A couple of the loudest voices in the Republican party have spoken out this week on the issue of gay marriage. First, Bill O’Reilly came out and sounded very much like a marriage equality advocate, saying all legal arguments were on the side of homosexuals in this debate. Now, Rush Limbaugh has sounded a very different tone, admitting that gay marriage is “inevitable,” but blaming Democrats for how they have messed with the important language of the topic. “I don’t care what the Supreme Court does, this is now inevitable,” Limbaugh said of the the Prop 8 deliberation . “And it’s inevitable because we lost the language on this.” You may need to expound on that one, Rush. “I maintain to you that we lost the issue when we started allowing the word ‘marriage’ to be bastardized and redefined by simply adding words to it,” the radio host said. “Because marriage is one thing, and it was not established on the basis of discrimination. It wasn’t established on the basis of denying people anything. Marriage is not a tradition that a bunch of people concocted to be mean to other people with. But we allowed the left to have people believe that it was structured that way.” Limbaugh is fine giving same-sex couples the “rights of contract or inheritance or hospital visits.” But he’s focused on the definition of marriage , seemingly trying to walk a line between softening his stance on gays and maintaining what he believes to be a moral high ground, concluding: “Instead of maintaining that and holding fast to that [definition], we allowed the argument to be made that the definition needed to change, on the basis that we’re dealing with something discriminatory, bigoted, and all of these mystical things that it’s not and never has been.” If you think he’s worked up now, don’t get Limbaugh started on Beyonce!

Under fire from the Twitterverse and other TV analysts, Doug Gottlieb has issued an apology for his “white man” joke last night. What the heck is wrong with Amanda Bynes ? No, seriously. The actress’ behavior has bordered on bizarre for about a year now, but reached a fever pitch this month with Twitter talk of Drake murdering her vagina . It’s not just Bynes’ weird Tweets, either. Far from it. She’s been charged with a DUI and a couple of hit-and-runs. Last year, neighbors complained that the star’s Southern California home was “dilapidated.” She’s begun to isolate herself from the community. Amanda Bynes has gotten face piercings, looked “zoned out” during a solo trip to a club, walked around a tanning salon nude (allegedly), and so on. But why? And what does all of this mean for her? It could be nothing at all. Stars are eccentric. Stars act out, looking for attention. But her behavior could also be indicatives of mental issues, or sleep deprivation. “What happens with a lot of these celebrities is that, first of all they are exhausted,” clinical psychiatrist Mark Goulston tells E! “Their lives are exhausting .” “When you are sleep deprived, you get a little crazy.” There’s also substance abuse. A celebrity may also, sometimes, “self medicate,” though it should be noted that Bynes has publicly denied that she drinks. The bottom line is that no one knows. Even those close to her. Family has tried to bring her back to L.A. to no avail. Her own agent hasn’t heard from her. Until Bynes speaks for herself in depth, all her fans can do is stay glued to her Twitter and hope she’s okay … and be glad in a sense that she’s in NYC. No need for a car in that city.
Oscar Pistorius won a battle in court today, but his rep followed it up by assuring the public: The Olympian and suspected killer will NOT be attempting to win any track and field races in the near future. A judge eased the runner’s bail restrictions this morning, giving Pistorius permission to leave the country in order to perform his sport. The 26-year old sprinter would simply need to run those plans by officials at least a week prior to any event. However… “Oscar does not intend to compete,” his rep said in a statement. “He merely challenged the travel restrictions imposed, since he was not considered a flight risk during the bail hearing. At this point in time there are no plans for him to travel at all.” Pistorius is accused of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp by firing multiple shots through the bathroom door behind which she was hiding. A photo of an Olive Garden receipt – for a free meal given to a family shaken up by a house fire – was shared on Reddit as a simple act of human kindness. Now it’s been picked apart and accused of being a sham. “My brother, wife, 3-year-old daughter and I went to Olive Garden after a recent house fire at my parents,” Reddit user Tanek42 wrote on the site Tuesday. “When the manager asked how everything was, my daughter said, ‘Grandpa’s house burned down.’ We talked for a bit. Here’s how we received the bill.” Total balance due: $0.00. While a few people responded with kudos for the OG manager, many more were skeptical, alleging that this was actually some viral marketing effort. “Why does it say “Duplicate Receipt – Stored Order”? Is this an indication that this is a copy of the receipt, and it may be the manager posting this?” asked one user. Others pointed out that the OG logo was a little too perfectly placed. Before long, the man, or “OP [original poster]” stood accused of working for a company called Grey Worldwide, which is OG’s advertising agency. The image, and the outrage, quickly went viral, prompting Olive Garden’s parent company, Darden, to defend itself and its customers from hoax theories. “The receipt is real and was posted by the guests, not by anyone at Olive Garden or Darden,” said Tara Gray, communication manager for Darden. “We are always looking for ways to surprise and delight guests, and this was one of the ways the Olive Garden team in Vernon Hills, Ill., did that last weekend.” Darden’s marketing firm, Grey Worldwide, also denied any role in it. “Grey had absolutely nothing to do with post concerning Olive Garden,” a representative told Consumerist . “It would be against our code of conduct.” The original poster later chimed in with more details: “At Olive Garden, we were talking to my brother about the fire when the manager stopped by,” he explained. “He asked how everything was and my daughter blurted out ‘Grandpa’s house burned down’.
