Ke$ha Talks VMA Garbage Bag Ensemble, Lady Gaga’s Meat Suit

‘It was amazing. I got to wear a garbage bag on national TV,’ singer says. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Kara Warner Ke$ha Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic Even if they didn’t walk away with Moonmen, just about everybody who attended the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards exited the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles a winner. Taylor Swift started some buzz with new music, Lady Gaga blew away the fashion community once again and Paramore’s Hayley Williams finally got to do a live tag-team with B.o.B. Another winner in spirit? Ke$ha, whose first visit to the VMAs was a positive one. “It was amazing. I got to wear a garbage bag on national TV,” Ke$ha gushed on the red carpet at the premiere of the second season for the HBO show “Eastbound and Down.” “It was fun. It was good. And I got nominated for four, and it was a dream come true just to be there.” The 23-year-old singer, who did indeed wear a dress made from garbage bags, was impressed with the level of fashion experimentation at this year’s show. “It was fun. I think everybody was having fun with it,” she said. However, she is not entirely sure she would be able to take the steps that Lady Gaga did with her head-turning meat-based ensemble. “I don’t know if I could actually put raw meat on me,” she admitted. With the VMAs behind her, Ke$ha is working on a new album, but was mostly excited to get out and support her favorite show on television. “I don’t watch TV, but this show I connect with on a really deep level,” she said. “I kind of feel like I’m the female version of Danny McBride: Kind of white trash, just ready to party.” The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. 2010 VMAs: Relive The Blink-And-You-Missed-‘Em Moments!

From Rihanna’s coy reaction to Drake’s ‘Fancy’ set to Katy Perry’s toast, we revisit our favorite split-second moments. By Jim Cantiello Katy Perry sitting next to Rihanna, asking for a refill at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: MTV News From Kanye West’s bright red suit to Lady Gaga’s plumed Mohawk, the 2010 Video Music Awards gave viewers plenty to look at. But there were also plenty of blink-and-you-missed-it moments worth revisiting. Here are some of our faves. Jane Lynch’s Surprise! The VMA stage was especially massive this year, with platforms extending and wrapping around the orchestra section of the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live. So you can’t really blame “Glee” ‘s Jane Lynch for not noticing Rihanna’s surprise entrance happening directly behind her. By the time Lynch realized where Ri’s voice was coming from, she delivered a reaction shot that screamed over-the-top shock and unbridled joy. Who knew Sue Sylvester was such a diehard Rihanna fan?! Rihanna Flips Her Hair at Drake! Speaking of Rihanna, the Bajan beauty had a playful response to Drake’s VMA debut: a sassy “well, isn’t he fancy?” hair flip. Chelsea

Florence And The Machine’s Triumphant VMA Peformance: Behind The Scenes

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ choreographer Travis Wall masterminded the dazzling routine. By James Montgomery Florence and the Machine perform at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images LOS ANGELES — There was no shortage of memorable moments during Sunday night’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , thanks to a lineup loaded with big-name stars. But it was a relative unknown who turned in one of the night’s biggest triumphs. Florence and the Machine (or, more specifically, Florence and a host of hyperactive dancers) practically stole the show with a performance that was, as promised , both ethereal and downright joyous. Part kaleidoscopic revue, part hippified freakout, Flo’s VMA version of “Dog Days Are Over” wowed the star-packed audience inside the Nokia Theatre, and, in the process, may have sent her on the way to Stateside success.

Drake Reveals Main Concern On VMA Stage: ‘Don’t Fall’

‘Performing in dress shoes for the first time’ gave the ‘Fancy’ MC pre-performance jitters, he admits. By Shaheem Reid Drake at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage LOS ANGELES — You can’t be the epitome of cool, and then land on your face or keister. Drake had a classy yet energetic and exciting performance Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards . While walking the white carpet leading up to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Drake stopped to hug and talk to Justin Bieber, and then watched Nicki Minaj perform “Your Love,” and “Check It Out” with will.i.am. Drizzy revealed to MTV News the primary thought that would be going through his head before taking the VMA stage. “Don’t fall. That’s the biggest thing, especially since I’m performing in dress shoes for the first time tonight,” he said. “So ‘don’t fall’ is my biggest thing. Other than that, man, it’s just really about, the stage is so vast. You gotta come out, you gotta shine. You gotta own it and you gotta have fun. You gotta smile, you gotta make people at home feel that they are right there with you having fun. That’s it really. Other than that, I wanna see other people be great. Hopefully take home an award. I worked really hard on that video,” he said of “Find Your Love,” which was up for Best Male Video, along with the Best Hip-Hop Video nominated “Forever.” Drake didn’t win any Moonmen at the 2010 VMAs, but he won the crowd over with “Fancy.” Everyone stood on their feet for Drake, Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Inside Justin Bieber’s VMA Performance: Fans Take Over!

Beliebers cheer on the singer during his debut VMA performance. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber with fans during his 201 VMA performance Photo: Rachel Goldner/ MTV News LOS ANGELES — Just days before the Video Music Awards kicked off, Justin Bieber rehearsed for his big performance at L.A. Live to little fanfare. However, on Sunday night (September 12), Bieber’s fans showed up with super-high Bieber Fevers for the teen star’s debut VMA performance . Not only did Bieber get Kim Kardashian to introduce him and poke fun at their, um, romance, but he managed to get VMA host Chelsea Handler out of the Nokia Theatre for his set with a sign that read “Chelsea Loves Bieber.” While Kardashian and Handler were surprises, the set was much like his rehearsal, an obvious reference to his “Hard Day’s Night”-inspired VMA promo . The big difference this time around was the crowd of screaming fans there for Bieber’s amplified set, which included “U Smile,” “Baby” and “Somebody to Love.” Aside from the crowd right in front of his stage, Beliebers also gathered across the street at the Staples Center to catch a glimpse of the performance. “MTV, make some noise,” Bieber told the crowd before he played “Somebody to Love” and confetti fell into the quad where he was playing. But Bieber didn’t run off the stage as the song finished. Instead, he stood there, gave his dancers and band hugs and excitedly took in his moment as fans cheered on his triumphant debut VMA performance. His fans agreed that the performance was well worth it. “I thought it was cool,” fan Genevieve told MTV News from her spot atop a balcony overlooking the stage. “He’s a better performer than I thought.” Reagan agreed, saying, “He really put together a great performance.” And just like that, Bieber and his fans were whisked away. What did you think of the performance watching at home? Let us know in the comments! The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards are happening live, right now at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles! Justin Bieber, Drake Have Canadian Reunion At VMAs

Bieber also revealed plans to get Drake and Lil Wayne on his next album. By Jocelyn Vena Drake and Justin Bieber at the 2010 VMAs Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — Justin Bieber and Drake both brought the party to the VMA red carpet Sunday night (September 12), but they also brought their Canadian pride to the show. While the pair weren’t sure how many Moonmen the night would bring them, they were looking forward to chilling with each other and also sharing some plans to collaborate sometime in the future. “This is my big bro Drizzy Drake,” Bieber told MTV News on the VMA red carpet after giving his pal a hug and making his way over to chat with us. “This is my little brother,” Drake added. The two then explained that they were planning to make sure Canada got some proper representation at the show. “Same way we always do,” nominee and performer Drake teased, with fellow nominee and performer Bieber continuing, “You know we always rep our hometown, Toronto.” After the Canadian lovefest, Bieber revealed some details about his third album, a follow-up to his massive hits My World and My World 2.0. “[It’ll] probably [come out] fourth quarter next year,” he revealed. “Drake is gonna be on that album; I’m not sure [who else]. I’m gonna ask him if he can get [Lil] Wayne on there.” Drake had Bieber’s back: “We’ll make it happen.” On top of a new album, Bieber will also release a 3-D movie next year. “We’re in the middle [of it now],” he dished. “You’re gonna see a lot of cool stuff! 3-D, 3-D!” Are you feeling the Canadian love between Justin and Drake? MTV’s VMA Twitter Tracker Lets Stars, Fans Control The Conversation

Celebs at the Nokia Theatre will see who’s trending during the show on Sunday night. MTV’s VMA Twitter Tracker Photo: MTV Even though many of the people watching the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards aren’t going to be physically in the Nokia Theatre on Sunday night (September 12), MTV is making sure they’re a part of the experience. Carrying on a tradition that began at last year’s VMAs, MTV is letting viewers in on the live conversation with the Twitter Tracker . Thanks to a partnership between MTV, the Stamen Group and Twitter, the Tracker allows viewers to track the popularity of the various VMA performers and presenters over the course of the night as the subjects’ images grow and shrink according to how many times they’re mentioned on the social-networking site. MTV News senior vice president Benjamin Wagner said that last year the program tracked over 2 million tweets. “It was just so apparent last year that our audience is talking about the VMAs all over the place, not just on MTV.com,” Wagner said. “We wanted to be able to reflect that conversation instead of just ignoring it, like acting as if it wasn’t happening on MTV it wasn’t happening.” The Tracker was also incorporated into the MTV Movie Awards with the added ability to tweet directly from the Twitter tracker platform. During that show, users figured out how they could manipulate their favorite stars’ presence on the Tracker. MTV Mobile senior vice president Michael Scogin, who originated the project, said this is what he hoped would happen with the tracker, and influenced the most recent incarnation that will be used tonight. The general layout of the website now looks like a leader board, with the various celebrity performers and presenters ranked by their popularity during the awards show, and actually subtly encourages those on Twitter to manipulate the rankings over the course of the night. The board updates itself constantly but allows users to navigate a minute-by-minute timeline of the show to see who is most popular at any given point. By clicking on a particular celeb, you can see what people on Twitter are saying and join in the conversation as well. “If version one that we did at the VMAs last year was simply about representing the conversation, version two — by adding the ability to tweet — at the Movie Awards was about contributing to the conversation from the interface,” Scogin said. “And then version three, that we’re rolling out for the VMAs this year, is about people influencing the conversation.” The Twitter Tracker will be a large part of both the VMA Pre-Show and main show. MTV’s new TJ, Gabi Gregg , will be monitoring the tracker periodically during the pre-show, starting at 8 p.m. ET, and will read tweets from users on the air. A huge wall of television monitors inside the Nokia Theatre will show the Twitter Tracker during commercial breaks, allowing all the celebrities at the show to see what’s trending. Scogin said he hopes that will encourage to jump into the conversation as well. With Twitter-happy attendees like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Kanye West, the possibility doesn’t seem unlikely at all. “It’s really about making Twitter part of the show,” explained Chloe Sladden, the director of media partnership at Twitter. “It’s not like, oh, there’s this other thing, this other technology that we’re going to kind of shoehorn in in some way, but MTV is taking the leap to say, ‘This is the show, this is an element of the show, so let’s make it seamless.’ And what you’ll see is really weaving Twitter into the very experience.” Tune in tonight for the

B.o.B Predicts VMAs Will Be ‘One Hell Of A Show’

‘I really want to see what everyone has up their sleeve as far as performances go,’ MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez B.o.B Photo: MTV News B.o.B is not only taking the stage to perform during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , but the Atlanta rapper is up for a number of awards himself, from Best Male Video to Best Hip-Hop Video. So while he sits in the house at the Nokia Theatre, he’ll have a front-row seat to take in the show. Although Florence and the Machine are favorites of the “Nothin’ on You” star, he told MTV News he’s looking forward to all of the performances. From Drake to Usher to Justin Bieber, B.o.B said he thinks everyone is going to deliver. “I really want to see what everyone has up their sleeve as far as performances go,” he explained. ” ‘Cause for me, I take performing very seriously. So I can bet everyone else is like that. So it’s gonna be one hell of a show.” B.o.B has had a good year, as the upstart MC scored a #1 debut album and three top 10 hits, “Nothin’ on You,” “Airplanes” and “Magic.” The lanky lyricist will take the stage to perform “Nothin’ on You” with Bruno Mars and then “Airplanes” with Paramore’s Hayley Williams. The Saturday rehearsal with B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Williams was relaxed and filled with plenty of impromptu moments. Bruno Mars and B.o.B each busted out into covers, of Drake’s “Find Your Love” and the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy,” respectively. And B.o.B and Williams, who had recorded “Airplanes” separately and later shot their parts for the video at different times, met for the first time . Steve-O Says ‘Jackass 3D’ Shows ‘Totally Different Me’

‘Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful,’ he says of ‘scary’ stunts in flick previewing at Sunday’s VMAs. By Jocelyn Vena Steve-O Photo: MTV News Fans won’t have to wait until October 15 to get a taste of the mayhem set to take place in “Jackass 3D.” An exclusive clip from the flick will premiere during the MTV Video Music Awards , where the cast will also be presenting on Sunday. One of the movie’s stars, Steve-O, is super excited for fans to check out the preview. “I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome. We made a great movie. Everybody’s gonna love it. People are gonna be waiting to see how being sober and filming ‘Jackass’ is different [for me],” he told MTV News at the VMA Radio Forum on Friday. “Being clear-headed and sober makes it more painful, more scary and the first thing I say is, ‘I’m Steve-O, why do I have to be Steve-O?’ ” He wouldn’t get too specific about his favorite part of the movie, but Steve-O did note that the film starts with one very eye-catching scene. “I think that after the opening credits, like, the first scene that I’m in, I think it’s pretty great,” he said. “It’s just awesome. It’s a good movie.” While doing many of the painful stunts in “Jackass 3D” proved to be quite the challenge for a now-sober Steve-O , he was certainly up for it. “I was eager to do as much as I could. I, unlike Johnny Knoxville and some of the other guys, was feeling pretty sure I didn’t want to risk paralysis or death,” he joked. ‘Knoxville just needs to risk paralysis and death, but that being the case, I was really eager to get involved in as much stuff as I could, and I think I’m in this new movie more than either of the first two. It was a totally different me and it was a real blessing to do that.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
