From ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer’ To ‘Lincoln,’ 282 Features Eligible For Best Picture Oscar

Prognosticators have maybe five (or even as few as two) possible Oscar winners, and most lists of ten (or so) have many of the same titles though perhaps in various orders. But folks, the nominations have yet to come in and the Academy made that clear today with its list of 282 feature films for 2012 that are eligible for Best Picture. [ Related: Oscar Index: ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ Caught In The Cross-Hairs ] Rules are rules and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially considers a feature film that played in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31 and begin a minimum seven consecutive day run. Feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days to Django Unchained ; The First Time to Flight ; Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted to Magic Mike ; 17 Girls to The Sessions … They’re all on the official list , so don’t count out the non-elite not making Awards headlines. Oscar Noms Set For Earlier Date As Academy Gives Key Dates

It’s September, the unofficial start of the long road to the Academy Awards telecast on February 24, 2013. Already, awards campaigns are in the works and the end of last week’s Toronto International Film Festival already has a number of titles in play for those oh-so-very-coveted golden statuettes. One big change this year, the Oscar nominations will come out earlier this year. Nominations will be revealed January 10th, five days earlier than in the past. And that group of 5,500-plus voting members of the Academy will have the opportunity to vote electronically (conceivably a bit harder now for voting members to pass their ballots over to their more eager assistants, perhaps?) The Academy will make several voting resources available to members during the transition, including the installation of assisted voting stations in Los Angeles, New York and London, a 24-hour telephone help line during voting periods, and paper ballots. In the pre-Nominations phase, members will continue to vote via paper ballot in eight categories due to specialized screening schedules and processes. Those categories are Animated Feature Film, Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Foreign Language Film, Makeup and Hairstyling and Visual Effects. And the key dates are : Friday, November 30, 2012: Official Screen Credits due Saturday, December 1, 2012: Governors Awards presentation Monday, December 17, 2012: Nominations voting begins Thursday, January 3, 2013: Nominations voting ends 5 p.m. PT Thursday, January 10, 2013: Nominations announced 5:30 a.m. PT, Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater Monday, February 4, 2013: Nominees Luncheon Friday, February 8, 2013: Final voting begins Saturday, February 9, 2013: Scientific and Technical Awards presentation Tuesday, February 19, 2013: Final voting ends 5 p.m. PT Sunday, February 24, 2013: 85th Academy Awards presentation

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ Unlike Any ‘Twilight’ Movie, Kristen Stewart Says

During MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week, KStew explains why the final film of the saga left her ‘shell-shocked.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Even with one enormous summer blockbuster a week away from release, Kristen Stewart excitedly discussed the conclusion to the “Twilight Saga” at a MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week event for ” Snow White and the Huntsman .” ” Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ,” which won’t hit theaters until this November, surely ranks among one of the most anticipated films of the year, and Stewart counts herself among those eager to see the finale. “I’m excited. I have to see it done,” she told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. “I haven’t seen it. It’s a big deal.” The story for the final “Twilight” will take the story in an intriguing different direction as Bella adjusts to life as a new mom and a new vampire, no longer the plain Jane every-girl. Stewart told MTV News that the change makes for a surprisingly different movie experience. “It’s so bizarre, the tone change. You’ve always been behind her. You’ve always been using her. She’s how you see that world,” she said. “Now that her perspective has completely changed, it’s like ‘Where am I?’ It’s really cool. I, myself, am still a little bit shell-shocked. It’s not like sitting down and watching a ‘Twilight’ movie.” From the sounds of it, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” will likely have more than a few award-worthy moments, much like “Part 1”. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will be returning to the MTV Movie Awards , airing this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, to defend their long-running legacy as the Best Kiss champions, along with several other nominations for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Golden Globe Nominations Led By ‘The Artist’

Silent black-and-white film earns six nods, while ‘The Descendants’ and ‘The Help’ rack up five each. Jean Dujardin in “The Artist” Photo: Weinstein Company The stars woke up early Thursday (December 15), hoping to hear their names when the nominations for the 69th annual Golden Globes were announced. Without many front-runners in the major categories, the Globe nominations gave one of the first serious indications of how the Academy Awards will play out in February. “The Artist,” with six nominations, and “The Descendants” and “The Help,” with five each, cemented their place at the top of the Best Picture race. “The Artist,” the silent, black-and-white tribute to old Hollywood, wowed audiences during the festival circuit and earned the most nods. In addition to its nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, both Jean Dujardin and B

Skrillex Is MTV’s EDM Artist Of 2011!

DJ/producer cements his breakthrough year with five Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist. By Akshay Bhansali Skrillex Photo: Getty Images Back in late 2010, EDM superstar DJ/producer deadmau5 told MTV News a star was on the rise. He said his friend and former post-hardcore/emo rocker Sonny Moore — producing and performing under the name Skrillex — was going to be a force to be reckoned with. “He’s taking over — I think he’s going to outdo me,” deadmau5 told MTV News at the time. “I think he’s going to be the first artist on Beatport to eat my lunch and take over the top 10. I don’t think anyone in Beatport history has ever done it, but if he does it, I’ll be so proud of him, the little goblin!” Now, the ever-prophetic ‘mau5 has more to be proud of. A lot more. In our Best Electronic Dance Music Artists of 2011 coverage, MTV’s roundtable has named Skrillex the #1 EDM Artist of 2011, underscored by his most recent series of accolades: He scored a whopping five Grammy nominations, including being the first DJ to land a Best New Artist nod. Indeed, Moore’s musical background — both on his own and as a member of his former group, From First to Last — has carried over into Skrillex’s brand of fiery electronica. Skrillex has garnered an audience the world over that includes ravers, house heads and rockers alike. In today’s laptop generation of music, Skrillex is the new “rock.” From his remix of Benny Benassi and Gary Go’s “Cinema” to the recent Avicii pop song “Le7els” (not officially released yet), Skrillex dropped massive re-workings in ’11, in addition to his More Monsters and Sprites EP. He scored video games, produced records for Korn, launched his own OWSLA label and hit almost every major festival in the States, including Coachella and Lollapalooza. An exceptional catalog of releases coupled with an incessant touring schedule has made Skrillex the biggest EDM star of the year. In 2012, he plans to tour 322 of the 365 days. While he didn’t expect to become recognized as this year’s biggest success story, Skrillex’s peers say the swell of critical and fan support is fitting. “He definitely deserves it,” former OWSLA tourmate, DJ/producer Porter Robinson, told MTV News. “I’ve been saying it all year: He’s the most influential musician of this year, in any genre. Incredible sound designer. Incredible songwriter. Amazing performer.” “He’s been in bands before,” EDM artist and collaborator Sofi told us. “He’s an excellent songwriter. He can sing. He’s just so versatile that I think that comes through in his music. He kind of brought this ‘rock,’ ‘raw’ element into electronic music. He’s the punk rock of the new generation.” Even industry veteran David Guetta, who lands at #2 on our list of the Best EDM Artists of 2011, agreed with all the praise heaped on Skrillex. “He’s extremely talented, and I’m very happy for him,” Guetta said of Skrill’s Grammy noms. “It’s a statement: I think it’s really good that an artist from our community is nominated just as ‘an artist.’ Not as a ‘dance’ artist, you know? I think that it’s good that [our] music is now getting the attention and the respect that all the other styles of music, like hip-hop, are getting.” MTV will reveal the best artists, songs and movies of the year.
