Back in 2014, shocking footage of then-Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his wife, Janay Palmer , was obtained by TMZ. However, when the footage of Rice brutally knocking out his then-fiancee went public, the Ravens terminated his contract, and league commissioner Roger Goodell announced a change in NFL policy with regard to domestic violence charges. Rice has made efforts to atone for his horrific act, but it seems that the incident may have effectively ended his career. Now, Rice is making what seems to be a last-ditch effort to get signed by an NFL team in time for the 2016 season. In an interview with USA Today , the 29-year-old pledged to donate his entire salary to charity if he lands a new contract: “All the scrutiny that I’ve got, it was deserved, because domestic violence is a horrible thing,” Rice says. “Me donating my salary is something that’ll be from the heart for me. I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me.” He added that the pledge is not being offered as an incentive, but rather as proof to the league and its fans of how much he’s changed: “I’m not saying I’d be [donating the salary] to get on the field, but it’s something that will show where my heart is. My heart is about finishing the right way and helping people along the way.” As a seventh-year veteran, Rice’s minimum salary would be $885,000. Having not set foot on an NFL field for the past two seasons, Rice stated in a recent interview that he’s aware of the fact that his window of opportunity for a comeback is closing rapidly. So this may not be Rice’s attempt to bribe his way back into the league, as some detractors have claimed, but it’s certainly an act of desperation from a man who knows he has few options left.
Ex-Baylor Football Star Shawn Oakman Indicted For Sexual Assault In Texas Ex-Baylor football star Shawn Oakman was expected to go into the NFL until news of an alleged sexual assault turned the former baller into a potential convict. According to ESPN reports: Former Baylor All-America defensive end Shawn Oakman, the school’s all-time sack leader, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree felony sexual assault in Waco, Texas, on Wednesday. Police in Waco arrested Oakman in April after a Baylor graduate student accused him of sexually assaulting her at his apartment on April 3. He was freed on $25,000 bond after his arrest. The McLennan County District Attorney’s office presented the case to a grand jury on Wednesday morning. Under Texas law, second-degree felony sexual assault typically carries a sentence of two to 20 years in state prison and a fine up to $10,000. Oakman, who was once considered a potential second- or third-round pick in this year’s NFL draft, went undrafted after his arrest. “I think an indictment is just a prosecutor’s rubber stamp and requires a much lower burden of proof than one required for a conviction, which is beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Michelle Tuegel, Oakman’s attorney. “We still have a lot of investigation and work to do in this case. Shawn maintains that the sex in this case was consensual.” SMH!!!!!!

The Republican National Convention kicked off from Cleveland on Monday night. And it didn't take long for this Donald Trump lovefest to generate its first scandal. From Willie Robertson or Scott Baio ? Not really, even though the #NeverTrump crowd likely was not a fan of anything these “celebrities” had to say. Rather, the first scandal of the week came courtesy of The Donald's wife, Melania Trump. “From a young age my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Melania said on stage. “They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.” Sounds great and inspiring, right? The sort of thing a First Lady-to-be would say in such a circumstance? Melania went on to add: “That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son, and we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. “Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.” Again, good stuff. But plagiarized stuff? Critics were quick to note similarities between Trump's speech here and Michelle Obama's 2008 speech at the Democratic National Convention. She had an eating disorder. She snorted A LOT of cocaine . At one point, in fact, Lovato now admits that she thought she’d be long gone by now. As in… dead. “I lived fast and I was going to die young,” Lovato says in the latest issue of American Way. “I didn’t think I would make it to 21.” Now 23, Lovato battled drug and alcohol addictions as a teenager. She was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Through the years, the singer has spoken candidly about her personal struggles, doing the same now with the pages of American Airlines’ inflight magazine. In this cover story, Demi recalls how she used to self-medicate with alcohol, cocaine and OxyContin. Her mother, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, and Lovato’s grandmother had both struggled with bulimia, according to the star. “Even though I was 2 or 3 years old,” the singer told the magazine. “Being around somebody who was 80 pounds and had an active eating disorder…it’s hard not to grow up like that.” In a previous interview, Lovato said she used to smuggle hard drugs on to airplanes .
