‘American Idols Live!’ Tour Dates Announced

The top 10 will play 49 dates in North America beginning on July 1. By Gil Kaufman Tim Urban Photo: FOX We won’t know who the winner of this year’s “American Idol” is for another month, but superfans can start planning their summer around the “American Idols Live!” tour, which will kick off on July 1 with a show in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The annual trek featuring the show’s top 10 finalists — Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Katie Stevens and Tim Urban — is slated to wind up on September 14 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. As usual, the finalists will play a grueling schedule of arena dates that will feature solo spots for each, as well as group numbers reprising some of this season’s most beloved tunes. Thongs Banned In North Carolina Beach Town

When planning for a vacation, Kure Beach, North Carolina could be one of the good places to be. You can bring your sunscreen and shades, but not your thongs. The seaside community has adopted a zero tolerance policy on anyone wearing the barely-there bikini type swim wear by the shore on their part of North Carolina’s Pleasure Island, South of Wilmington. Last week, Mayor Dean Lambeth and the town supervisors unanimously approved the ordinance for banning the skimpy swim wear. The decision to forbid thongs was triggered by a couple who recently inquired about spending their honeymoon in Kure Beach. The couple asked if they could wear thongs. Section 12-32 of the Code of the Town of KureBeach which was adopted on April 22, states that it is illegal “for any person being naked or insufficiently clothed..to bathe or swim in the Atlantic Ocean” or any other area within the town’s jurisdiction. Sun-bathing naked or with insufficient clothe is also banned. It is clear in the code that thong bathing suit or similar attire is specifically prohibited. By Mawuse Ziegbe Afeni Shakur-Davis Photo: Annette Brown/ Getty Images Afeni Shakur, the activist mother of late hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur, was arrested for felony drug possession in Lumberton, North Carolina, earlier this month. According to The Fayetteville Observer, the ex-Black Panther was charged April 16 with felony possession of marijuana, simple possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance. Reps for Afeni and Lumberton Police had not responded MTV News’ requests for comment at press time. Since her son was fatally shot in 1996, Afeni has stayed busy upholding his legacy. She founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation in 1997, which provides arts and education programs for young people and mounts an annual performing-arts summer camp for youth from troubled homes. Afeni’s Amaru Entertainment was engaged in a legal battle with film company Morgan Creek last year over a movie about the rapper’s life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Afeni has also managed music from Tupac that was unreleased while the star was alive. Afeni’s battle with drug use is mentioned in Tupac’s hit 1995 song “Dear Mama.” When renovating the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation’s center in 2005, Afeni told MTV News that her tough past was a catalyst for starting an arts foundation. “When Tupac was 13 and I was homeless,” she said, “Tupac was in the 127th Street Ensemble [theater group] right here in New York. Those people, I believe, saved his life. So what we try to do is be that for the next generation of young people.” The Observer reports that bail was set at $10,000, and Afeni is currently out on bond, according to court reports.
