When Promotional Artwork Is Better Than a Movie: Justice Edition

Nicolas Cage in a glittery face mask. January Jones inexplicably playing bass guitar. Jones being held hostage at gunpoint. Cage getting handcuffed. Jones and Cage raging at Mardi Gras. Separately, all of these images could be part of an entertaining movie. Unfortunately, when strung together though, they give us the curious marketing for Roger Donaldson’s long-delayed thriller Justice .

What Happened to Nicolas Cage’s eBay Vampire Photo? Let’s Go to the Animated Videotape

The Web experienced one of those slow-news-week stirrings last weekend when a seller on eBay put up incontrovertible photographic evidence (ahem) of Nicolas Cage chilling for a portrait back around the time of the Civil War. Cage is undead, the argument (AHEM) went, and so what better way to capitalize on this bracing phenomenological development than to unload the 19th-century artifact to the highest bidder? Anyway, that auction came and went, but not without the definitive, deeply necessary 60-second animated recap you were praying for.

REVIEW: Straw Dogs Remake Trades Edgy Complexity For Genre Schlock

As I’ve mentioned , I’ve never been the type to get hives over the remake announcements that seem to crop up in the trades every other day, or who feels that a bad redo can somehow denigrate its original. I understand that the idea of people associating The Wicker Man with Nicolas Cage karate kicking Leelee Sobieski into a wall instead of the 1973 Christopher Lee version can be a little painful, but overall what’s the harm, so long as the film at least tries to bring something interesting to the table?

In Honor of Kevin Smith’s Pilot, 5 Filmmakers We’d Rather See Host a Talk Show

Today, Vulture reported that outspoken filmmaker , discriminated plane passenger and interview over-sharer Kevin Smith is developing a half-hour syndicated talk show. Which is fine, and honestly, a naturally-fitting format for Smith. No disrespect to Smith — even if we did once resolve to silence him by wiring shut his mouth — but he already has podcast and Twitter platforms to preach from, and we’d rather see a few other filmmakers host a talk show first. Take a look at our suggestions and share your own in the comment section below.

Which of These Three Actors Makes the Most Believable Movie Blogger?

Today in news that doesn’t relate to Comic-Con: Deadline reports that Steve Carell, Jack Black and Nicolas Cage are in various stages of negotiations to star in Frank Or Francis for director and writer Charlie Kaufman. Details on the film are slim, but when it was first announced back in March , Frank Or Francis reportedly dealt with a filmmaker and the blogger “who takes delight in berating his cinematic talent.” (It sorta sounds like that movie Pitchfork that Jonah Hill was rumored for ; bloggers, they’re not just for blogs anymore!) Assuming Carell, Black and Cage sign on for Frank Or Francis — and assuming at least two of them are in talks for the lead roles — this news raises a fairly legitimate question: who among them is believable as a blogger?

Watch the Surreal First Trailer for Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill

Wow. Just wowwwwwww . When it was announced last year that Adam Sandler would play his own twin sister in the comedy Jack and Jill , it seemed like a joke — specifically, the type that Sandler and Judd Apatow made about the star’s career in Funny People . Only, it’s not a joke; Jack and Jill is real, and it’s got the craziest trailer you’ll see all summer.
