trailer for the film stamps smiles on Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Emma Stone’s faces. But is this film set in early ’60s Mississippi too lighthearted to convey racial tensions without that Blind Side soupcon of condescension?

DVD: 1970s British TV Classics Ain’t What They Used to Be

The timing certainly couldn’t be better for the new Upstairs Downstairs : Complete Series box (now available from Acorn Media). The landmark British series about an aristocratic family and the servants who feed and clean them celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, there’s a new reboot of the show premiering this Sunday on PBS, and the success of last year’s Downton Abbey , of which Upstairs is a direct predecessor, whetted viewers’ appetite to revisit the show. Whether or not Upstairs Downstairs actually lives up to its reputation, however, is another matter entirely.
