Taylor Kitsch Talks Prepping For ‘John Carter’

‘It’s such a grand movie, and John is in every shot of this film,’ actor says. By Kevin Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Disney Not just anyone can be John Carter . Taylor Kitsch found that out the hard way while auditioning for the role, his first blockbuster as the lead. And even though he had been unfamiliar with the John Carter books before, the role was, according to Kitsch, something he was “willing to do anything for.” In the upcoming adaption of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ beloved “A Princess of Mars,” Kitsch plays a Civil War veteran who finds himself transported to another planet. The Martians task Carter with saving the planet and rescuing the captive princess, played by Lynn Collins. The production finally came together recently after lingering in development for years and losing Jon Favreau, who was once attached to direct. The journey began by meeting with the director Andrew Stanton , best known for his work on Pixar films. “I knew of Stanton, of course, and I was a huge fan,” Kitsch says. “He was a big fan of Riggins, my ‘Friday Night Lights’ character, so right away we kind of pushed each other because we were so excited about just meeting one another.” After their initial meeting, Stanton took Kitsch through some of the preproduction work that the director and his team had already finished. “It’s literally floor-to-ceiling in prep and pictures, storyboards, arc of John Carter, arc of the Tharks, Dejah,” Kitsch said. “It’s not overwhelming, but it’s like, OK, this guy’s not screwing around.” That first meeting was just the beginning for Kitsch. The producers put him through “a lot,” but he understood that it all needed to happen. “It’s such a grand movie, and John is in every shot of this film, so of course it’s a big gap. You go on film, and you read for him a couple times and then you get to the screen test and you’re starting to battle through this,” Kitsch said. But Stanton was there for his eventual star every step of the way, especially during the two-day screen test. “This really says a lot about who he is. He takes you the day before and does a walkthrough,” Kitsch said. “He just puts everything level when you get there on the day. That just helped me settle in a lot.” Check out everything we’ve got on “John Carter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Michael Jackson Immortal Album Due November 21

LP will feature Jackson songs and mash-ups from Cirque du Soleil show of same name. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour Photo: Sunshine Sachs/ Cirque du Soleil The second posthumous Michael Jackson album is slated to hit stores on November 21. But unlike last year’s Michael, which featured unreleased tracks from the late pop icon, Immortal will serve as the soundtrack to the just-launched Cirque du Soleil show of the same name. The album, sorry, “musical tapestry,” is entitled Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, and it will feature reworked versions of some of Jackson’s most beloved hits, mash-ups and never-before-released outtakes of the late King of Pop’s tunes. Among the latter is an alternate take on the Jackson 5 staple “ABC” and a choir-assisted rendition of “They Don’t Care About Us.” The visually stunning show — in the tradition of previous Cirque musicals featuring the music of Elvis and the Beatles — kicked off in Montreal on Sunday and is slated to travel throughout North America and the rest of the world. It will hit 60 North American cities before wrapping up in June in Chicago and taking up a residency at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Cirque writer/director Jamie King recently told Billboard that the idea was to be as inventive as possible with the MJ arrangements, treating them like Cirque did the “Love” soundtrack to the Beatles show, in which the Fab Four’s tunes were reshaped in previously unheard ways to create a seamless mixtape of trippy sounds. “Definitely all the hits that the fans want to hear are there,” King said. ” ‘Beat It,’ ‘Thriller,’ ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ ‘ — the big, iconic songs are there, with some other songs mixed and matched throughout. There’s some younger Michael in there as well, ‘Ben,’ the Motown stuff. … It’s a mixed bag of tricks in terms of songs. It’s a music-driven show, so we’re making sure the music is the narrative that drives us and takes us on the journey.” The collection will come in several versions , including a deluxe $50 set that features the CD, a T-shirt and show program. It will feature more than 40 of Jackson’s greatest hits. In a statement, Kevin Antunes, musical designer of the Cirque du Soleil show, added, “Michael’s legacy as the greatest entertainer of our lifetime is inspiring beyond words. It was clear from the start that Michael’s voice and overall musical essence was the sole/soul source of creative energy driving the project. From the studio to the stage, there’s an undeniable integrity and resolute truth in Michael’s vocal performances that are highlighted in the Immortal arrangements. It was built with love and respect for Michael’s music, his family and his millions of fans around the world.” Among the songs included on the deluxe version are: “Working Day and Night,” “Ben,” “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground),” “Beat It/ Jam/ State of Shock,” “Remember the Time/ Bad,” “Man in the Mirror,” “Can You Feel It/ Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough/ Billie Jean/ Black or White,” “Human Nature/ Speechless,” “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” “I’ll Be There,” “Gone Too Soon” and “Is It Scary/ Thriller/ Ghost/ Somebody’s Watching Me/ Threatened.” In other MJ news, in the midst of the manslaughter trial of former Jackson physician Conrad Murray , the Michael Forever tribute concert is slated to take place in Cardiff, Wales, on October 8. The show, hosted by Jamie Foxx , will feature performances from the Black Eyed Peas , , Ne-Yo, Cee Lo Green , Jennifer Hudson , Leona Lewis, Craig David, Pixie Lott, Alexandra Burke, Alien Ant Farm, Motown legend Smokey Robinson and the first live performance by Jackson sibling LaToya in more than 20 years. T.I. Gets King’s Welcome At ’11 BET Hip Hop Awards

Newly freed Tip opened the show, while Eminem, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, many more electrified crowd at show airing October 11. By Rob Markman T.I. at the 2011 BET Awards Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images ATLANTA — It was only fitting the “King of the South” made his regal return on a stage so close to where his troubles began back in 2007, but also so near where he first got his start in the game. After completing his 11-month prison sentence on Thursday, T.I. opened the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards with Young Jeezy as the two performed the Snowman’s new single “F.A.M.E.” The awards show, which taped at the Atlanta Civic Center on Saturday, is set to air on Tuesday, October 11; comedian Mike Epps hosted with assistance from Da Brat. While T.I. arguably provided the show’s grandest moment, Rick Ross and his Maybach Music crew, Lupe Fiasco, Big Sean, Heavy D, DMX and Wiz Khalifa all electrified the crowd with hyped-up performances throughout the night. Rap legend LL Cool J received the show’s highest honor when he was presented with the I Am Hip-Hop Award for his career of achievements in music, movies and television. The awards show’s black carpet was equally star-studded. Rival rap crews like Ross’ Maybach Music rubbed shoulders with G-Unit’s newest members Shawty Lo and Kidd Kidd in a show of peace, love and appreciation for the culture. As most fans know, BET’s pre-taped rap ciphers typically generate some the of the ceremony’s most buzz-worthy moments, with memorable performances from Kayne’s G.O.O.D. Music crew, Mos Def and the Roots’ Black Thought going viral in recent years. This year, the network upped the ante adding more rhyme ciphers than ever before. MCs like French Montana, Tech N9ne, Big K.R.I.T., Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Maybach Music Group, Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf and Eminem all traded rhymes while DJ Premier spun the beats. Among the leading nominees are Lil Wayne (who earned a record-setting 18 nods), Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj and Waka Flocka Flame, while stars like NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, Tracee Ellis Ross and Nelly were among the presenters. Tune in to the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday, October 11, at 8pm ET to see who took home the prizes! Related Artists T.I.

I am one of the only three fans featured in that trailer and it…

I am one of the only three fans featured in that trailer and it was my best friend who spoke those words.  Just over a year ago, on August 22nd 2010 in London Ontario, five of my closest friends and I went to the Justin Bieber My World 2.0 tour and it was the best concert of my life, for more than one reason. We weren’t doing anything half assed for this night. All of us spent hours on our tank tops and we decked out our cars to the extreme, blaring Biebs music and dancing out the sun roofs. As we drove down the street, we caught the attention of producers for what was soon to be Justin Bieber’s documentary movie. They ran up to us and straight up asked if we wanted to be interviewed for the movie. Of course after many screams, we rushed to the side of the arena and did a personal interview for nearly 7 minutes. Little did we know, much of that interview would be seen by Justin Bieber and millions of others around the world. As if that wasn’t enough, half way through the concert when Justin was riding on his infamous heart shaped machine through the crowd, a lady (I later discovered from watching the movie was one of Justin’s managers, Allison) pulled me into the aisle and told me to get my friend. They all were standing on chairs down the row, so I figured they would merely be scolded and I randomly grabbed the closest one to me. But she was very specific, she wanted my friend Rachael only. When we finally got her, all we heard was a scream and her being whisked away. Within the next two minutes, our friend was on stage being sung to by Justin Bieber himself (Yes, she is the girl in the movie who is sobbing her eyes out and wailing her love for him).  It was an  unbelievable  experience in itself, and I couldn’t imagine how much better it could get until I received a call from Los Angeles asking for my parent’s signature to be officially allowed to be participated in the film , and two weeks later to see myself on a flat screen TV, split seconds after Usher was on screen. After the trailer craziness, the movie finally was released and we were featured over four times together and individually. One day after the entire affair was long over, I was shuffling through my drawers and I found a disgruntled and ripped Bucket List that I had thrown out on one dreary day. I had thrown it out because I believed my very first number, ‘Be In a Justin Bieber Video’, could never come true. I am pleased to say, I have crossed that off my list of things to do before I die. Justin Bieber has given me and my friends a story to share with our grandchildren. He gave me hope. Hope you enjoy, Ivana  Read more from the original source: I am one of the only three fans featured in that trailer and it…

Michael Jackson Doctor Left ‘Panicked’ Voicemail After Death

In addition to assistant’s testimony, bodyguard claims MJ’s kids were in the room when he died. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Kara Warner Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images Day two of testimony in the manslaughter trial of former Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray featured more damning revelations from MJ’s personal assistant and head of security, as well as employees of AEG Live, the firm that was promoting the singer’s 50-show This Is It attempted comeback tour. Among the revelations Wednesday (September 28), an attorney for AEG Live, Kathy Jorrie, described the contract she wrote up between AEG, Murray and Jackson. The document specified that Murray was to be paid a $150,000-a-month retainer, even when This Is It was on hiatus, and that the cardiologist requested a CPR machine for Jackson during the run of the shows in London. As for why he needed a machine used for resuscitation, TMZ reported that Murray claimed he didn’t want to take chances given MJ’s age (50) and the strenuous nature of the show. Jorrie also said that in a conversation with Murray on June 24, 2009 — the day before Jackson’s death — the doctor said he’d seen his client perform and that he appeared to be in “perfect” health. She also confirmed that the contract — drafted 10 days before Jackson’s death — had never been signed by any of the parties and that it contained revisions requested by Murray, including retroactive pay dating back to May 2009 through March 2010 and a clause exempting him from refunding any of his monthly retainer if Jackson changed his mind or canceled the tour. In an effort to lay out the timeline of events on the day of Jackson’s death, prosecutors called the pop icon’s personal assistant, Michael Amir Williams, who discussed a panicked voicemail he received from Murray. After watching an “amazing” rehearsal the night before, Williams said he picked up an urgent voicemail from Murray the next day at 12:13 p.m. asking him to call back right away to discuss a “bad reaction” MJ had. When Williams arrived at Jackson’s rented Beverly Hills estate, the first thing he saw was his boss on a gurney and a “frantic-looking Murray, who, after Jackson was pronounced dead, confided to Williams that there was some “cream Michael wouldn’t want the world to know about” at the house. Williams drove Murray back to the mansion to retrieve the “cream,” and after checking with Jackson’s head of security, they let the doctor back into the house. AEG Live co-CEO Paul Gongaware was back on the stand again Wednesday, testifying that Murray had initially asked for the exorbitant sum of $5 million per year to take care of Jackson. When the singer insisted that he wanted Murray to take care of him, he instructed Gongaware to call back and offer $150,000 a month. The final witness to testify Wednesday was Jackson’s head of security, Faheem Muhammad, who described arriving on the scene to see Murray frantically trying to resuscitate the fallen pop star, while two of Jackson’s children, Paris and Prince, looked on. Muhammad said Jackson appeared to be dead when he arrived and that when he noticed the children in the room, he took them downstairs. Muhammad added that he heard Murray asking if anyone knew CPR, which prompted fellow bodyguard Alberto Alvarez to try to help. On Tuesday, the opening day of the trial, in addition to disturbing photos of Jackson and a voicemail in which the singer’s speech was slurred and garbled, the jury heard from longtime friend and choreographer Kenny Ortega , who said he could tell something was not right with Jackson. Murray has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and administering the fatal dose of the surgical anesthetic propofol that caused Jackson’s death and faces four years in prison and the loss of his medical license if found guilty. Defense attorney Ed Chernoff told the jury Tuesday that Jackson caused his own death by swallowing eight 2-milligram pills of the anti-anxiety drug Lorazepam, as well as injecting himself with a dose of propofol that instantly killed him. Testimony in the trial continues Thursday. Related Artists Michael Jackson

‘Emotional’ Roc Nation rapper will head to the store today to buy his debut album. By Rob Markman, with reporting by MTV’s Sucker Free J. Cole Photo: C Brandon/ Redferns On Tuesday (September 27), J. Cole finally got up off the bench. The Roc Nation rapper has presented each of his mixtapes — The Come Up, The Warm Up, and Friday Night Lights — with a sports analogy, and his major label debut is no different. Cole World: The Sideline Story, in stores today, tells the story of a young star yearning to get his shot at the big time. “I’m pretty sure we’re gonna celebrate somewhere,” Cole told MTV2’s Sucker Free of his release-day plans. “But to me, I think the real satisfaction and joy will come from when I go to the actual store and see that physical CD right there in my hands and I can look at it and go up and pay for it.” It’s been a long road for the Jay-Z prot

Ricki Lake Shows Off Dance Moves, Thinner Body

Rob Kardashian may have been the night’s most improved dancer, but Ricki Lake’s flashy moves during the jive earned her the highest score of the night. The Dancing With the Stars contender, who scored a 23 to lead the pack, is happy about that result – but even more pleased about her shrinking body. Lake, who said she was inspired by former contestant Kirstie Alley’s weight loss on DWTS last season, has already dropped 12 pounds and several sizes. “I’m really getting in great shape,” the talk show host said afterward. “I’ll be wearing less and less clothing. The smaller I get, the less will be covered.” Watch Ricki deliver Monday night’s best routine here: Ricki Lake on Dancing With the Stars (Week 2)
