A man recently saved his dog from a sinking ship, which would be cause for viral fame in itself … but then there’s the fact that he went back for his wife afterward. Man Saves Dog (Then Wife) From Sinking Ship Graham Anley and his wife, Cheryl, recently found their yacht sinking after it collided with a reef while on a voyage from East London to Madagascar. National Sea Rescue Institute station commander Geoff McGregor said all three survivors – man, wife and Jack Russell terrier – were wearing life jacket: “As the crash happened Graham sent a Mayday radio distress call and activated the EPIRB (a GPS beacon) but they were immediately forced to abandon ship.” “He first swam Rosie (the dog) ashore safely before returning for his wife, whose safety line had snagged on the steering gear,” McGregor added. Key details have yet to emerge, so it’s very possible – even likely – that Cheryl was in a position of relative safety and Rosie might have been in grave danger. The couple and their dog all made it out free of injury, which is the most important thing, and given his background, he may have known he had it under control. Graham, a longtime volunteer with the National Sea Rescue Institute himself, said it was “humbling to have the shoe on the other foot and need to be rescued.” The couple did not want to speak with the media about their rescue beyond that, so it’s left to readers to speculate about Graham’s priorities during the ordeal.
