The New Kung Fu Panda 2 Trailer: Not Enough Jean-Claude Van Damme

It’s a good week to be an animation fan, what with Rango garnering rave reviews and a new trailer for the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots hitting the web. (Unless, like me, you caught the Puss in Boots teaser in theaters at midnight in front of the aptly-named Beastly . Not a smart life choice, in retrospect.) But what mystical, family-friendly, Eastern-influenced laughs await us in the new trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2 ?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt And Rainn Wilson Not Very Happy With This Fake Hesher Trailer

A trailer for the upcoming Natalie Portman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rainn Wilson flick Hesher has been making the rounds online, and Levitt and Wilson are none too happy. It appears this new trailer is not in fact from the studio or producers and, according to the stars, completely misrepresents the movie. On the bright side, at least people are talking about the flick that premiered over a year ago.

Full Insidious Trailer is Mostly Coherent, Actually Pretty Creepy

The first teaser for Saw director James Wan’s new haunted person movie Insidious relied heavily on the technique most horror movie trailers (As well as every film Saw series) overuse: Flash-cutting tons of imagery together with noises and music that practically scream: “Be scared right now!” But look! This new trailer actually contains some tension, build-up and slow reveals! And it’s pretty scary!

On DVD: 11 Ways to Remember the Late, Great Claude Chabrol

One of the great lions of the French New Wave — and famously the most Hitchcockian of the tribe — Claude Chabrol went the way of all flesh this weekend at the age of 80, leaving scores of must-sees behind, plenty of them on DVD. Unlike his compatriots, Chabrol got off to a slow start, and his late films are some of his best…

Dustin Lance Black on What’s Wrong With Virginia, Mormon Underwear and Polarizing Toronto

Despite the most spirited endorsement of yours truly, Dustin Lance Black’s directorial debut What’s Wrong With Virginia hasn’t found the warmest reaction this week at the Toronto Film Festival. This has been a bit confounding to Black, whose follow-up to his Oscar-winning screenplay for Milk tells the wild tale of mentally ill Virginia (Jennifer Connelly), her teenage son (Harrison Gilbertson), her Mormon sheriff/Senate candidate paramour Dick Tipton (Ed Harris), and the small-town cauldron of love, sex, longing, desperation and hypocrisy from which each attempts to climb on the way to a bigger, better life. Whatever that is — each has a different conception, as does Black himself, who today spoke with Movieline about the Canadian cold front and what isn’t as wrong with Virginia as some might think.

My Soul to Take Trailer: Wes Craven’s Scream 4 Warmup

It’s been five years since Wes Craven last directed a film (the solid little Rachel McAdams thriller Red Eye ), and sixteen years since he directed one that he wrote himself ( Wes Craven’s New Nightmare ). The new My Soul to Take ends both of those droughts, but the new trailer isn’t exactly thirst-quenching.
