Splash News/Getty Vic Mensa Adresses BET Cypher Freestyle About XXXtentacion Vic Mensa apparently had some choice words for recently deceased rapper XXXtentacion during his BET Hip Hop cypher over the weekend. While his exact words remain unclear until the segment airs on BET on October 16, whatever he said about the slain rapper definitely offended some of his friends and associates…not to mention the fact that X’s own mother was seated in the audience to hear his critique of her son’s actions in life. Granted, Vic holds some deep convictions about violence against women and the intense domestic abuse charges that were brought against X by a former girlfriend while he was alive. As such, Vic chose to speak his mind during his alotted bars. To explain himself, he basically gave all of X’s rabid teen fans a “sorry, not sorry” response on what he had to say…but offered sincere condolences to the rapper’s mother for her loss, and emphasized that he was not aware that she would be in attendance. Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences. However, to further prove his original point, he included a few of the…colorful retaliatory comments X’s die hard fans have been leaving for one of his associates ever since news broke that he “dared” speak ill of the rapper. this is the culture that promoting violence against women in music creates. these are messages to the director of my CHARITY IN CHICAGO. these kids are taught that this mentality is ok by their abusive heroes and normalize this shit. I CALL BS! People, particularly the young, have a tendency to idolize and blindly defend their faves regardless of WHAT information comes out about them or their actions. It’s not surprising that Vic is getting these sorts of responses to his comments, despite the fact that 98% of those clapping back have no clue what he actually said. It will be interesting to hear exactly what specifically he had to say when the show airs next week. Do you think Vic is in the right here? Splash/Getty
A ndrew Gillum made history as the first Black American to win a major party nomination for governor in Florida. It was a huge upset and now the mayor of Tallahassee, Florida is tightening the race against his Republican opponent Ron DeSantis. However, Gillum is temporarily suspending his campaign activity—but don’t fret, it’s for all the right reasons. See Also: President Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Could Lead To More Voter Suppression CNN.com reports that due to Tropical Storm Michael in Florida, “Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum announced Sunday he will be leaving the campaign trail briefly to address storm preparations. The forecast projects Tallahassee, where Gillum is mayor, will be directly hit.” Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency on October 7. The election is on November 6 and things are looking promising for Gillum to make history. A Sept. 28-30 P ublic Policy Polling (PPP) showed Gillum up by 4 points over DeSantis. Quinnipiac University poll had Gillum out-polling DeSantis by 9 points. However, we all know how polls can be wrong, let’s not forget the polls that convinced people Hillary Clinton would win. The state deadline to register to vote in Florida is tomorrow. If you, your friends, or family members aren’t registered, do it now, especially if you are outraged by the Stand Your Ground laws. In the Democratic primary, Gillum was the first candidate to come out against Stand Your Ground, calling for Florida Gov. Rick Scott to suspend the law, which he never did. There is a lot riding on this election, so as Gillum says, “Bring it home!” SEE ALSO: Meet Jogger Joe, The Man Who Took Racist Cue From BBQ Becky In Tossing Homeless Man’s Clothes Trump-Supporting DA Calls ‘Ghetto’ Maxine Waters A ‘Bitch,’ Can’t Believe She Hasn’t Been Shot This Colin Kaepernick Retweet Says Everything You Need To Know About The NFL Players’ Anthem Grievance [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3785430″ overlay=”true”]
Y ep, all Black folks look alike according to media sources from Fox News to The Hill. The Hill, a popular political outlet since 1994, covered Susan Rice , Obama’s former National Security Advisor, who is considering running against Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins for the U.S. Senate. Collins voted for Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court and has received tons of backlash because she is a woman who voted against a woman who was sexually assaulted. While covering the story, The Hill used a photo of Condoleezza Rice , who was Secretary of State under President George W. Bush . In case you missed it, Obama’s former White House Communications Director Jen Psaki tweeted, “who wants to run for Senate in Maine? there will be an army of supporters with you.” Rice replied, “Me.” Me https://t.co/93qNxN7Ky9 — Susan Rice (@AmbassadorRice) October 5, 2018 Don’t get too excited. Last week, Josh and Anna Duggar celebrated an anniversary. The controversial couple has been married for (almost) ten years, and they’re survived more than their fair share of scandals during that time. Actually, to be fair, Josh and Anna were celebrating ten years since the day they got engaged . Not a common custom, but the Duggars need all the “good” Josh-related news they can get their hands on. And of course, the Duggars are fiends for social media attention, so they publicly celebrate anything that could possibly be construed as a milestone. Josh and Anna celebrated their almost-decade of wedded “bliss” with the above photo, which she posted on her Instagram page. (Josh remains persona non grata on social media, with no accounts of his own.) “The 10 years have been a wonderful adventure!” Anna captioned the pic. It sounds like — despite the many Josh Duggar scandals that nearly brought an end to her marriage — Anna is genuinely excited about reaching the 10-year mark with Josh. But there’s reason to believe she’s not as thrilled with the situation as she claims to be. Radar Online consulted with an expert who claims that Anna is unable to convincingly conceal her disgust with Josh in the above photo. “She has a tight smile,” body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass told Radar upon examining the photos. “He eyes are not smiling. She’s gritting her teeth. It’s very contrived.” Dr. Glass claims that these non-verbal cues are consistent in recent photos of Josh and Anna. “This is all for show,” Dr. Glass remarked upon examining a series of images. “She’s looking at him, but she’s leaning away. Anyone with eyes can see this is all for show.” Viewing footage of the couple from 19 Kids and Counting and more recent YouTube videos, Dr. Glass became even more convinced that Josh and Anna’s marriage is a ruse. Josh Duggar Emerges From Hiding to Congratulate Jill on Baby: Watch! “She’s uncomfortable,” Dr. Glass said after watching various videos. “She’s rocking back and forth. It’s so phony and contrived.” Sounds like a lot to take away from some photos and short video clips, but this is Josh Duggar we’re talking about. We’re very quick to believe that no one would be married to this man by choice. View Slideshow: Josh and Anna Duggar Celebrate Ten-Year Anniversary, Continue to Make Fans Nauseous
Jersey Shore star Ronnie Ortiz Magro has gone through some rough times with Jen Harley. And by rough, we mean that time that Ronnie got dragged by a car . Ronnie went to the hospital, and Jen got her mugshot taken. It was scary. Despite everything, however, Jen is making sure that the world knows that they’re still together and going strong. Jen Harley took to Instagram to share an edited photo and to gush about her relationship. “How we are all the time,” she writes about her relationship with Ronnie. “We went through a rough time,” she vastly understates while not seeming to take responsibility for it. “But,” she continues. “We are strong and the best we’ve ever been.” Jen concludes: “I love you and have your back always.” Jen then writes “LOVERS” in all caps, tagging herself and Ronnie in case there was any doubt. That was not all. Jen also made it clear that she and Ronnie went on a recent family walk through New York City’s Central Park. In addition to sharing glimpses of the skyline and of the greenery, she also posed for a few photos. She had their precious 6-month-old baby, Ariana, with her. Ariana is growing up so quickly! She and Ronnie also had her first child, Mason, along for the walk. This stroll through the park took place on Thursday, October 4. The following day, October 5, was Mike Sorrentino’s sentencing in his tax evasion trial. Ronnie, like many of the Jersey Shore stars, attended in a show of emotional support. Ronnie and Jen have had a tumultuous relationship. Earlier this year, shortly after their daughter Ariana was born, Ronnie accused Jen of having cheated on him. Then, in June, the police were called after a dispute between the two of them became worryingly heated. It was also in June that Jen Harley was arrested for dragging Ronnie with a car . As you may recall, he was trying to leave the car when she reportedly sped away, dragging him and causing him to be hospitalized with some gross-sounding wounds. But Jen avoided real consequences after prosecutors dropped the case. And she and Ronnie are trying to make it work. There is a difference between working through a rough patch and staying in a toxic or violent relationship. A lot of parents seem to think that staying in a toxic relationship is worth it for the sake of a child — to give that child two parents. The reality is too often that children will grow up seeing this toxic relationship, which can harm their development and also influence how that child views relationships as an adult. (Some will repeat their parents’ mistakes — others will avoid that at all costs, but may develop other issues) Are Ronnie and Jen really doing Ariana any favors by staying together? Maybe … or maybe not. For now, though, it looks like they’re trying their best to stay together. It’s definitely easier than co-parenting their baby as a pair of exes. We certainly hope that the two of them manage to avoid any future “rough patches.” (And by that, we definitely mean that we hope that absolutely no one physically assaults anyone else, particularly with a car and asphalt) Baby Ariana is innocent and deserves her parents at their best. Source: vorDa / Getty Black women are now the most educated group in the country , which means it’s natural we have more money at our fingertips. However, as anyone who has ever dealt significantly in the financial arena knows, just because you make money that doesn’t automatically mean you know what to do with it. It’s easy to neglect investing, saving and making other sound decisions with your money, in favor of spending it on things you want instead of things you need to provide you with a comfortable life long after your working days are behind you. Culturally, Black people don’t utilize their finances the way they should in comparison to their non-white peers, but that has a lot to do with not making as much and being afforded the same opportunities. When you know better, you do better, so we spoke to Tiffany Aliche (known as The Bugetnista) and AttiQuewa Green (known as That Finance Chick), black women who are financial experts and filled with sage advice, to give us some tips on how to get your finances to where they should be and how to make your money work for you even while you’re sleeping. This is the year to level up…and that definitely includes your finances! Hello Beautiful: What do you think are the biggest obstacles between black women and their finances? Tiffany Aliche: The biggest obstacle for black women surrounding their finances is thinking that we need to manage it all on their own, and asking for help is a sign of weakness. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength. I had a period after getting laid off from my job where I felt ashamed. It was isolating. Nothing gets solved in isolation. This is what’s so powerful about my Facebook forum, the Live Richer Dream Catchers Group. Over 300,000 members are in the group. I see women daily getting support from each other. They share stories of how getting advice on building credit, repaying debt, and saving has completely changed their financial outlook. AttiQuewa Green: I think the biggest obstacles black women have when dealing with our finances is finding a way to end the cycle of financial illiteracy for ourselves and finding our financial comfort zone to meet our goals. Often times, it’s up to us to learn how to “do better” with our money when we didn’t realize there was an issue in the first place. Then once we get over that hump, we have to silence the voices around us saying that our ambitions are too much for our current circumstances. For example: for the woman barely making ends meet aspiring to make six figures so she doesn’t have to figure out which bill not to pay for the month and maybe be able to travel once in a while. Or the most insulting obstacle in my opinion, silencing the old traditional or insecure voices telling us not to intimidate our men by making more than them. HB: How do you feel about the belief that black people lack the abundance of generational wealth of other races, thus leaving them behind financially? Aliche: History’s impact on our ability to generate wealth can’t be ignored. But I don’t believe that the black community lacks the capacity to build wealth for future generations. Abundance is all around us, we just need to give our community the right tools to accumulate it. Creating affordable tools with strategies to build wealth is my passion. Green: I believe it’s true. The historical events involving slavery through mortgage redlining has set us back tremendously, but I also believe that we don’t have to stay where we are. We cannot continue to play the blame game as it does nothing for us. It’s all about educating yourself, your family & community to get ahead. There are so many tools and resources available to us that can allow us to create generational wealth including, but definitely not limited to, having multiple sources of passive income. HB: At what age do you recommend sitting down with a young black woman and teaching her the basics of financial responsibility? Aliche: I’m working on a children’s book right now teaching children how to manage money. I also worked on a financial literacy bill to make financial education required in schools. The basics of financial responsibility should be taught to young black women right along with reading and writing at a very young age. Simple lessons like saving an allowance and giving back has a long-term positive impact as they transition into their teenage and young adult years. Green: As soon as possible. If they can talk, they can listen. It’s all about creating great habits young because it’s way easier than having to break bad habits as an adult. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people with the mindset that “kids should be kids” or they need to stay in a “child’s place” not realizing that they are stifling them. Your childhood is about learning life lessons you’re going to need as an adult and the sooner we can adopt that mindset they better off our next generations will be. HB: With the uncertainty of the current administration, what advice do you have for black women to secure their financial future? Aliche: Don’t let fear or uncertainty scare you into inaction. The news can be depressing, but there are moves you can make within your control. Of course, vote — locally and on the national level. Entrepreneurship as a means to building generational wealth is another way to secure your future. Developing multiple streams of income is advice I always stress. You never know when you could lose a job or lose a salary in your household. Having a side business can ease the financial blow. A side hustle can also grow into a full-time job or a company that you can pass down to future generations. Green: Definitely have multiple streams of income! It is a must! Also, prepare for your future by saving now, making safe investments and taking advantage of the current tax laws when looking at investing and growing your money as well as have the best credit you can possibly obtain. HB: What financial mistakes do you commonly see black women make that they need to change? Aliche: Living beyond means is a common problem I see with black women, but the good news is this isn’t such a terrible problem to have. You can rectify it by taking a hard look at your spending habits, downsizing, and creating a good budget. I was able to save about $40,000 in a few years on a teacher’s salary, so cutting back can be done even if you’re making a modest salary. Green: Not having multiple sources of income. Living a life that they can’t afford. Not planning out their financial future. Letting other people have an influence over their money (significant other, friends, family “black tax” & jobs.) HB: If you could narrow it down to a few specific tips, what advice would you give a black woman about her finances? Aliche: Know it’s not a race. As teenagers, we believe we’ll be married by 25, living in a McMansion by 28, and driving a Rolls Royce at 30. Then we get to 30, realize we’re sitting on a pile of student loan debt, and feel like failures. There’s no race. It’s a journey. Mistakes will be made. Financial security happens from learning and making smarter decisions over time. Get your emergency fund together. An emergency savings fund is where you should put a few months’ worth of your salary. Don’t ever spend this money. Keeping a cash cushion will help you avoid having to rely on credit cards and other debt when unexpected expenses come up. Protect your credit. Having good credit history comes with many perks like affordable loans and credit. You may think you’re a good friend, partner, parent, or cousin by co-signing for someone else, but their payment habits will impact you. Your needs come first. Work to keep your credit history clean. Use your employer retirement plan. It’s never too early to start saving for retirement. Even if you can only put a few bucks away in your employer retirement account, do it! Work towards increasing your contribution to match your employer contribution. If your employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan, consider investing in an IRA or another retirement account. Green: Outside of the usual “make sure you have a great budget, plan for your future, fix your credit & have multiple sources of income,” do not allow anyone to make you feel negative about your financial ambitions. As women, we crave stability and security and if people don’t understand that, that’s none of your business. Also, be sure to surround yourself with like-minded people. It’ll make your financial journey a lot easier. Jenelle Evans might be the very worst person to ever emerge from the reality TV cesspool. We don't say that lightly, as the genre has produced all kinds of narcissists, manipulators, and all-around douchebags, but it's easy to make an argument for Jenelle as the absolute worst. She's an abuser, an addict, a bigot, and an enabler. It's tempting to dismiss Jenelle as merely “troubled,” but she actively goes out of her way to make life worse for other people in a way that makes her truly dangerous. And her latest social media hate campaign is a prime example of what we're talking about. 1. No Chill Jenelle has made no secret of the fact that she has little time or tolerance for anyone who’s not straight, white, and American. 2. A Bad Influence Jenelle has always been a bad person — selfish, violent, abusive, cruel — but the bigotry and obsession with firearms that have made her so much more dangerous as of late seem to be the result of her relationship with David Eason. 3. Dipsh-t Dave David was fired from Teen Mom 2 earlier this year for hurling homophobic slurs at fans of the show on social media. 4. No Lesson Learned Sadly, his termination did not inspire David to change his ways. Instead, he seems to have doubled down on his hateful views in recent weeks. 5. Still a Douche David continues to goad the LGBT community with idiotic remarks and foolish memes about “straight pride.” 6. This Effing Guy We’re used to him being an idiot, but David may have actually sunk to a new low this week. And, of course, Jenelle is defending him every step of the way … View Slideshow
J emele Hill and Michael Smith made history at ESPN by being the first all-Black anchor team on “SportsCenter” in February 2017. They both have left ESPN and now Hill has sat down for her first interview since the departure—and she drops some truths about how they were treated at the network. See Also: President Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Could Lead To More Voter Suppression In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , the 42-year-old says they were labeled political simply because they were Black and way before she made any comments about Trump. Hill explained, “Mike (Smith) and I specifically were called political, way before any of the Trump stuff ever happened and I always thought that was a very interesting label, because frankly, I think that most of the time it was said because we were the two Black people.” She continued, “It wasn’t our fault that Chance the Rapper decided to wear a Colin Kaepernick T-shirt and say that he wasn’t supporting the NFL. We didn’t have him on the show for that. We had him on the show to talk about him being in Vegas for Mayweather-McGregor. But because you have the two Black people that are outspoken, with another outspoken Black artist, suddenly the show is too political.” Thankfully, ESPN is in her rear view mirror because big things have already come her way. She will narrate the LeBron James basketball documentary Shut Up and Dribble , which airs in November on Showtime. She is now a staff writer for The Atlantic and is developing a TV series with Gabrielle Union, which is loosely based on her relationship with her best friend of 20 years. Hill explained to The Hollywood Reporter , “The best way I can describe it, it’s as if Molly and Issa from ‘Insecure’ had grown up. Imagine those two characters as fully-grown, accomplished women of color.” Huge congrats to Jemele Hill! N ow that Paris Dennard and Omarosa are no longer in Trump ‘s good graces, fraudulent Candace Owens is gunning to be his new BBFF (best Black friend forever). Just two years ago Owens was anti-Trump , but now, like the rest of the opportunists — from Diamond and Silk to Pastor Darrell Scott — she has sold her soul to be a famous Black Trump supporter. To prove her devotion, on Wednesday morning she took her Trump allegiance to a new level on by calling Dr. Christine Blasey Ford , the woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault in the summer of 1982, a “liar.” See Also: President Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Could Lead To More Voter Suppression Owens posted an article from Fox News (as if that’s an unbiased source) claiming an ex-boyfriend of Ford’s from 1992 to 1998 said she never brought up the sexual assault to him. The ex, who chose to remain anonymous, also accused Ford of preparing a friend who was going to take a lie detector test because they were interviewing for a job at the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office. The letter claimed Ford “explained in detail what to expect, how polygraphs worked, and helped [her friend] become familiar and less nervous about the exam.” Owens’ sunken place brain translated the unfounded allegation as Ford being a “liar,” even though Ford said she didn’t tell anyone about the alleged assault until 2012. Not to mention, preparing a friend does not mean she was coaching them to lie (or that Ford would know how to fake a lie detector test). Nonetheless, Owens wrote, “I would like to be among the first to say that I want Christine Blasey Ford to serve time in PRISON— as ALL WOMEN who FAKE their sexual assaults, ruin the lives of men, and have the audacity to utilize our tax dollars for baseless investigations, should.” WOW.
