Miranda Lambert Says Grammy Noms Show Country Is ‘Finally Out There’

‘We’re not out by ourselves anymore,’ multiple nominee tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Lascina Miranda Lambert Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Miranda Lambert, one of country music’s latest crossover darlings, is now a multiple Grammy nominee . Lambert herself is up for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “The House That Built Me,” Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for “Bad Angel” with Jamey Johnson and Dierks Bentley, and Best Country Album for Revolution . “I got three, and ‘The House That Built Me’ got nominated for Song Of The Year, which goes to the songwriters,” she told MTV News after learning of the nominations. “So, I’m thrilled for them!” Lambert notes that being nominated for an award as beloved as a Grammy proves that country is now as mainstream as any other genre of music. “It feels good to be nominated for a Grammy at all, but three is so special,” she gushed. “It’s such a prestigious awards show. It’s mattered so much in just all music, especially for country right now, because I think we’re finally out there. We’re finally where people are paying attention to country music, and we’re part of the world of music now. We’re not out by ourselves anymore.” Plus, going to the Grammys in February means that she’ll not only get to chill with her fellow country stars, but also the likes of Lady Gaga and Eminem. “I’m glad that I get to be a part of all this. I mean, Grammys are cool because it’s one room and all these artists and one night to celebrate all kinds of music, and for the people in the industry to acknowledge the talent in the room,” she said. “And it’s so cool to be in that room and feel that energy. It’s just crazy, because music is what drives us all.” Do you think Lambert or “The House That Built Me” will win a Grammy? Make your predictions in the comments below! Grammy Nominations Concert: Katy Perry And Justin Bieber Perform, Earn Nods

B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Train also hit the stage for the nominations special. By James Montgomery Katy Perry performs during the GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! in Los Angeles on Wednesday Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Even though the Grammy Awards are still more than two months away, Eminem should probably start getting his acceptance speech ready. Or, more specifically, acceptance speeches. Em landed three huge nominations during Wednesday night’s (December 1) Grammy Nominations Concert at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles — Record and Song of the Year for his massive hit “Love the Way You Lie” and an Album of the Year nod for the equally big Recovery — making him the early favorite to take home the hardware February 13, when the Grammys will be handed out. Another early favorite is Cee Lo, whose “F— You” scored noms for both Record and Song of the Year and — of course — country juggernauts Lady Antebellum, who matched Eminem with nominations for Record, Song and Album of the Year. Both Eminem and Lady Antebellum were expected by most to pick up nominations in the so-called “big four” categories, but that doesn’t mean the Grammy nominations special was without its fair share of surprises. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream picked up a nod for Best Album, along with Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster and, in the night’s most unexpected twist, indie stalwarts the Arcade Fire and their disc The Suburbs. All of those categories figure to be close, but the Grammy for Best New Artist appears to be a race between two Canadian heartthrobs: Justin Bieber and Drake, who are the presumptive favorites in a field that also includes Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Esperanza Spalding. Bieber — who appeared live via satellite from London — couldn’t contain his excitement (or find the right words, for that matter) after learning he’d been nominated, telling the night’s host, LL Cool J, that “It feels amazing … I can’t believe I’m in this position! I don’t know what to say!” Of course, the nominations were just half of the show. In true Grammy tradition, the telecast also featured a host of high-profile performances. Perry kicked things off with a holiday-themed take on “California Gurls” (meaning she wore some ornaments in her hair) and was followed by Bruno Mars, who strummed his way through “Just the Way You Are,” backed by a trilling string section and a pianist. Train performed their massive “Hey, Soul Sister” — which, rather shockingly, was shut out of the Big Four — Bieber reappeared for an acoustic version of “My Favorite Girl,” and Mars teamed up with B.o.B to put a lilting spin on “Nothin’ on You,” which picked up a nomination for Record of the Year. Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ Video: Fall In Love All Over Again

Romantic clip for title track of pop star’s forthcoming album co-stars actor Josh Kloss. By James Montgomery Josh Kloss and Katy Perry in the “Teenage Dream” music video Photo: Eric Ford/Danny Mayer/ On Location News You’ve got to hand it to Katy Perry : she’s really hitting on all cylinders these days. “California Gurls,” the first single from her album Teenage Dream , was the official anthem of the first half of summer, a fun and flirty song that probably served as the soundtrack to your various beachfront flings. And now, she’s back with the album’s title track — and second single — which will undoubtedly serve as the soundtrack to one of those flings blossoming. She’s got you covered every step of the way … it’s sorta brilliant, really. Both “Teenage Dream” and its accompanying video are about falling madly in love, about losing your inhibitions and getting jelly-kneed by the mere thought of being near that certain someone. Sure, you may have snogged your fair share of guys or gals down the shore this summer (that’s what “California Gurls” was for), but now you’ve found the one that makes you feel all giddy inside, and you’re ready to let your guard down and go head-over-heels. “Dream” is all those gooey feelings turned into a pop song. The video was directed by Yoann Lemoine, who fills it with gauzy, sunset-tinged scenery: a beach in the waning light, the rapidly darkening hills of California, the incandescent glow of a pool in the early evening. Much like the song itself, the entire clip feels like a wooshing, love-drunk dream. Perry frolics with a frequently shirtless hunk (actor Josh Kloss) and is giddy throughout. She brings her friends (including L.A. socialites Ana Calderon and DJ Skeet Skeet) along to share in the merriment, and they throw impromptu dance parties all over Southern California. It all possesses an unwound, unabashed glee — the kind of bliss that only comes when you first fall in love, when everything seems to be taken from a movie (or, in this case, an Abercrombie & Fitch billboard) and nothing seems impossible. In that regard, it fits the feel of the song perfectly. Perry always stays on message. There is no deviation. It’s ingenious, not to mention a little frightening. Welcome to your favorite song of the second half of 2010, the one you’ll fall in love with (and to). You are powerless to resist. What do you think of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”? Florence And The Machine To Perform At Video Music Awards

Their ‘Dog Days Are Over’ clip is nominated for four VMAs at the September 12 show. By James Montgomery She surprised pretty much everybody when her video for “Dog Days Are Over” racked up four nominations at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , and now, flame-haired siren Florence Welch (and, of course, the Machine too) have been tapped to perform the song on the big show, which airs September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. And yes, they’ll be aiming to surprise once again. Though, as Welch told MTV News last week, after learning of her noms, the celebs in the audience probably won’t be the only ones who can’t believe what they’re seeing. “I’m still kind of processing it, to be honest,” Welch said. “It’s such an iconic event, and it’s something I’ve watched on TV since I was a kid. It’s one of those things: It’s not real life, it’s a dream scenario. So for me to be actually a part of it feels like I’m in some sort of parallel universe. It’s kind of strange and wonderful and terrifying all at the same time.” And that’s a pretty good way to describe everything Florence and the Machine do (no wonder we picked them as “Artists to Watch” way back in January). From Welch’s flowing gowns and epic, downright ethereal voice to the harpist she employs and the fresh-cut flowers she insists on decorating her mic stand with before each show, she’s sure to raise more than a few eyebrows and probably win some new fans at the VMAs next month. And one of her fellow nominees can’t wait to see her play live: B.o.B, who told MTV News last week that that he’s a huge fan of Welch and is expecting big things from her on VMA night. “Oh, man, I dig Florence so much. I listened to her perform ‘Dog Days Are Over’ at Coachella, and she’s amazing,” he said. “I hope she performs, and I hope she wins everything. I think she’s awesome.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners in general categories, including Best New Artist, from now through September 12.
