According to NYDN , the ritual is supposed to go down at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. Whatever the witches are doing, it calls for an unflattering photo of president Trump, a tower tarot card, salt, a candle, a feather and either the stub of an orange candle or a baby carrot — we have a decent guess of what that ingredient represents. Now the spell isn’t meant to hurt him. but instead is more of a “binding spell” to keep y’all’s President from doing harm to all of us with his BS policies. For many of those who are old enough to remember a time when music was purchased in brick and mortar stores and MTV played videos, it’s difficult to believe that it’s been nearly 23 years since Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life . Though only 27 at the time of his death, Cobain’s influence on the music world was so profound that one seldom hears a conversation about the cultural climate of the ’90s in which his name isn’t mentioned. Sadly, Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, has few memories of her father, as she was four months shy of her second birthday when he died. There’s a tragic irony in the fact that the most potent living reminder of Cobain’s inimitable style, droll humor, and artistic temperament doesn’t remember the man herself, but Frances is clearly acutely aware of the ways in which she’s been influenced by her iconic father. Today would have been Cobain’s 50th birthday. The occasion has prompted outpourings of grief and nostalgia from family, friends, and fans, but perhaps no tribute is as moving as the one paid by Frances early this morning. The 24-year-old posted the following image of a handwritten note to her Instagram page: “Today would have been your 50th birthday. You are loved and you are missed,” the message reads. “Thank you for giving me the gift of life. Forever your daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.” In the past, Frances has spoken with surprising candor about her troubled father’s short life and death. “The world demanded it of him,” Frances said of her father’s suicide in an interview last year. “I think that was one of the main triggers as to why he felt he didn’t want to be here and everyone would be happier without him.” She added: “In reality, if he had lived,…I would have had a dad. And that would have been an incredible experience.” Early in life, Frances faced challenges few young people encounter (she was estranged from her mother, Courtney Love), throughout much of her life, she seems to have developed into a surprisingly stable and grounded adult. She’s mended fences with Love, endured a high-profile divorce with dignity, and built a career for herself as a a visual artist. Nothing can make up for the absence of a parent in a child’s life, but we hope Frances finds some comfort in knowing how proud she would’ve made her father.

Ed Sheeran was a last-minute addition to the 2017 Grammy Awards ' list of performers, but his effort Sunday night looked … effortless. Not in the sense that Ed didn't put in the effort, but the British singer-songwriter has a way of making it look easy on stage sometimes. Sheeran, 25, took the Grammy stage, having announced he was doing so just seven hours earlier, for a smooth, stripped-down performance. His loop-pedal roots are what launched Ed's popularity, and he showed that Sunday night with a rendition of “Shape of You.” It was a performance profound in its simplicity. An acoustic guitar, a keyboard and a couple of mics (which worked, unlike with Lady Gaga and Metallica ) were all he used last night. No in-ear monitors were employed, even. Ed is known for his casual style fashion-wise as well as personally and musically, and was true to that as well at the Grammys. Sporting a simple black t-shirt and jeans, he crushed the performance … and in the process, he unwittingly crashed a website. How did he pull that off, you ask? Sheeran's pedal board of choice, the Chewie II Monsta Looper, caused fascination among the millions of music fans tuning in to watch. As such, an influx of web traffic to Equipboard (dot) com caused the online database of music gear to display a 502 error after Ed played. Without getting too technical, the site got an arse-load of traffic thanks to Sheeran, and its servers became overloaded with the demand. Even more awesome considering that not even 24 hours prior, he was the musical guest performing on Saturday Night Live in NYC. Three thousand miles away. However, considering the long history of social injustice and human rights violations in the region, the athletes are being urged not to participate as pawns in this publicity stunt. An open letter was published by TheNation from activist icons Angela Davis, Alice Walker, and socially conscious former athletes Juan Carlos and Craig Hodges made the case as to why the ballers should withdraw: Based on the public dedication to social justice that many of you share, it came as a surprise to us to see that you will be going on a tour of Israel next week sponsored by the Israeli government as part of an effort to get you to “become ambassadors of goodwill for Israel.” We would ask that you reconsider attending. These trips bringing celebrities to Israel are part of a larger “Brand Israel” campaign to help the Israeli government normalize and whitewash its ongoing denial of Palestinian rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dedicated a lot of resources to this campaign, which is designed explicitly to improve Israel’s image abroad to counter worldwide outrage over its massacres and war crimes. Speaking about your trip, Israel’s head of Strategic Affairs and Public Diplomacy Minister Gilad Erdan said, “The ministry which I lead is spearheading an intensive fight against the delegitimization and BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanction] campaigns against Israel, and part of this struggle includes hosting influencers and opinion-formers of international standing in different fields, including sport.” In other words, they are aiming to use your fame to advance their own agenda: an agenda that comes at the expense of the Palestinian people. Central Michigan University Republicans Send Out Hitler-Themed Valentine’s Card A Republican student organization is under fire after at least one member passed out a Valentine’s Day card with an anti-Semitic message. The card read, “My love 4 u burns like 6,000 Jews.” The group has since apologized but should more action be taken? The Morning Sun reports: A Central Michigan University registered student organization apologized via social media late Wednesday night after an anti-Semitic Valentine’s Day card apparently handed out by a member of the group sparked anger among students and community members. The Valentine features a photo of Adolph Hitler on the front and the words, “My love 4 u burns like 6,000 Jews,” and is signed “XOXO, Courtney.” The inflammatory card was among of collection in a bag compiled Valentine’s Day party the Central Michigan University College Republican’s hosted Wednesday night; that bag was then handed to students sitting in Anspach hall, according to a post from the student group. A photo of the Valentine hit Facebook and Twitter Wednesday night and the group posted an apology to Facebook while fielding angry messages. In response to the card several dozen people participated in a rally against hate speech on campus, and CMU President George Ross addressed the situation in a written statement Thursday afternoon. “We are deeply disappointed by last night’s situation with a Valentine card containing an inappropriate sentiment that was produced during a student organization meeting. This is not who we are as a campus community,” Ross wrote. “Such hurtful, offensive language, while protected by the First Amendment, is unacceptable and is not consistent with our values and standards.” This is just one of several instances of Republicans being outta pocket since Sunkist Stalin got in office.
