She appeared at weekend events to pay tribute to those behind the hurricane recovery effort. Despite the rain-soaked gray Sunday morning and the somber fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Sandra Bullock managed to get a laugh out of the crowd at Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans. Flipping over an hourglass, the Oscar-winning actress joked, “THIS is

The Emmy Awards: Predicting The Winners

‘Lost,’ ‘Glee’ poised to win big during Sunday night’s telecast. By Kara Warner Matthew Morrison and Jayma Mays in “Glee” Photo: FOX The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards take place on Sunday night (August 29), which means there’s still time to speculate over who will take trophies home from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Fan favorites Betty White and Neil Patrick Harris have already snagged Emmys — which stars and shows will round out this year’s winners list? Here’s a look at our picks. Outstanding Drama Series It seems that the likely winner here is “Lost,” which ended with a much buzzed-about bang — an estimated 13.5 million viewers tuned into the May 23 series finale . “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” could also pull out a victory, but Emmy newbie “True Blood” is a long shot. Outstanding Lead Actor And Lead Actress In A Drama Series Fans and critics alike rejoiced at the recognition for “Friday Night Lights” actors Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, but they will have steep competition from previous winners like Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad,” Hugh Laurie of “House”, Glenn Close of “Damages” and Mariska Hargitay of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Cranston is the likely winner in the Actor category, while Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife” is a strong favorite for the Actress award. Outstanding Supporting Actor And Supporting Actress In A Drama Series The likely winners here are Terry O’Quinn for “Lost” and Christina Hendricks for “Mad Men.” Outstanding Comedy Series “Glee” has come out of its first season riding a wave of popularity and hype that landed it . But does the show have enough to beat out perennial favorites “The Office” and “30 Rock” and fend off competition from the other newcomer in this category, “Modern Family”? This is a tough one to call. Outstanding Lead Actor And Lead Actress In A Comedy Series “Glee” stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele have very tough competition in their respective categories. “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin has won two Emmys for his portrayal of network exec Jack Donaghy. Baldwin’s co-star Tina Fey is also in the running, as are “Nurse Jackie” star Edie Falco, who won the Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series three times for her work on “The Sopranos,” and leader of “The Office” Steve Carell. Outstanding Supporting Actor And Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series As beloved as Chris Colfer is on “Glee,” he’s a long shot against his seasoned competition, which includes “How I Met Your Mother” scene-stealer Harris and Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family.” Jane Lynch is a lock to take Supporting Actress for her work on “Glee”; the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences likely engraved her name on the trophy when nominations were announced. Outstanding Reality — Competition Program Perennial Emmy favorite “The Amazing Race” will likely beat out ratings juggernauts “American Idol” and “Dancing With The Stars.” “Project Runway” and “Top Chef” are also up for honors. Who do you think will take home Emmys on Sunday night? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos The Year In ‘Glee’

T.I. Gets Deeply ‘Personal’ During ‘VH1 Storytellers’ Episode

Tip delivers his hits, performs poignant tracks live for the first time during show set to air in December. By Shaheem Reid T.I. on “VH1 Storytellers” Photo: VH1 The words are still as meaningful and penetrating as they were in 2001. T.I. took the stage on Tuesday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City and led the audience back to album number one, track 2. “They sendin’ letters home from school, nobody read mines,” Tip rapped from “Still Ain’t Forgave Myself.” “And plus, my uncle’s doin’ 10 years F.E.D. time/ Then I started rebellin’, began crack sellin’ / The littlest thang on the corner with a Mac 11 / After school, I hear my mama holla homework / I say, ‘aiiiight ma,’ but look, I got my own work / Started interacting with fiends at the age of 13 / Now my mama findin’ rocks in my socks, glocks in my toy box.” Onstage to tape his episode of “VH1 Storytellers: T.I,” the Atlanta MC delivered what was arguably his most intimate performance ever. (The show airs Friday, December 10 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on VH1.) “I never performed [that song] since it was recorded,” Tip told the crowd of track, a standout from his 2001 debut, I’m Serious. The King of the South said it just felt “too personal” to perform before. “It took years to find the proper stage and proper crowd to present it to you guys,” he explained. “Now I think the time is right. Glad to be presenting it to you.” Tip also said that although he would be performing what his fans saw as songs, hits even, for him it was altogether different. “To me, this is my life, my story,” he said. “I’ve lived these things, endured these circumstances.” He went on to reveal the backstory for another early record that he hadn’t performed live until that night. “I Still Luv You,” Tip explained, was inspired by the mother of his two sons, with whom he started a family as a teenager. The daughter he had by another woman and whom he had kept secret from his family for a while, as well as his relationship with his father also inspired the song, he revealed. “Motivation,” from T.I.’s 2004 Urban Legend, was written in jail. Tip said that stint behind bars was a result of some criminals wrongly implicating him in a crime. As the police searched his house, they found a gun. “Who would have thought?” he joked. Tip said that the gun was registered to someone else, and he wound up going to jail for a short time. “Oddly enough for me,” he laughed. The record itself was inspired by “a rapper who used my dark moment as his bright moment. … It didn’t rub me the right way.” Tip gave us plenty of bright moments, too, during the taping, with performances, in particular, of the smashes “Live Your Life” and “Bring Em Out.” What songs do most want to hear T.I. perform live? Usher Has A History On The VMA Stage

Singer will perform — and is up for three Moonmen — at the big show, airing live Sunday, September 12. By Jocelyn Vena Usher at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Alberto Tamargo/Getty Images Usher will certainly have fans saying “OMG” when he hits the stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , but it isn’t the first time he’s had VMA viewers shouting his lyrics. The R&B superstar got his first taste of what it was like to perform at the VMAs in Los Angeles in 1998 when he played the pre-show, taking the stage in a leather, graffiti-print jacket and leather tuxedo pants. Usher’s performance back then was incredibly low-fi, having only a few dancers behind him dressed like the ones in his “My Way” clip, which was nominated for a VMA that year.

Taylor Swift’s ‘You Belong With Me’ Video Inspired 2009 VMA Performance

‘I did get inspiration from her videos, and I was inspired by her,’ choreographer Danielle Flora says of show-stopping subway rendition. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in her “You Belong With Me” music video Photo: Big Machine Records At the 2009 Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift not only took over the subway for her show-stopping rendition of her VMA-winning hit, “You Belong With Me,” but she also took over Sixth Avenue and sang her heart out in a girly, apple-red dress. Choreographer Danielle Flora, who worked with the singer on the performance, admits that her Lucas Till-starring video played a major role in the staging and choreography of the performance. “I did seek a lot of inspiration from her video. I mean, I think it’s important to know someone’s work and what they’ve done, especially if you’re going to be choreographing for them,” Flora told MTV News. “You need to know what their style is and what they like and … really understand who they are. And I think I did get inspiration from her videos, and I was inspired by her.” As it turns out, Swift herself was as much an inspiration as the Roman White-directed video. “She is pretty amazing. I am inspired by her songwriting abilities,” she said. “She is a very interesting girl. She is a very smart girl.” In the video, Swift plays two characters, the nice girl next door and the raven-haired bad girl. In real life, as expected, Swift, who is set to release her new video, “Mine,” on Friday (August 27), is definitely more of the former. “Taylor Swift is exactly what you see. I mean, it’s not a front that she puts on,” Flora said of the megastar. “She actually really is the nice girl. She is gracious and thankful and she goes the extra mile to thank people and she works really hard and that also extends to the people around her. Everyone around her, her supporting crew, is awesome, too.” That made working with Swift for her “You Belong With Me” VMA performance that much more enjoyable. “It’s really nice. It makes everyone else’s jobs so much easier and you know she really is just a nice girl,” Flora said. Eminem To Perform at 2010 MTV VMAs

The VMA veteran returns to the stage with eight nominations from his best-selling Recovery. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage You can’t throw the year’s biggest party without inviting the artist with the best-selling album of 2010. Especially if that guy happens to be Eminem , whose history with the MTV Video Music Awards is long, legendary and full of the kind of eye-popping moments that make the VMAs the must-TiVo event of the year. Slim Shady will bless the show’s stage on September 12, where he is nominated for eight Moonmen for his smash comeback album Recovery, the best-selling non-country release of the year. Em joins an already star-packed roster of performers that includes Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine, as well as in-house DJ Deadmau5 and host Chelsea Handler. The list of presenters already includes Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Ashley Greene, Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo. Over the years, Eminem has given some of the most iconic performances of the modern VMA era, none bigger than 2000’s Night of the Living Shadys. During that show, Em began his run through Video of the Year-winning hit “The Real Slim Shady” out on the streets of Manhattan, surrounded by an army of clones dressed exactly like him. The brigade then marched into Radio City Music Hall as Em finished “Shady” and then busted into a visceral “The Way I Am.” Even when he wasn’t performing on the show, Eminem — who ranks sixth on the list of all-time VMA winners — has made his presence felt over the years, as he did in 2002 with his infamous run-in with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog . Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist, by visiting VMA.MTV.com . In addition, text voting for Best New Artist is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 97979. Voting continues through the show, live on September 12.

The comedienne announces the gig on ‘Chelsea Lately.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Chelsea Handler Photo: Timothy White For one special evening, Chelsea Handler is bringing her late-night raunch to primetime: Handler will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards . The comedienne announced the gig on her E! talk show, “Chelsea Lately,” on Wednesday (August 18). “Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of ‘Chelsea Lately.’ And that’s why I will be hosting [the show],” Handler quipped, before urging her staff to vie for the extra tickets MTV gave her. “Let the ass-kissing begin,” the funnywoman smiled. Handler will work the mic at this year’s awards show, which airs live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. This is the first time the L.A.-based star will host the event where celebs like Lady Gaga, Eminem, Drake, Usher and Katy Perry are up for Moonmen. Among the performers set to hit the stage are Kanye West, B.o.B, Florence and the Machine and Handler’s sometime suitor, Justin Bieber. The talk-show diva is the latest in a long list of comics to handling host duties at the VMAs. In 1985, Eddie Murphy took the cameras backstage at Radio City Music Hall and surprised guests with an impromptu visit to the ladies room. Arsenio Hall presided over the festivities four years in a row, armed with a collection of Day-Glo suits and a quick wit that sparked the requisite “roo, roo, roo!” chorus from the crowd. Fellow late-night comic Jimmy Fallon kicked-off his 2002 hosting duties with an amped-up musical number. Chris Rock helped MTV turn 20 in 2003, delivering a memorable opening monologue that rivaled the infamous Madonna-Britney Spears-Christina Aguilera smooch. Potty-mouthed Brit Russell Brand flexed his skills on two different coasts; hosting in Hollywood in 2008 and returning the next year to helm the VMA’s 2009 New York City homecoming. What do you think of Chelsea Handler hosting the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards? Sound off in the comments below! The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12. Related Photos Can You Handle VMA Host Chelsea Handler?
