If Elizabeth Taylor, who died Wednesday at age 79 , was both a great star and a wonderful actress, she was also the frequent object of gentle, or not so gentle, ridicule. She is survived not just by her children and friends, but by lots of old jokes about her vast collection of husbands and diamonds, by the Saturday Night Live parody of her super-soft-focus “White Diamonds” perfume ad, by the legacy of being one-half of a famous couple (twice!) that even the New York Times casually refers to as Dickenliz. How does an actress hang onto her own identity, with so many people appropriating bits of it for their own aims?
The friends are going head-to-head in the second round of the MTV tournament, right now on the Newsroom blog. By James Montgomery Patrick Stump Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage On Monday, when we revealed the second-round matchups in our Musical March Madness tournament , few clashes stood out quite like the #4 Rise Against / #12 Patrick Stump tilt in the Midwest Region. After all, this is a battle between friends. Both acts hail from Chicago, both have come up together (RA frontman Tim McIlrath was actually in a band with Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz back in the day), and both share a respect for the other. So, it’s nothing short of cruel that there can be only one winner.

In MTV-premiered sneak peek, RPattz asks Reese Witherspoon to run away with him. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson in “Water For Elephants Photo: 20th Century Fox What would you do if Robert Pattinson asked you to run away with him? That’s the question Reese Witherspoon is compelled to answer in a brand-new exclusive clip from “Water for Elephants” that we debuted during “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” a 30-minute live chat with the actor on Friday (March 18). The clip comes at a point in the movie when Jacob (Pattinson) and Marlena (Witherspoon) are considering fleeing the circus in which they both work. The pair have fallen for each other, though Marlena is married to an unstable animal trainer named August (Christoph Waltz). His life at risk, Jacob is planning to jump from the circus’ train. “If we don’t get too far, there’s a hotel in Salem,” Marlena tells him. “But don’t stay longer than the night.” “Just come with me,” he says to her considerable vexation. “You think there’s nothing out there for you, but there is. You just can’t see it.” “Jacob, you don’t understand. I can’t. He’ll find me,” she tells him, referring to her husband. “Marlena, there’s a better kind of life that’s meant for you,” he answers. “Whether that life is with me or not, whether you love me or not, it doesn’t matter. But it’s got to be now.” Jacob then reaches out for her hand, offering up a smoldering look that would make Edward Cullen proud. After a few seconds of hesitation, Marlena takes his hand in hers. Wouldn’t you? What happens after that? You’ll just have to find out when the movie hits theaters April 22. Tiger Woods made a rare television appearance last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon – the golfer’s first such interview since the late 2009 “incident.” We don’t have to get into Rachel Uchitel , the car crash and everything else. Fallon started off asking Woods what he’s been up to the last year and a half. “Oh, nothing, nothing… Playing bad golf,” the champion said, smiling. “From a comedian’s stand-point and my monologue writers, thank you,” Fallon said, speaking for all of us. “Your awful pain, we laughed at your pain.” Even Tiger had to chuckle when Fallon added: “Not even making jokes, it kind of wrote itself. Balls, shaft, holes, foursomes … it really writes itself!” Woods had a fairly good time after that, talking about his charitable foundation, his recent top-10 finish and his bachelor pad/backyard golf course. Later, Woods, Fallon and Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler demonstrated Tiger’s new golf video game (ostensibly his reason for being there).
