It’s pretty ironic … the 2 celebs who have really stood out in terms of trying to influence voters in various ways are Kanye and Taylor Swift. They’re on opposite sides of the spectrum, but they both appear impactful. Here’s the thing. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out … a lunch with Kanye when the critical midterm elections are just a few weeks away may be more important to Trump than prison reform. That doesn’t mean Kanye has no shot at getting in his ear about prison reform and other issues, but get real … the main course of this lunch is the midterms. Also worth noting, that polling bump Trump refers to was barely negligible when taken in proper context. Although there are way too many shuffle foot Black men (and women) rocking with Trump for our tastes, the majority of the demo ain’t falling for the racist and sexist antics of the con man squatting in the White House. Du Bois Medal from the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at the vaunted institution. Page Six reports : Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and comedian Dave Chappelle are among eight people being saluted by Harvard University for their contributions to black history and culture. All eight recipients of the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal will be honored Thursday afternoon by the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard. Kaepernick, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, created a firestorm when he began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and social injustice. NFL Jim Brown Visits White House With Kanye West Kanye West isn’t alone with his love and support of Trump. NFL legend Jim Brown has Yeezy’s back every step of the way, which includes taking visits to the White House with him. On Thursday, both stars sat with 45 in the Oval Office and chatted it up about absolutely nothing . However, Mr. Brown did have something to say about Colin Kaepernick and anyone else who protests the National Anthem, the flag, or anything American: “Well, I can be very blunt about taking the knee. First of all, I’m an American. That flag is my flag. The things that I’ve overcome in this country have made me a better person. I don’t think that we should take knees in protest. … I think we should work out our problems.” As for his brotherly visit to the White House with Yé, Brown said: “This is the President of the United States. He allowed me to be invited to his territory, he treated us beautifully, and he shared some thoughts, and he will be open to talking when I get back to him. That’s the best he could do for me.” Okay, sir.
I don’t want to die. These are the heartbreaking words penned by Jael Strauss on her Facebook page in a message to fans that relayed the most painful news imaginable: She has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. “I was gonna write some long thing but some of you guys deserve to know,” the 34-year old wrote last week, four days into Breast Cancer Awareness month. She then added very simply: “On October 2nd I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. It has aggressively spread throughout my body and is incurable.” Stage IV is the final and most serious stage for cancer. It is not always a death sentence, but as Strauss writes here, there is rarely any treatment options for someone that has contracted such an illness. Strauss later confirmed that the name of her illness was rapidly progressive metastatic inflammatory breast cancer. She went on to explain that undergoing chemotherapy and treatment may help extend her doctors’ original prognosis. “With treatment it may prolong my life longer than the “few months” doctors said I could make it,” she added. “I don’t want to die. I need another one of those miracles that I got back in 2013.” Strauss competed on the eighth season of America’s Next Top Model in 2007, finishing six among all contestants. Just this past August, she celebrated five years of sobriety, writing at the time on Instagram; “Today I have 5 years sober. Good God! “I know a few things to be true: Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together.” She talked years ago with Dr. Phil about how an intervention by her loved ones allowed her to overcome her addiction. (Hence the reference above to the year 2013.) “Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder not normal,” she continued last month. “And I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family. Thank you to anyone that’s ever let me sponsor them.” To help offset some of the medical costs, Strauss’ friends have set up a GoFundMe page on her behalf, confirming that the former model has already started chemotherapy. “What we do know is that Jael is putting all of her energy and drive into fighting this insidious disease and can use as much support and love as possible,” reads the fundraising page, noting that: “Jael is in tremendous pain right now and is unable to work. In a month, she will be let go from her job and lose her health insurance.” It adds: Jael, being the selfless person that she is, has helped countless people throughout her life as an advocate for recovery and social justice. She has offered everything she has to people in need; no matter what their situation, she is always ready to help with an empathetic heart and nonjudgmental spirit. She has created “gofundmes” for literally dozens of her friends, and it is now time for us to pay her back. We have the chance, and honestly the obligation, to step up and return the favor. Over the past several weeks, each time we’ve written about Kathryn Dennis, it’s been in relation to Thomas Ravenel. That’s what happens when you share two kids with the lead of a Bravo reality show… … and then that lead gets accused of sexual assault by two women . In this case, however, we’re here to talk about the Southern Charm star and a different man from her past. We don’t know his name. But we do know that this individual sadly has had a major impact on Dennis’ life. On Sunday evening, the 27-year old posted both the following image on Instagram and included with it a lengthy message about how she is a surivor of domestic abuse. Dennis proceeded to tell her story via this social media platform, prefacing the emotional post with a caption that reads: “This is my past, perfectly put…. worth the read. This is the real aftermath.” The reality star then went into painful detail as follows: I spend a lot of time thinking about those questions. I never saw myself in these situations and neither did anyone else. I had strong opinions, a sharp mind, and an independent spirit. But before I knew it, I was left with a broken spirit, mixed opinions, and an anxious and uncertain mind. I didn’t know who I was anymore. Dennis never names her abuser. She doesn’t get into specifics about the incident or incidents, either. Instead, she focuses more on the effects this experience has had on her life — and continues to have on her life. It was the deepest, darkest secret I kept. And this wasn’t about any particular situation/relationship as much as it was my relationship with men. It ran deep and dark, and I never realized the impact it had on myself and on my self-worth. In these depths of despair, I couldn’t see a way out of this cycle. It seemed anywhere I turned pushed me further and further away from getting to a safe place physically, mentally, and emotionally. I looked around and within and realized that my self-worth had been damaged long before I even realized it was possible. This made me really question myself. And this is how Dennis concludes: Was it me? Was this normal behavior, and I was the one in the wrong? I knew deep down inside that wasn’t the case, but I was stuck in quicksand being guided by those who kept my head above, but my feet locked in. Powerful stuff, no? Tragically, there are millions of women out there who can relate to most everything Dennis describes here. She went on to share a handful of memes, such as the ones below: Kathryn’s revelation about her past trauma with domestic violence comes just weeks after her ex-boyfriend, Ravenel, was arrested for second degree assault and battery . The ex-Bravo personality was taken into custody on charges related to sexual assault claims made by his former nanny, Dawn, who cared for his and Kathryn’s two kids, Kensington, 4, and Saint Julien, 2, years ago. Blac Chyna has been through a lot with Rob Kardashian. They have a child together. They were engaged for a brief period of time. They starred on a reality TV show together. He posted revenge porn-type photos of her on the Internet . You know, the usual ups and downs of most couples. By this point, if you’re reading this website, we’re guessing you’re quite familiar with the sordid history between the Instagram model and the sock mogul. But did you know that Chyna would be down with repeating it? Or somehow thinking it might change for some reason? In other words: She wants to get back together with her one-time fiance and baby daddy! At the very very least, she’s open to this possibility. Asked in an interview with DailyMailTV if she would reconcile romantically with Rob, Chyna didn’t rule it out. “Maybe, but we’ll see,” the 30-year old replied simply and surprisingly. It’s clear these two have a strong connection, but it’s also clear that connection has led to a handful of extremely uglu arguments and confrontations. This tension culminated in July of 2017 after Rob released several lewd photos of his ex and nearly got arrested for doing so without her permission. In Chya’s defense, however, she never threatened to keep Rob from their daughter, Dream, during the fallout from this scandal As understandably mad as she was at Rob, she never used their child as a pawn. This actually sort of says a lot about her. The stars dated on and off from January to December 2016 and much of their relationship was documented on their E! docuseries, Rob & Chyna. Nearly every episode centered on some giant fight between the couple, but Chyna says now that she doesn’t regret anything about the program. “I wouldn’t change nothing with Rob & Chyna at all ‘cause that was our reality,” she told DailyMailTV, adding: “The good, the bad and whatever else. I feel like a lot of people misconstrue the whole situation. There’s no way I could have a beautiful baby girl as super-smart as Dream. “You can look into her face and just tell she was made with love. She’s, like, perfect.” Make fun of Chyna all you want (Lord knows that we have), but that is an exceptionally grounded and mature way to look at things. The former stripper, of course, is also the mother of five-year-old son King with ex Tyga, whom she dated from 2011 to 2014. She says that being a parent has changed her for the better: “Before, it was all about me. I was kind of, like, really selfish. “But now I have these two little ones, so I have to be more cautious, more aware and more attentive of these little people I created. It’s so different.” In closing, Chyna said she doesn’t want to “jinx” anything, but that another starring reality show turn may be in the works. Probably not opposite Rob, however. That said, the former lovers have found a way to parent in peace and to not tear each other into pieces online or in person. “Chyna and Rob are coparenting a lot better than anyone thought they would,” a source told Us Weekly in May. “They’re getting along. Bill Cosby is two weeks into his three-to-ten year sentence and has started to really get a look at his life behind bars . His larger-than-life personality is reportedly not meshing well with his fellow inmates. A new report says that one prisoner got so fed up with him that he chucked the chicken patty from his sandwich at him, striking Cosby in the face. RadarOnline reports that Cosby was on the receiving end of a projectile patty of the chicken variety. “Mr. Cosby cracked a joke to another inmate by the infirmary,” their insider reports. The source continues: “and that inmate was mad enough to take his chicken out of the bun and plunge it at him.” The report notes that prison food isn’t exactly served in a buffet, so there must have been a great deal of ire behind the move. “The way I see it,” the insider says. “You have to be very angry to throw your meal in jail because I don’t think you get seconds.” We would imagine not. (Disclaimer: these chicken patties are probably a lot nicer than the institutional chicken disk that allegedly struck the disgraced comedian) The alleged incident comes on the heels of a report that said that Cosby was enjoying the chicken patty. “Mr. Cosby told us last week that the chicken patty was the best meal he had so far at SCI Phoenix … so that says a lot,” the source notes. We already mentioned a report that Cosby has earned a nickname and some undeserved respect from fellow inmates. “They’re calling him the ‘OG,'” the insider claimed. “Lingo for ‘original gangster.” Clearly, that respect was not universal. There was another report that said that Cosby tried pudding in prison, and that it was apparently not to his liking. “He told us on the phone over the weekend ‘I was promoting THIS garbage?!’” The source claimed. “It tastes like something you give a lizard!” Cosby was famous in the ’90s as the face of jello and pudding advertisements. “We were caught by surprise,” the insider stated. “We never asked him: ‘Hey, Mr. Cosby, have you ever tried pudding or Jell-O?’” “I never saw him and I don’t think anybody else ever saw him eating pudding or Jell-O,” the source admitted. The insider concluded: “but I was pretty damn shocked when he told us he tried it and it wasn’t what he expected.” Of course, a conflicting report casts into doubt everything that we’ve heard. TMZ spoke to someone at the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. “This did NOT happen,” their insider said forcefully of the chicken patty incident. “And,” the source continued. “I am unhappy with anyone who is reporting such fake news.” What’s more is that Cosby has allegedly had no contact whatsoever with fellow inmates while he is evaluated by prison staff. Cosby is two weeks in and, no matter whose report you believe, it seems safe to say that he’s no longer living his best life. He wants out of prison — and we’re not referring to the goofy claim that Cosby is planning an elaborate prison break . No, we mean that his legal team is fighting in court. They are appealing, trying to throw out his sentence, his conviction, and even the judge . We wouldn’t hold our breath. His wife, Camille Cosby, is said to be demanding that the judge be investigated. It would be a surprise if her efforts bear fruit. Cosby has been sentenced to prison, and he may even spend the rest of his life behind bars. But his conviction for the drugging and sexual assault of Andrea Constand is just a drop in the bucket considering that 60 women came forward to accuse him of similar crimes. Though some of these survivors may feel vindicated that he is behind bars, very few if any of them will also get their day in court. Some waited “too long” to report for the legal system to accept. Others are unable to corroborate. Many feel that Cosby’s incarceration is a victory — but a hollow one. (Photo by Erika Goldring/Getty Images) Panicked Crowds Stampede At Lil Wayne A3C Show Despite all the amazing “you had to be there” moments and snackalicious honeys strutting around the A3C festival this past weekend…closing night was marred by a pretty dark cloud on what should have been a momentous occasion. Lil Wayne was finally free to release and perform some brand new music in the ATL, and fans packed out the Georgia Freight Depot to catch his performance. However, 3 songs in, some sort of disturbance spooked members of the crowd and caused an avalanche effect of panicked concertgoers fleeing the scene. All in all, Ataltna Police Department reports that about 12 people had to be treated for minor injuries, largely related to getting knocked around, stepped on, or bruised/scratched during the melee. Initial reports from the grounds pegged the source of the stampede as a shootout in the crowd. However, APD confirms that no weapons were fired nor gunshot wounds inflicted on the scene. There seems to have been some confusion surrounding a small patch of fisticuffs during the show. SMH! Sad that the festivities had to end this way.
