A rehearsal for their 2010 MTV Video Music Awards performance Saturday (September 11) finally united the pair, who recorded their vocals separately and shot a video for the song at different times.

Snooki Busted For Texting While Driving

By Gil Kaufman Snooki Photo: Jerritt Clark/ Getty Images After making a plea deal to avoid a disorderly conduct charge and jail time on Wednesday (September 8), “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi vowed to turn over a new leaf. The pint-sized “Shore” party starter took offense at comparisons to troubled actress Lindsay Lohan after her appearance in a Seaside Heights, New Jersey courtroom, and Snickers’ lawyer promised that his client was done with running afoul of the law. Well, that was fast. Snooks, 22, hasn’t been arrested, but she did break one of the Garden State’s laws — and doing so landed her a virtual smackdown from telegenic Newark mayor Cory Booker. “Ugh stuck in newark traffic is no fun,” Snooki tweeted just hours after leaving the court room on Wednesday. Less than half an hour later, a still-exasperated Snooki added , “Omg why I got a stick shift I will never know. Stop and go traffic I’m killen myself here :(.” But then, according to the Huffington Post , Newark boss Booker caught wind of the tweets and reminded the big-haired reality star that, technically, she was breaking the law. New Jersey passed a text messaging while driving ban in 2008. The first offense carries a $100 fine, which can be levied even if the driver hasn’t been pulled over for another traffic infraction. “Snooki! I’m the mayor where R U so I can give u a ticket 4 texting & driving we needs revenue!” he tweeted . Booker had some help from a follower, who wrote, “Cory! Hasn’t she heard of Oprah’s No Phone Zone pledge?” a reference to TV titan Oprah Winfrey ‘s drive to get her fans to agree not to text while driving to increase safety on the roads. “Definitely going 2 tell @Oprah on her. @sn00ki needs an intervention,” Booker replied . Though Snooki didn’t respond to the Mayor’s threat, Booker did get some props from United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, who tweeted , “Thanks for spreading the word about the dangers of texting while driving @Corybooker!” Snooki and her “Jersey Shore” castmates will present a Moonman at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards . Usher’s VMA Performance To Be Worthy Of A ‘King’

By James Montgomery Usher’s VMA rehearsal on September 9 Photo: Ciel VanderVeen/MTV The success of Usher’s “OMG” is as much a testament to his unyielding popularity as an artist as it is his ability to, well, dance his ass off. That’s particularly apparent in the Video Music Award -nominated video for the song, which features Ush and a bevy of beauties popping, locking, pivoting and posing in ways we never thought possible. Quite simply, the man can move. So when it came time to plot out his VMA performance, well, Usher’s team — and the brain trust behind the show — didn’t have a whole lot of trouble coming up with a concept. The dancing was going to be front and center. The only question was: How could they take things to the next level. “We all sat in a room and came up with a concept for the stage, and then we took that concept to Usher,” VMA executive producer Dave Sirulnick told MTV News. “We said to him, ‘We want to do the best televised dance routine that you’ve done in years. Let’s show why you’re the king.’ ” And Ush’s Sunday night performance is very much an affair worthy of royalty. Full of eye-popping moves, hip-dipping dancers and more special effects than a Hollywood blockbuster, it makes full use of not just the epic VMA stage (which practically engulfs the entirety of Nokia Theater), but the space behind it. While we can’t give away too many details, based on the rehearsals we saw Thursday, the off-the-wall choreography is only part of the attraction. There are lasers and LED lights, stunts, slides and even some props. Like we said, it’s kind of like a Hollywood blockbuster. And kind of a coronation too. After all, Usher is the king. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The talk-show host caught up with MTV News on Thursday (September 9) to reveal that she’s pretty much ready for anything. “I’m pretty good at answering anything you ask me,” she said. “I mean, if I know the answer. If I didn’t, I’ll just bullsh–. Bleep that please,” she laughed. “I forgot I was on a younger person’s network.” Speaking of young people, America’s favorite teen, the VMA-nominated Justin Bieber , is set to take the stage at the show, and he has quite the past with the comedian. But she admitted that, while he’s a “two face” in the love department , she does think he knows quite a lot about it. “He knows so much about romance,” she said. “If you listen to the lyrics of ‘Baby, Baby, Baby,’ or is it just called ‘Baby’? I have to say it three times, ’cause my heart thumps. He’s obviously been around the block. I mean, I don’t know why he’s pretending he’s not a sexual deviant, because he is.” Handler said she has her guard up these days around the pop sensation after she asked him out on a date only to have him start hanging out with VMA presenter Kim Kardashian instead. “He’s using the flirty card with everybody he meets, and I’m not gonna fall for that,” she said. “I’m 35 years old. Whether he’s producing profanity-laced records with Cee-Lo Green , collaborating with B.o.B and Travie McCoy or touring to promote his debut EP It’s Better If You Don’t Understand and upcoming LP, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, this producer-turned-rock/soul singer is popping up everywhere. This week alone, Mars is hitting our screens with the premiere of his “Just the Way You Are” video and with a performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. “It’s all happening so fast,” Mars told MTV News last month, when reflecting on his successes in the past months. Jaws dropped and boos were lobbed when Kanye infamously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video, leaving behind a shell-shocked teen country starlet. Swift composed herself and gracefully left the stage but the experience was apparently as hard for the Grammy-winner to take as it was for viewers to watch.
