Rich Schultz/Getty Images Black Talk Show Host Schools White Co-Hosts On NFL Protests & Disrespecting The Military Daily Blast Live host Al Jackson is done spending time talking about the NFL protests if you’re not going to talk about the root of the problem — racism in America. He’s so done with talking about it that he unleashed nothing but facts on his co-hosts and any ignorant viewers who had a problem with it. When the conversation went five minutes too long Al Jackson had enough. He tells his co-hosts: “Are we done talking about this or are we going to talk about stupid Casey Affleck? Are we ready to have a serious conversation? Are we going to give this story the breath and time it deserves or are we going to talk about the next James Bond, what do you guys wanna do?” It was then that Daily Blast Live co-hosts Sam Schacher and Jeff Schroeder realized it was about to go down. Al Jackson gathered the congregation for a sermon and unapologetically schooled them on how veterans, especially black ones, are treated when they return home from war. It looks like America as a whole has some problems with disrespecting military vets and it has nothing to do with the national anthem . Watch the entire exchange below.
Maci Bookout is in a difficult spot. Her first baby daddy, Ryan Edwards, has been arrested three times in the past 18 months and is currently facing a year in prison if convicted on the latest charges against him. Maci currently has a restraining order against Edwards as a result of an incident in which he allegedly threatened to murder her husband. It may sound like she can now easily wash her hands of her troubled ex — but it’s not that simple. Bookout has made it clear that she very much wants her eldest son, Bentley, to have a relationship with his father. Unfortunately, she wants more than anything to ensure her son’s safety. And for the time being at least, that means keeping him away from Ryan. Maci has mostly kept quiet about Edwards’ struggles with addiction , but she opened up this week in an interview for Kailyn Lowry’s Coffee Convos podcast. Her comments on Ryan’s legal issues underscore Maci’s conflicting feelings toward her ex. “I’ll be honest, I have no idea what state he’s in because he’s not allowed to be around any of us. He can’t just be in the same location as me and the family,” she told Lowry. “So I have no idea. He’s not allowed to contact us or anything like that. But I mean, he did get arrested, I don’t know … I mean, I do know why, but I don’t want to say.” Bookout then revealed that she actually felt better about the situation when Ryan was held in jail for a week last month. “I feel better that he is in jail because I know he’s safe there, if that makes sense,” Maci said. “I know he’s not driving around. He’s not doing something that could potentially hurt him or an innocent person. So it sucks, crappy situation for everyone.” Edwards is currently out on bail and serving six months probation. He’s due back in court on August 23 to be tried for his latest probation violation. View Slideshow: Ryan Edwards: SENTENCED on Heroin Charges! Released From Jail!
A resident of Bluffton, South Carolina was pulled over for reckless driving last Saturday morning and arrested on a number of charges. This, despite the fact that she was white. That statement may seem like a ridiculous non-sequitor, but it was actually the argument used by Lauren Elizabeth Cutshaw at the time over her run-in with the law. As documented by The New York Post, the 32-year old was caught by police officers blowing through a four-way stop sign at 60 miles per hour around 1:45 a.m. on August 4. With eyes described in the official report as bloodshot and glossy, Cutshaw told the cops that she had only two glasses of wine. But she was allegedly slurring her words and there was a strong scent of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. “I mean, I was celebrating my birthday,” Cutshaw told the cops when they asked her how big the glasses were for her pair of drinks, according to the report. This is a rather aburd excuse for two reasons: Her birthday is on August 9. One’s birthday is not an excuse for breaking the law. But this seemingly typical arrest has gone viral for a different reason. Cutshaw gave the officers what she believes were perfectly reasonable explanations for why they shouldn’t place her under arrest. To wit: She maintained perfect grades during all of her school years… she was a cheerleader … she was a member of a sorority. Oh, and also: “I’m a white, clean girl,” Cutshaw said, according to the report. For some reason, however, this defense did not mean anything to the arresting officers. When the officers asked what, exactly, Lauren meant by this announcement, she replied: “You’re a cop, you should know what that means.” (Translation: You guys only shoot and harass black people. So come on! Give me a break! ) What did mean something to these authority figures? The fact that Cutshaw failed sobriety tests; and that a breathalyzer showed that her blood alcohol at the time was .18 percent (the legal limit in South Carolina is 0.08 percent). The report actually cited Cutshaw’s “white” remark, noting: “Making statements such as these as a means to justify not being arrested are unusual in my experience as a law enforcement officer and I believe further demonstrate the suspect’s level of intoxication.” And also of her white privilege. In the end, Lauren was booked on charges of speeding, disregarding a stop sign, simple possession of marijuana, driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charles Fisher, host of the Hip Hop ‘Hood Report, discussed how the the upcoming Q&A came about with HipHopDX . “As a member of the Hip Hop Community, I take notice to all social issues that go down within the culture. When I heard about this story, something did not sound right so I contacted the family to see what I could do to bring the dark to light. The mom opened up to me with love and trust. Once I read the trial transcripts and motions to dismiss the case, I was convinced that something was wrong here. To protect the #METOO movement, I had to ask her to tell the story that no none has heard” he explained. Fisher clarified that his show is not out to clout chase but to create conversation how unjust the legal system can be. “The interview will expose the criminal justice system and open the door for criminal justice reform for all citizens. That is our mission, so this is bigger than Carol Maraj, this is for all those who feel that they have not gotten a fair shake with our system of law.” In November 2017 Jelani was found guilty of rape. A ugust 7 marks Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, bringing awareness to the demeaning statistic that it takes an additional 219 days for African-American women to earn the annual salary of white men. Gender and race pay disparities have led to Black women earning only $.63 cents on the dollar compared to white men, Equal Pay Today reported. Women of color have had to work more than 7 months into 2018 just to match that majority group’s 2017 pay scale — a fact that is equally alarming and urgent to address in our society. Today is Black Women's Equal Pay Day ⠀ ⠀ Did you know the Average Black Woman had to work all of 2017 + 8 months of 2018 JUST TO MATCH the pay rate of a White Male? ⠀ ⠀ Did you know… https://t.co/DTEzBcZMYU — MohipFinancialSolutions (@MohipFinancial) August 7, 2018 Looking deeper into the issue, Black women are at a worse disadvantage than other racial groups. Their pay lags behind white woman and Black men as well. The factors contributing to the startling gender and racial wage gap run the gamut: bias, employment discrimination, inadequate minimum wage, and a lack of pay transparency and accountability among many companies across the nation. The absence of affordable child care and quality public school education, as well as the failure to give Black women access to capital, also influence the disparities. Closing the wage gap would greatly benefit Black mothers: 80 percent of them are the primary breadwinners for their households according to Fortune . With equal pay, mothers would be able to afford better child care, pay rent with less stress and put more food on the table. Black Women’s Equal Pay Day stands as an event for women of color to demand more, raise their voices for more and seek solutions for more. The world can’t play with pay as Black women deserve parity. They can ask for a closing of the wage gap as employees, consumers and at the voting booth. Beyonce famously doesn’t grant interviews. But Anna Wintour of Vogue decided on the next best thing — she not only landed a Beyonce cover, she let Beyonce write her own story. In her words. On her second pregnancy: I was 218 pounds the day I gave birth to Rumi and Sir. I was swollen from toxemia and had been on bed rest for over a month. My health and my babies’ health were in danger, so I had an emergency C-section. We spent many weeks in the NICU. My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me. I am proud to have been a witness to his strength and evolution as a man, a best friend, and a father. I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later. Today I have a connection to any parent who has been through such an experience. On embracing her body: I think it’s important for women and men to see and appreciate the beauty in their natural bodies. That’s why I stripped away the wigs and hair extensions and used little makeup for this shoot. To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller. I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real. Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my ass off until I have it. But right now, my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be. RELATED: Beyonce’s Childhood Home Is On The Market RELATED: Cuteness Overload: Beyonce, Blue Ivy And The Twins Stunt On Vacation [PHOTOS] On kicking down doors for younger artists: It’s important to me that I help open doors for younger artists. There are so many cultural and societal barriers to entry that I like to do what I can to level the playing field, to present a different point of view for people who may feel like their voices don’t matter. Imagine if someone hadn’t given a chance to the brilliant women who came before me: Josephine Baker, Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, and the list goes on. They opened the doors for me, and I pray that I’m doing all I can to open doors for the next generation of talents. If people in powerful positions continue to hire and cast only people who look like them, sound like them, come from the same neighborhoods they grew up in, they will never have a greater understanding of experiences different from their own. They will hire the same models, curate the same art, cast the same actors over and over again, and we will all lose. The beauty of social media is it’s completely democratic. Everyone has a say. Everyone’s voice counts, and everyone has a chance to paint the world from their own perspective. On her ancestry and marriage: “I come from a lineage of broken male-female relationships, abuse of power, and mistrust. Only when I saw that clearly was I able to resolve those conflicts in my own relationship. Connecting to the past and knowing our history makes us both bruised and beautiful.” On her legacy: My mother taught me the importance not just of being seen but of seeing myself. As the mother of two girls, it’s important to me that they see themselves too—in books, films, and on runways. It’s important to me that they see themselves as CEOs, as bosses, and that they know they can write the script for their own lives—that they can speak their minds and they have no ceiling. They don’t have to be a certain type or fit into a specific category. They don’t have to be politically correct, as long as they’re authentic, respectful, compassionate, and empathetic. They can explore any religion, fall in love with any race, and love who they want to love. I want the same things for my son. I want him to know that he can be strong and brave but that he can also be sensitive and kind. I want my son to have a high emotional IQ where he is free to be caring, truthful, and honest. It’s everything a woman wants in a man, and yet we don’t teach it to our boys. I hope to teach my son not to fall victim to what the internet says he should be or how he should love. I want to create better representations for him so he is allowed to reach his full potential as a man, and to teach him that the real magic he possesses in the world is the power to affirm his own existence. I’m in a place of gratitude right now. I am accepting of who I am. I will continue to explore every inch of my soul and every part of my artistry.
