Source: Stephane Cardinale – Corbis / Getty Nicki Minaj Demands Tracy Chapman Throw Out Lawsuit Nicki Minaj is trying to bring her beef with folk singer Tracy Chapman to an end. According to reports from The Blast , Minaj is demanding that the judge throw out Chapman’s lawsuit against her. The rapper is claiming that she did absolutely nothing wrong and does not owe the singer any damages. If you’ll recall, this lawsuit comes following Chapman filed a case against the Queens native for leaking the track “Sorry,” which features an uncleared sample of Chapman’s song “Baby Can I Hold You.” Nicki was very vocal about wanting the song–which features her former love interest Nas–to be on her album Queen , but Chapman continually refused to clear it. Minaj loved that specific record so much that she was considering pushing the entire album back in hopes of coming to some sort of agreement with Chapman–but that never ended up happening. The two parties weren’t able to come to an agreement, which left the record on the cutting room floor–that is, until the song “somehow” got into the hands of Funkmaster Flex, who premiered it without permission or clearance from Chapman. That is what led to Tracy’s lawyers to hit Nicki Minaj with a lawsuit that alleges she’s the one at fault for the radio leak. Tracy Chapman is seeking unspecified damages and an injunction prohibiting Minaj from using her music in the future. Nicki, on the other hand, is arguing that the song was fair use and alleges that Chapman doesn’t even own the copyrights to the sample. She stands firm in her allegations that this case has no merit and is demanding that the entire lawsuit be thrown out.

Safaree Showed Up Late To ‘Love & Hip Hop’ Reunion, Cited Security & Mental Health Concerns

Safaree Samuels continues to embrace the struggle. The reality star, and Nicki Minaj’s ex, show up late to the Love & Hip Hop: New York reunion taping in Atlanta, and of course it was dramatic.  Reports TMZ : Sources close to the situation tell TMZ, Safaree was supposed to appear in Atlanta Wednesday to shoot the ‘LHH’ show. We’re told last Friday he was committed to do the special — but he had a change of heart on Monday — backing out due to what he called safety and mental health concerns.  Our sources say VH1’s parent company, Viacom, promised Safaree they’d put necessary measures in place to make sure he felt safe — including additional security if a fight broke out — but he wouldn’t budge. Although at first it was thought he totally skipped the reunion, he arrived about halfway through the taping. Well, at least he’s happily engaged. — Photo: Getty

Cardi B’s deleted her Instagram in the wake of her Grammys win. Before Bodak Bardirella shut down her page she posted (and deleted) a BIG mad message to critics who think she’s undeserving of her Best Rap Album win. Not only that she called out BET for sending out that “Nicki Minaj’s getting dragged by her lace front” tweet in response to her trophy. “It’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else, that’s not my style and that’s not what I’m with and I don’t support that,” said Cardi. “However, I been taking a lot of s*** today, I’m seeing a lot of bulls*** today and I saw a lot of s*** last night. And I’m sick of this s*** I worked hard for my motherf***g album.” According to Cardi, she had support last year over “Bodak Yellow” but suddenly she’s getting pushback. Not only that she recorded “Invasion of Privacy” while heavily pregnant with baby Kulture all while detractors claimed her career was over because she was with child. “I remember last year when I didn’t win for ‘Bodak Yellow,’ everybody was like, ‘Cardi got snubbed, Cardi got snubbed.’ Now this year’s a f****g problem?” she said. “My album went two-time platinum, my n***. And every chart that there was, my album was always top 10. Number one album as well. “I f***g worked my a** off, locked myself in the studio for three months, my n***, then went to sleep in my own bed, sometimes for four days straight, pregnant. Some songs couldn’t even get on the f*****g album because my nose was so f****g stuffy from my pregnancy. N****s couldn’t sleep, n***s couldn’t do s***. While everybody was harassing me, ‘You not gonna do it—we know you’re pregnant, your career is over!’” After the rant, Cardi’s IG went missing entirely and fans are reeling. Following Cardi B ‘s win for Best Rap Album on Sunday, BET tweeted that the “Hard White” rapper was “being dragged by her lacefront.” Nicki found the tweet offensive and responded by announcing that her and the rest of the YM camp will not be performing at the BET Experience Weekend in June. Young Money will no longer be apart of the BET Experience or award show. And now, t he Oscar-nominated film will be returning to theaters for Black History Month with the added benefit of spreading news of a $1.5 million grant program from the United Negro College Fund. EW.com reports : One day after Black Panther won the top film prize at the SAG Awards, Disney announced that the Marvel blockbuster will be returning to theaters for one week. Black Panther will screen at select AMC Theatres locations between Feb. 1 and 7 — and in celebration of Black History Month, tickets will be free. In addition to the free screenings, Disney revealed that it will give a $1.5 million grant to the United Negro College Fund, which provides scholarships to help minority students attend college. “Black Panther is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. “The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it. We’re proud to provide thousands of free screenings of Black Panther in hopes it will continue to inspire audiences, and to support UNCF with a $1.5 million grant to make the dream of higher education a reality for more students.” How dope is that?
