Casey James and Alex Garcia Lead Semifinal Parade of Men

We’re glad we’re not an American Idol contestant this season. Partly because we have an atrocious voice and would be laughed out of the competition. But also because the judges seem more scatter-brained and confusing than ever: be original, they tell contestants, but not so original that you butcher a song. Be true to who you are, they add, but also mix it up and stand out. For example: If you didn’t like Tyler Grady’s 70s schtick, panel, why did you select him for the semifinals? With that complaint out of the way, we’ve ranked last night’s set of live performances from best to worst: Casey James : Yes, we’re suckers for the Bryan Adams singled “Heaven.” But aside from his voice, we admired James for the classy way he handled the show’s focus on Kara’s fawning over him. Alex Garcia : Stop bringing up his great rendition of “Straight Up” from an earlier round, judges, and focus on each performance. We loved his arrangement on “Sugar We’re Going Down.” Todrick Hall : We’re probably alone with this pick, but the guy took a major risk by re-working a Kelly Clarkson classic and he gets props for that. Lee DeWyze : We had no idea he had this in him. Solid work on “Chasing Cars” and the official male dark horse. John Park : Did he try to do much with a difficult song? Yes, but he wants to marry Shania Twain and the show could use someone with a sense of humor. Alex Lambert : The judges actually did call this one perfectly. He has potential, but just needs to get more comfortable on stage. Aaron Kelly : If he had waited a year or two to try out, could have been a front-runner. Decent performance of “Here Comes Goodbye.” Joe Munoz : We’re just glad he didn’t choose the popular Jason Mraz song everyone sings. Actually not bad, but a lack of stage presence and star power. Jermaine Sellers : Over-singing alert! The guy just tries too hard on stage and it doesn’t look natural. Michael Lynche : We’re huge fans of “Big Mike” as a person. Nice, sweet guy. But he simply lacks the vocal talent. Tyler Grady : We never liked his 1970s look. Way too much of a gimmick. Tim Urban : Actually worse than Lacey Brown the night before. Black Eyed Peas Turn Up The Energy In NYC With Ludacris, LMFAO

David Guetta joins BEP as a special guest during Madison Square Garden show. By Jayson Rodriguez Will.I.Am and Fergie perform at Madison Square Garden Wednesday Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Earlier this month, Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am told MTV News the collective’s The E.N.D. world tour would deliver “things flying and the stage transforming.” Well, the Grammy-winning group’s show came through New York’s Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night (February 24), and the futuristic performance lived up to the hype. From the onset, when the four-person crew entered via platforms underneath the stage, to midway through the set when Will.I.Am freestyled rhymes based on text messages, the Peas put on a concert that was every bit as energetic as their pulsing tracks. As the booming bass of “Let’s Get It Started” drummed up, Apl.de.Ap was the first BEP member to pop up onstage. He was soon followed by Taboo and Fergie. A billowing cloud of smoke enshrouded the stage as Will.I.Am joined his mates, complete with a “Phantom of the Opera”-like mask. “Let’s get it started,” Fergie sang, as lights radiated from the stage into the crowd. “Let’s get it started in here.” The onetime Eazy-E prot

Michael Jackson’s ‘Captain EO’ Returns To Disneyland

‘It was just like when I was 7, and it was amazing,’ one fan says after Tuesday’s premiere. By Joel Hanek Michael Jackson in “Captain EO” Photo: Disney After being sealed away in the Disney Vault for 13 years, Michael Jackson’s “Captain EO” saw the light of day on Tuesday at Disneyland. Disney surprised Jackson fans earlier this week when it issued an announcement that the 1986 film would be returning to the Tomorrowland Theater. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas, the 17-minute 3-D film reportedly cost $30 million to make — setting a record at the time for the most expensive short film ever made. The story follows EO (Jackson) on a journey with his fuzzy alien friends to deliver a gift to the evil Witch Queen (Anjelica Huston). The feature originally ran exclusively in Disney parks from 1986-1997, just four years after the pop star was first charged with child molestation allegations. Interest in the futuristic sci-fi film was reinvigorated after the sudden passing of Michael Jackson last June, when fans began campaigning on Facebook for the movie’s return. According to Disney , more than 500 people (some in EO-inspired costumes) lined up to catch Tuesday’s 10 a.m. premiere. Some had even spent the night outside the gates in order to see the first screening. “I loved it,” one fan commented. “I grew up on it, so I’m so excited that it’s back.” Some of those who enjoyed “Captain EO” during its original run said they were excited to share the experience with a new generation. “I absolutely loved it,” said one parent. “It was just like when I was 7, and it was amazing. I’m so glad I could bring my little one. She’s 3, and she loved it too — huge Michael Jackson fan!” While Disneyland says “Captain EO” is running as a limited engagement, a spokesperson told KTLA that it will continue to play as long as it’s popular. Bar Refaeli Rides The Situation

Certain sentences should just never be written. But unfortunately the above headline had to be, as it is literally, disturbingly and hilariously true. Bar Refaeli’s legs around some random guido’s head? Wow. Mike Sorrentino, a.k.a. The Situation from Jersey Shore, got a chance to party hard with Leonardo DiCaprio just last month at the hot nightclub Voyeur in L.A. You can see where the night headed after many drinks. The Sitch posted some Bar Refaeli pictures on his Facebook page following a shoot with Leo’s girl for Interview magazine. It’s hard to blame him for it, really. As she sits aloft the reality star’s shoulders, champagne in hand, with his muscles flexed beneath her, not even The Situation quotes can do this image justice … WE GOT OURSELVES A SITUATION! That much is quite obvious. But is it one Leonardo DiCaprio would be okay with? Eh, probably. He’s kind of the man .

Lilly Scott and Michelle Delamor Lead Night of Wobbly Women on American Idol

Before we break down each American Idol performance from the first night of live auditions, we must say: The judges seem confused. They chose a slew of Taylor Swift-like guitar players, laid back contestants (Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox , Janell Wheeler, etc.) with a quiet sound, and then complained last night when the women played to their strengths. Simon continually said he didn’t have any “Wow!” moments, but, in many ways, he didn’t select any “Wow!” contestants for the semifinals. Below, in descending order, we rank our favorite performers from the evening: Lilly Scott : Played with the arrangement on “Fixin’ A Hole” by the Beatles and stood out with her original sound/look. Comes across as a “real, indie artist,” as Randy said. Michelle Delamor : Almost seems like a professional singer already. We wouldn’t have chosen an Alicia Keys song because it sets the bar too high, but Delamor can wail. If this is an actual singing competition, based on the best voice, she’s the best woman. Siobhan Magnus : Different, dark, we liked her version of “Wicked Game” a lot. Falls somewhere between the acoustic players mentioned above and Delamor. Crystal Bowersox : We can’t get enough of the harmonica, but that alone won’t be enough to carry her to the title. Katelyn Epperly : Didn’t like the look. As Ellen said, she was trying too hard. But nice, blues-like version of a Beatles song. Didi Benami : The perfect song choice (“The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson), but what will her range be like? Seems like this is the exact performance she’ll put on every week. Paige Miles : The biggest surprise of the night, only because we scarcely saw her on previous weeks. A great voice. Janell Wheeler : Attempted to go outside of her comfort zone and rock out to Heart’s “What About Love.” Points for trying, at least. Katie Stevens : We agree with the judges. You’re adorable. Choose songs that are younger and more fun. But amazing pipes. Ashley Rodriguez : Shockingly in danger already. But unless fans want nothing but Swift wannabes, will give this potential rocker another chance. Haeley Vaughn : Just awkward all around, from her look to her version of “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Lacey Brown : Atrocious. WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE PERFORMER ON THE NIGHT?

‘Jersey Shore’ Cast Laugh It Up On ‘The View’

Snooki, the Situation and company talk about fame, season two and beyond. By Jocelyn Vena “Jersey Shore” cast Photo: Scott Gries/ Picture Group When the cast of “Jersey Shore” stopped by “The View” on Tuesday (February 23), Joy Behar was determined to dig into the personal lives of the cast, wondering just how Italian they are, if they are watching the money they are making and if they use protection when they have sex. But for most of the interview, the MTV reality stars cracked jokes and talked about their newfound fame. When Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was asked when she knew she was famous, she quickly responded, “Pretty much at birth. Just my personality and my look. I don’t know. I mean just look at me. I have good style. I think it’s all the hair.” While it seems like Snooki gets a lot of the attention, Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino and the rest of the crew insisted that no one is jealous of each other’s fame. “Everyone gets their own stuff,” he explained, before turning down the chance to show off his infamous abs. “You know what, I really don’t want to cheapen the product these days. The brand is actually the situation.” Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio added that he’s not about to quit his night job now that he’s famous. “I’m still DJ-ing,” he said. “But now my rate went up.” Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro remained tight-lipped about their relationship status, but Jenni “J-Woww” Farley revealed that she and her boyfriend are back together. “We’re fine now,” she said. “Nobody realizes that we weren’t even together for two weeks.” So, what’s next for the cast? While Vinny Guadagnino is just hoping that season two of “Jersey Shore” takes place somewhere warm, the Situation has a good idea of what he wants to do in the long term: He’s got his sights set on Hollywood. “I got a deep belief in myself that I can do anything, so after maybe doing one or two more years of reality, if that, then I’ll move on to possibly acting,” he said. “If it doesn’t work out, then hey, I tried. I shot for the stars. If you hit the moon, you’re still OK.” Related Photos Where Should The Cast Of ‘Jersey Shore’ Go For Season 2?

‘Glee’ Cast Will Perform At White House Easter Egg Roll

First lady Michelle Obama invited the cast of the hit Fox show to the event on April 15. By Jocelyn Vena First lady Michelle Obama Photo: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images The cast of “Glee” won’t be returning to your television sets until April 13, but they aren’t exactly on vacation. According to EW.com , first lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of the hit Fox comedy to perform at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5. The cast, which includes breakout stars like Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Matthew Morrison, will definitely be on hand to entertain the first family as they scour the White House lawn for hidden Easter eggs. According to reports, the show’s producers made sure to reschedule any shoots so that the cast would be free to perform at the event. It won’t be the first time Sasha and Malia Obama have enjoyed having their favorite artists appear at the White House. Last January, the first daughters got the chance to hang with the Jonas Brothers during a post-inauguration scavenger hunt. While their parents danced the night away at various inaugural balls, the girls had a movie night that ended with the surprise of a lifetime. After they took in the movies, the girls made their way around the house, guessing the answers to trivia questions posed during the scavenger hunt. When they got to the final door, they opened it up to reveal their prize: the Jonas Brothers, which has to be one of the best scavenger-hunt prizes ever. The JoBros just happen to be young Sasha and Malia’s favorite band. Related Photos ‘Glee’ Returns For 2010

Justin Bieber To Appear On ‘Saturday Night Live’

The pop star has been booked to perform on the comedy show’s April 10 episode. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images The demands of Justin Bieber’s fanbase have been answered by the producers of “Saturday Night Live.” Fans of the Canadian heartthrob launched a Twitter campaign, @BieberOnSNL , to get the teen phenomenon on the show, and it quickly amassed 2,600 followers. It also saw its mission realized; the pop star will be the late-night comedy show’s musical guest on April 10. Bieber has already stated that he wants to appear in one of the show’s digital shorts, which have featured the likes of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. He sent out his request via Twitter , saying, “Shoutout to @BieberOnSNL and all the other fans who support me. It’s happening! SNL in APRIL!! Digital Short Music Vid??” The pop phenomenon didn’t mention which songs he might perform on the show, but he did mention that he already had a special guest in mind for his big debut: “Me and Chuck Norris should do SNL together,” he wrote. “That would be good. Very good.” Bieber’s “SNL” appearance comes shortly after the March 23 release of My World 2.0 , the follow-up to his 2009 album My World . Bieber recently sang the opening line in the Haiti-benefiting remake of “We Are The World,” and he just released the video for My World 2.0 ‘s first single, “Baby.” MTV News was on set with Bieber when he shot the clip, which features cameos by Drake and Ludacris. “It starts off, I really like this girl, but we didn’t [get] along; we couldn’t be together,” he said. “Basically I want her back and [I’m] kind of going through the whole thing. I’m chasing her around, trying to get her, and she’s kind of playing hard to get, but I’m persistent. I keep going.” Related Photos Justin Bieber Breaks Hearts In Canada Related Artists Justin Bieber

Tiger Woods Buries Himself in Recovery Clichés

Tiger Woods spent 14 minutes this morning apologizing for, it seemed, practically everything he’s ever done. He may have just made things worse. His first mistake, of course, was waiting nearly three months to make his apology. But setting that aside, there is the issue of the actual apology, which was excruciating to watch. It was a string of clichés straight from a 12-step book. He took the blame, it’s true, but he sounded incredibly robotic and forced. (“The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable and I am the only person to blame.”) And the length of the speech worked against him; he should have stuck to the five minutes he was supposedly going to speak for. Because he ended up apologizing for things that people weren’t expecting, and lobbed some accusations that made him seem defensive. He said that the allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs were “completely and utterly false.” It reminded me of the old, “So when did you stop beating your wife?” question. No one would’ve been talking about performance-enhancing drugs today if he hadn’t brought it up. The other thing Tiger did that drove me crazy was his appeal to the paparazzi to stop harassing his family. “I still believe it is right to shield my family from the public spotlight. I have always tried to maintain a private space for my wife and children. They have been kept separate from my sponsors and my commercial endorsements,” he said. Which is a lie, as Don Van Natta of the Times pointed out on Twitter —Tiger was shown kissing his son in an ad for American Express. He also gave a shout-out to Accenture. Ew. Then there was the weird part where he brought up being raised a Buddhist (his mom looked distinctly uncomfortable at that point), but said he had “drifted away from it in recent years.” (No kidding.) Then he said, “Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint.” Again, this felt forced and false. The elephant(ess) in the room was clearly Elin, who wasn’t there but whose spectre hung over the proceedings. “Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame,” he said. Again—blame? Who was blaming Elin? From what I could tell, people sympathized with her. And her absence was telling. Think of how many men making apologies have had their wives at their sides—and not just politicians, either. Remember that when Kobe Bryant had to make his big apology, his wife Vanessa was at his side. Tiger also said that he wasn’t going to discuss whether he and Elin were going to stay together. Clearly he needs her more than she needs him.
