Joel Madden and Nicole Richie have made it official. The longtime partners and parents of two tied the knot Saturday in a lavish yet private ceremony at the Beverly Hills home of her father, Lionel Richie. While the details are being kept under wraps, we do know there was an elephant in the room … or at least outside of Lionel’s estate. Really, there was . Congratulations to the newlyweds! Nicole Richie walked down the aisle in a Marchesa gown that was custom made in NYC, with celebrity hairstyle guru Byron Williams doing his thing. Joel’s twin brother Benji Madden took care of best man duties, while Samantha Ronson served as a bridesmaid in the musically inclined wedding party. Her best friend Masha Gordon was the maid of honor, with the wedding party also including Joel and Nicole’s adorable children Harlow and Sparrow. Nicole’s former BFF / Simple Life mate Paris Hilton was not in attendance, however. Benji was probably grateful to miss out on that awkward reunion. Delivery trucks and other personnel swarmed Lionel’s house all week and security was super tight, with the street around the estate closed to traffic. As such, there’s a surprising lack of photos of the guests – Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Kris Jenner and others among them – making appearances. Good for them, keeping it so private. Congratulations on pulling off that feat … and on the momentous occasion itself! Nice job Joel and Nicole !

The location is Nicole’s father Lionel Richie’s house and the ceremony will be small and “winter-themed” ceremony, as “Nicole is obsessed with the season.” She did name her daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden, so we’ll buy it. “A stage is being built over the pool so the guests have more space to dance,” a source says. “It’s cool because people will be dancing on top of the water.” Nicole made a trip to NYC to be fitted for her Marchesa wedding gown. “Nicole brought her stylist Simone Harouche with her,” an insider says of her gown. “A lot of thought went into her dress – it was a huge priority for her.” Joel and Nicole have decided to keep the guest list tight. “Mindy [Weiss, the wedding planner] called the guests personally,” a friend of the couple says. “She didn’t invite a bunch of her celebrity friends,” an insider explains to Radar Online, a decision that “has apparently upset a bunch of people.” But certain stars that are close to the couple, like Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Lohan’s ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson, will most likely be there. Nicole’s 2-year-old daughter Harlow will be the flower girl, and Lionel will escort Nicole down the aisle. Nicole’s BFF Masha Gordon will be maid of honor. The best man? Benji Madden, of course!

The date has FINALLY been set for the wedding of Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, at least if you’re inclined to believe anonymous Radar Online sources. For what it’s worth, the alleged date is in early December. The former Simple Life star and her rocker fiancee are set to tie the knot before a star-studded guest list at the Beverly Hill home of Nicole’s proud dad. Are Nicole and Joel (with Harlow) about to make it official? “Christmas has always been about family and faith for Nicole and Joel , so there is not better time of the year for them to wed,” an insider told the site. While the super-secret details of theirs nuptials have not yet been released, close pal Christina Aguilera and Samantha Ronson are planning to attend. The maid of honor will be Nic’s best friend, Masha Gordon, Joel’s twin brother, Benji, will be best man, and their daughter Harlow will be a flower girl. Father Lionel Richie will walk Nicole down the aisle. The pair, who confirmed their engagement in February after dating since 2006, also have a son, Sparrow. If the big day really is near, congratulations!

For the second consecutive year, stores around the city will stay open for extended hours offering drinks, DJ sets and discounts to promote the retail industry in an elaborate effort coordinated by the style bigwigs at Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America among other organizations. Retailers are also bringing in big names to hawk their products and dazzle the crowds. Macy’s in Herald Square has arranged an all-star lineup that includes an appearance from Diddy , who will cruise the city in a Fashion Night Out party bus and finish things off with an afterparty at the Fifth Avenue Sean John flagship with DJs Prostyle and Envy in tow. Also slated to hit the department giant are designer Kimora Lee Simmons and Jennifer Lopez , who is promoting her fragrance Love and Glamour. Fashion-forward celebs Mary J. Blige , Nicole Richie and Victoria Beckham will hold court at the tony Fifth Ave. establishment Bergdorf Goodman. Meanwhile, child-stars-turned-fashion-moguls Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen will appear at Barneys New York. Musicians who keep a well-styled foot in the fashion world are also at the helm of several of the night’s festivities. Superproducer Pharrell Williams will be on hand for an event at the downtown outpost of his Billionaire Boys Club’s brand, where a (not-so) surprise show will kick off the event in the early evening. Designer and songstress Gwen Stefani will reportedly show up at a Broadway Sephora location.
