Hailee Steinfeld, James Franco, Nicole Kidman Grateful For Oscar Nominations

‘It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock,’ ‘True Grit’ teen star tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Hailee Steinfeld Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images As more and more of Hollywood woke up to the news of the Oscar nominations on Tuesday morning (January 25), the nominees themselves opened up about the recognition they’d received from the Academy. “What an extraordinary journey this film has taken me on! ‘Rabbit Hole’ has been a labor of love and I’m so thankful to John Cameron Mitchell, David Lindsay-Abaire and the brilliant cast,” Nicole Kidman said in a statement to MTV News about her Best Actress nod. “This nomination reflects all of the heart and soul that these people have put into it, and I can’t thank them enough.” Oscar host, James Franco, finds himself a nominee at the show as well. He’s up for Actor in a Leading Role for his role in “127 Hours.” “I’m about to go to class,” Franco said on the “Today” show. “I’ve got my normal pre-class makeup on, and there are some lights here. It’s great.” Hailee Steinfeld also spoke to the “Today Show” about her nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “True Grit.” “I was asleep and I heard my mom and dad screaming in the other room. They came in my room with flowers,” she said. “It was very exciting. It’s incredible. I’m in shock. The film overall is incredible. To be a part of it all was amazing. I’m so proud of it all.” “True Grit” directors/producers/writers Joel and Ethan Coen are up for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), but they didn’t want to seem greedy about it. “Ten [nominations] seems like an awful lot,” they told AwardsDaily.com. “We don’t want to take anyone else’s.” “The Fighter” star Melissa Leo was the first to speak to “Good Morning America” after her Supporting Actress nomination was announced. “What a thrill to share it with all of America right now,” she said. “Love to my family. Love to Alice Ward [the real-life woman I play in the film]. Thank you guys so much! Alice, we’re going to the Oscars!” Leo also commented on Mark Wahlberg not receiving a nomination for his part in the film. “Right now, Mark Wahlbergh, the most generous man I’ve ever met, is receiving all sorts of nominations. Every nomination is a nomination for Mark Wahlberg. There would be nothing without him,” she added. “It was just incredible. The proof is in the pudding.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . No Grit: Coen Brothers Shut Out at Directors Guild

Remember all that talk about how True Grit was the new Best Picture front runner because of its muscular box office ($110 million and counting)? Yeah, perhaps not. Joel and Ethan Coen failed to received a nomination from the Directors Guild this morning, meaning True Grit ‘s road to winning Best Picture just hit a major bump in the road. Or it didn’t, since the Coens could still grab a Best Director nomination from the Academy at the end of this month. Otherwise, this list features your usual suspects. Click ahead for the nominees.

9 Lessons Learned From Lifetime’s The Craigslist Killer

The Lifetime Network — otherwise known as the guilty pleasure center of your cable package — premiered The Craigslist Killer on Monday, its highly-publicized docudrama about the good-looking Boston medical student convicted of murdering masseuses he found on the Internet. Like any good Lifetime film, Killer included a romance, the poorly-acted betrayal of a pretty blond heroine who could not pick up a clue with a forklift, and the subtext that all men — especially the good-looking ones you don’t suspect — are evil. Ahead, I sift through the discarded Kleenex and chocolate wrappers to uncover nine lessons learned from the film.

The King’s Speech, The Fighter and The Social Network Lead Golden Globe Nominees

It looks like the Hollywood Foreign Press missed their screening of True Grit . The Coen Brothers Oscar favorite was completely ignored during this morning’s nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe awards, meaning young Hailee Steinfeld won’t get to rub elbows with an inebriated Brendan Fraser come Jan. 16. Don’t be too upset, though: The HFPA found room to nominate Johnny Depp…twice! Also, Red . Click ahead for the nominees.

Sandra Bullock, Oprah Winfrey Among 2011 Oscar Present

Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges also on the newly announced list of celebrities who will hand out trophies at the big event. By Jocelyn Vena Sandra Bullock Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Sandra Bullock took home a Best Actress trophy at the 2010 Oscars for her acclaimed turn in “The Blind Side,” and now the star will be on hand to present an award at next year’s big event when it takes place on February 27. Oscar nominee Oprah Winfrey and Oscar winners Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and Marisa Tomei also are part of the list of 2011 Academy Awards presenters that the show’s producers released on Monday. More Oscar presenters are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks, while the nominees will be announced on January 25. Meanwhile, the nominees for the Golden Globes were revealed on Tuesday, with films like “The Social Network” and “Tangled” getting nods. Oscar night will be hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco , with the latter actor also figuring to play an even more prominent part in the ceremony. The 32-year-old is considered a lock to nab a Best Actor nomination for his turn as a trapped hiker in “127 Hours,” the Danny Boyle-directed drama that’s also expected to compete for Best Picture honors. The 28-year-old Hathaway, meanwhile, remains a long shot in the Best Actress category for her role in “Love & Other Drugs,” which received mixed reviews and reeled in just $14 million over the extended Thanksgiving holiday. Hiring Franco and Hathaway as hosts certainly marks a strategic turn by the Academy, which has long been accused of being out of touch with the young pop-culture mainstream. A quick scan of Oscar history shows that, over the last two decades, no previous host has been younger than 40 when emceeing the show. Most recently, 64-year-old Steve Martin and 51-year-old Alec Baldwin assumed co-hosting duties, notching the event’s best ratings in five years. The 83rd Academy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on ABC. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Sandra Bullock

Huge Disney Flop to Become a Much-Anticipated Musical

Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein has signed on to write a libretto for a stage version of Newsies , the 1992 Disney bomb about the NYC paperboy strike of 1899. Fierstein will be aided by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken. The film has gained a considerable following since its poor box office performance, which once prompted star Christian Bale to note, “Time healed those wounds. But it took a while.” Newsboys are reportedly through with him professionally. [ Playbill ]
