Erykah Badu Strips Again For Vibe Cover

Singer says ‘Window Seat’ video was controversial because ‘sexuality that’s not for male consumption’ makes people uncomfortable. By Jayson Rodriguez Erykah Badu on the July cover of Vibe Magazine Photo: Vibe Magazine Erykah Badu appears to be topless on the cover of the new issue of Vibe, and in her interview with the magazine, she continues to discuss nudity in her “Window Seat” video . In the clip, which Badu debuted on her own website back in March, the singer strips her clothes off as she nears Dallas’ Dealey Plaza as a symbolic gesture of freedom. The move, however, drew criticism for a number of reasons, including the fact that the shoot occurred near the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. The singer also received backlash simply for disrobing in a video; online commentators suggested she was using sex to sell her music. Badu scoffed at that notion, though. “I look at some other videos. I’m not naming names, because I don’t want that to be mentioned. There is the thing with sexuality,” Badu told Vibe. “I’m naked for 13 seconds, and these people are naked the whole time and gyrating and saying come ‘lick on my lollipop’ and ‘suck on my cinnamon roll’ and, you know, suggesting sex. People are uncomfortable with sexuality that’s not for male consumption. Could be ’cause I did it in public too. Do you think people would have been complaining if I had on high-heel shoes?” Badu was charged with disorderly conduct over the video and later pleaded not guilty . Badu splits the June/July cover of Vibe with Nicki Minaj, whose cover shot portrays her as a sexy anime-style girl in a maid’s uniform. The pair follows Young Jeezy and Trey Songz, and Chris Brown and Drake as split-cover subjects in the magazine since it re-launched late last year. DJ Khaled Calls Performing With Rick Ross, Diddy, T.I. ‘Legendary’

Super-DJ also shot remix video for ‘All I Do Is Win’ over the weekend, with cameos by Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, T-Pain and more. By Shaheem Reid DJ Khaled says every Memorial Day weekend in Miami is a “moooovie,” but the past few days in South Beach were extra crazy. “I got stories to tell,” Khaled told MTV News on Tuesday (June 1) about the festivities. “It’s gonna be a hot f—ing summer.” Khaled, Rick Ross and Diddy were virtually inseparable over the holiday, hitting club Cameo on Thursday, an assortment of hot spots on Friday, then Mansion on Saturday, the Best of the Best concert on Sunday and, oh yeah, they found time over the weekend to film a video for the remix of Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win,” off his Victory LP. “Call it Rick Ross-DJ Khaled-Supreme Team-Puff Daddy takeover on a whole ‘nother level,” Khaled said. “You already know every Memorial Day Weekend — Miami is ours. We always on fire. This year was special because we shot the remix video of ‘All I Do Is Win.’ Everyone showed up, from Jada to Busta to Puff Daddy to Nicki Minaj to Fabolous to T-Pain to myself. “I know it’s hard to say these types of things, [but] there’s only one remix video I know that’s exciting like this, it’s called ‘Flava in Ya Ear,’ ” Khaled insisted, recalling Craig Mack’s Hype Williams-directed black-and-white clip. “First of all, the [‘All I Do Is Win’] record is the biggest record in the country. To shoot the remix video is something so amazing. It’s coming out soon. I know there’s photos all over the Net, but it’s exciting.” But if there was a soundtrack to Memorial Day in Miami, it was Rick Ross’ The Albert Anastasia EP (out since Thursday), according to Khaled. The super-DJ said he could feel the tape’s immediate impact. “The whole mixtape is crazy. But it’s two records on there that’s lighting up the streets,” Khaled testified. “I don’t know if you remember when we dropped ‘Hustlin’.’ That’s the response we getting, but with two records at the same time. We tore up the club performing ‘All I Do Is Win.’ And the two records off the mixtape, one is called [Blowin’ Money Fast] ‘B.M.F.’ and the other is called ‘MC Hammer.’ These two records, quote me: DJ Khaled says these are going to be the biggest things in the street. It’s already causing problems. It’s already causing problems on a whole ‘nother level. Teflon Don the album — it’s a classic. These records right here are just waking the streets up on a whole ‘nother level. I don’t want nobody to get us confused.” The most exciting part about celebrating a big weekend is getting to interact with the fans, Khaled said. “We did club Mansion the other night. It was DJ Khaled, Puff Daddy, Ross was there, T.I. was there. It was amazing. It was a legendary moment. Everybody performed. I remember when we dropped the ‘B.M.F.’ and ‘MC Hammer’ record, I looked at Ross because the crowd took a deep breath. It had that ‘Hustlin’ ‘ feeling. Best of the Best, it was great because, me and Ross, I threw on ‘All I Do Is Win’ — the crowd went crazy. And we actually performed it three times. Ross, Busta, Nicki, Puff was all in the place to be. It all felt good.” Are you excited to see how the remix video for “All I Do Is Win” turned out? Tell us in the comments! Diddy Says Nicki Minaj Is ‘One Of The Great Ones’

‘Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun,’ the mogul says of managing the Young Money MC. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy Photo: MTV News Diddy is expanding his empire. The mogul recently announced the opening of a management firm that he’ll oversee in addition to his existing business holdings, which include a restaurant, clothing line and, of course, Bad Boy Records. Rick Ross was the first to ink with Diddy , describing the knowledge Diddy has as “priceless.” And now, Nicki Minaj is finalizing the paperwork that will allow the Last Train to Paris superstar to guide her career. The Young Money femcee has already been in the studio with Diddy, and he’s been singing her praises. “Nicki Minaj, she’s definitely one of the great ones,” Diddy told MTV News, speaking publicly for the first time about his new signee. “She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun.” So far, Nicki Minaj has released only one single, the Sean Garrett-assisted “Massive Attack,” which boasts a Hype Williams-directed video. But she’s been prominently featured on a slew of other artist’s records, including Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad,” Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” and Mariah Carey’s “Up Out My Face.” In February, the Queens lyricist spoke with MTV News and said she’s in no rush to release her yet-untitled debut. “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” Minaj explained. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. “It’s nonexistent in categories. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things either. We’ll see.” Do you think Diddy will do a good job of managing artists like Nicki Minaj? Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’ Video: Spotting The Pop-Culture References

From ‘New Jack City’ to a real-life conversation with Nicki Minaj, we examine the clip’s influences. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video Photo: Nino Brown/New Line There are quite a few pop-culture references in Lil Wayne’s just-premiered “I’m Single” video . If you missed a few, we’re here to catch you up. The video starts off with a real-life conversation between Wayne and Nicki Minaj about whether he has a girlfriend. The footage was taken a little before Weezy, Nicki and Drake joined Young Jeezy onstage during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour stop at Madison Square Garden in early March. Throughout the video, we see instances where the woman who plays Wayne’s main squeeze in the video, model Natasha, goes a little loony. “I’m Single” director DJ Scoob Doo told MTV News that the woman’s actions in the video were inspired by the 1990 Martin Lawrence film “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.” Natasha’s character even takes a large knife and, after contemplating slicing a promo poster of Weezy, instead takes her frustrations out on a cake. The message on the cake reads “Nino Brown 3,” which is an upcoming DVD collaboration between Wayne and Scoob Doo. The two have previously released the reality DVDs “The Nino Brown Story” and a sequel. Speaking of Nino, Wayne shouts out one of the greatest villains in cinematic history with the line “Had to cancel that bi— like Nino.” That’s a reference to the classic scene in “New Jack City,” when Wesley Snipes’ character Nino Brown casually drops his girlfriend Selina after she complains about his murderous ways. “I’ve seen you kill too many people, Nino,” Selina, played by actress Michael Michele, said in the film. Snipes then throws his girl on the table, pours champagne on her and orders her to be canceled. Undercover cop Scotty Appleton (Ice-T) escorts her out. Also in the song, Weezy raps that his mistress has a deranged desire: “She wish she could cut my d— off and take it with her.” Can anyone say Lorena Bobbitt ? Did we miss any references? Drake Explains Why No Other Young Money Artists Are On His Tour

Artists like Nicki Minaj and Gudda Gudda ‘are doing their own thing,’ he says. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News After Monday night’s kickoff in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Drake’s Away From Home Tour is under way. The outing lasts until the end of May, so fans of the 23 year-old performer have ample time to catch and opening acts Francis and the Lights and K-OS on the road. But what about his family from Young Money? “A lot of the Young Money artists are doing their own thing,” Drake explained to MTV News on his opening night. “I know Nicki [Minaj] is recording her album. Gudda is on a run right now. “It was never brought to me that anybody had the time permitting to be on this tour for two months,” Drizzy continued. “Everybody is working on their albums and stuff like that. I love what a lot of people in Young Money have going on right now. But at the same time, I did say to myself I didn’t want other rappers on this tour opening up.” Drake also said that he didn’t feel comfortable placing his fellow Young Money artists on an “opening” level below him. “I didn’t want to stick anybody in my opening slot,” he added. “Nicki Minaj is a superstar, so to ask her to be on [the tour], unless we split the tour and both had equal time … Gudda, same thing. Gudda has his own things going on. They’re my friends, my family, I just don’t feel comfortable being like, ‘You wanna come open for me?’ It’s a weird thing. But I love ’em all. They’re all doing great things.” Who would you want to see opening up for Drake? Share your ideas in the comments. Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Drake

Nicki Minaj Pulls Out Of Rihanna/ Ke$ha Tour

‘I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album,’ Minaj tweets. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Just days after it was announced that Nicki Minaj would be joining Ke$ha as an opening act for Rihanna ‘s Last Girl on Earth Tour this summer, the Young Money rapper has decided to not participate, according to a tweet she posted on Wednesday (April 7). Late Tuesday, Minaj took to Twitter to hint at the news. “*sighs* how … how do i say this … hope the barbz [her fans] will understand … hate letting them down. *sighs again while in deep thought*,” she wrote. And on Wednesday afternoon, the rapper dropped the news . “Barbz I’m sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi’s tour. I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand,” she tweeted. At press time, reps for Minaj and Rihanna had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment. Minaj’s decision to focus on her debut album comes at a bit of a surprise, since she told MTV News in February that she wasn’t in a rush to release the album because she felt people need to get used to seeing a female rapper again. “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” she said. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does.” However, fans can certainly see Minaj in the video for her single “Massive Attack.” A clip for the video, which features Amber Rose and producer Sean Garrett was released last week. While Minaj’s name is still on the tour announcement on Rihanna’s official site , it appears likely that the tour will proceed with a new opening act. Related Artists Nicki Minaj Rihanna Ke$ha
