Star Soldier: Doom Star, Book 1

Hard SF is hard to find these days. This is the real deal. We learn how much more radiation one is exposed to on one side of Mercury#39;s orbit vs. the other in the first few pages, for example. But it isn#39;t all technobabble, the characters are very human and having a very hard time of it. What#39;s even more unusual about this book is it#39;s military Hard SF, even more rare. We are taken into a grim, not-so-distant future where Earth is in the hands of a single political party and those wh

World War Z: The Complete Edition Review

I was one of many who heard about Max Brooks#39; satirical guide book The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead. Being a huge fan of George A. Romero#39;s Dead series of films and just the zombie subgenre in general, I was intrigued by the release of this guidebook. From the first page to the last I was impressed, entertained, and hooked on Brooks#39; serio-comic take on how to survive a zombie outbreak. One section of the book which really caught my interest and has re

The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia [Ha Review

This book is almost too awesome for me to put into words. I’ve long been a fan of the Legend of Zelda. It is not only my personal favorite video game series, but arguably the greatest series in video gaming, period. When this book released in Japan for Zelda’s 25 year anniversary, many hoped it would get translated and come to the States. Thankfully, our wish has been granted. This book is about as high-quality as they come. The opening letter from Shigeru Miyamoto sets a wonderful, celebrato

The Honest Life: Living Naturally and Tr Review

I lived blissfully unaware of just how bad so many of our products are until my youngest was born and we discovered he had vicious allergies and asthma right from the start. It took going through a lot of doctors to find anyone even remotely interested in finding the problem instead of just masking symptoms with chemical creams and steroids. And this was back before allergens had to be clearly listed on labels. I spent countless sleepless nights on research and turning my house and our lives

PowerGen 2.1Amps / 10W Dual USB Car char

This product has two major issues:1. While it’s description claims it has a 2 Amp port and a 1 Amp port, the reality is that it has bridged the two ports and it can only source 2 Amps total. It is not capable of delivering 3 Amps combined like the description implicitly claims and could never simultaneously charge an iPad and a smart phone. (UPDATE: The technical details section now indicates more clearly the 2A total, which is appreciated.)2. The 2 Amp port appears to be using the Apple p

Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem review

I have tried both the SB6120 and the SB6121 and the signal levels and speeds were the same on both. The SB6121 is a little smaller than the SB6120 but runs much warmer than the SB6120. Looks like they tried to cram too much hardware into too small of a space. My SB6121 did not come with the power save button (it#39;s listed as an optional feature), so about the only difference between the two models is the design. Both the SB6120 and the SB6121 use the same firmware: labeled SB612X. So unless

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 review 7-Inch

I have a Kindle Fire and do enjoy using it (for the most part) — love the form factor, enjoy the apps that I can get for it and am very pleased with the Kindle eReader app and ability to share books across all our Kindles. But when we were offered an opportunity to check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 a few days early, we jumped at the chance. The Kindle Fire is great at what it does, but its custom Android O/S, non-standard Web browser, limited selection of apps, lack of expandable storage and

VIZIO VA19LHDTV10T 19-Inch ECO 720p LCD HDTV reviews

Reviews By Gregory R. Zars Vizio has, for some time, been making the best #39;cheap#39; LCD TVs available. This 19″ LCD HDTV is by far the best one I have seen under $200 today. I looked around for quite some time. This blows away the comparable priced Dynex and Westinghouse TVs, and it holds its own against the Samsungs and Sharps of the world that are at least $100 more. It has plenty of inputs, and HD signals look impressive on it. Also, I thought non-hd analog and digital also looked good on
