Comedian Patrice O’Neal Passes Away at 41

Comedian, radio personality, Charlie Sheen roaster, and sometimes actor Patrice O’N eal passed away following a stroke last month and his long term struggle with diabetes. “Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius,” wrote agent Matt Frost in a statement. O’N eal was best known for his stand up, television, and radio appearances, including stints on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and the Opie and Anthony show. He also appeared in a handful of films including Head of State and Furry Vengeance ; watch him in a scene from Spike Lee’s The 25th Hour after the jump.

Controversial Director Ken Russell Dead at 84

Ken Russell, the controversial and iconoclastic British filmmaker who brought The Who’s Tommy to the screen, helped win Glenda Jackson her first Oscar, made nude male wrestling safe for the moviegoing multitudes, famously clobbered a critic with his own review and faded into an obscurity almost as uncompromising as his cinematic visions, has died following a series of strokes. He was 84.

Tragic news from the New Orleans set of G.I. Joe: Retaliation , where a crew member suffered fatal injuries after an accident while breaking down the set. Filming closed earlier this week under director Jon M. Chu , who had already Tweeted his departure from the set days before the incident occurred. The tragedy marks the latest in a string of on-set accidents on big budget studio productions including The Expendables 2 and The Hobbit .
