Enough Is Enough: One-Time Comes Down On “Occupy Wall Street” Movement, 85 People Popped On Saturday

In case you didn’t know, a large group of young people organized online and at least partially inspired by protest in the Middle East have been protesting banking institutions for the past week in NYC. Yesterday, their peaceful protest took a turn. Dozens of demonstrators who have vowed to “occupy” Wall Street were arrested Saturday on the seventh day of a social media-fueled protest against U.S. banking institutions, according to protest organizers. Patrick Bruner, a spokesman for the protest group that doesn’t have an official name but has often been referred to as “Occupy Wall Street,” said that their monitors have recorded at least 85 arrests being made on Saturday, most in the Union Square area. There were approximately 80 arrests, mainly for disorderly conduct by individuals who blocked vehicular and pedestrian traffic, but also for resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and, in one instance, for assault on a police officer, said NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. Mr. Bruner said the bulk of those arrests came around 2 p.m. The group planned a march from Union Square to the U.N. building. There was no permit for the march. Mr. Bruner said near 12th Street and University Avenue a large number of police officers converged on the group and used orange plastic nets to corral protesters who were then arrested. Protesters called this technique “kettling,” Mr. Bruner said. “On our march from Union Square the cops proceeded to use nets to round up people,” said Austin Johnson, 24, of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. “They split the group into two. As far as I understood, they arrested everyone in the nets.” Mr. Bruner said police used pepper spray on at least five people. He said another demonstrator was arrested because she refused to stop taking photographs of the arrests. An NYPD spokesman said he could not immediately confirm Mr. Bruner’s accounts about the pepper spray or photographer arrests. Hours later, Mr. Bruner said, one person who was arrested was sending out tweets through his Twitter account — @pulseofprotest — saying that he and other arrested protesters were still being driven around aimlessly in a police van. On Saturday night, hundreds of protesters gathered in Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan. There was a table set up at the entrance to the park with a sign saying “we need your signature to stay here,” asking the protesters to sign a petition for “the rights of Americans to assemble and practice their rights to free speech and thought.” At the park, Mr. Bruner said the protesters were attempting to decide what their next move would be. He said they were surrounded by a substantial amount of police officers. We doubt this will go as far as similar protests in London or the Middle East, but it’ll be interesting to see how it all turns out. Source

Scarlett Johansson and Kieran Culkin: Dating?

Sorry, Bradley Cooper . If you were gonna woo ScarJo, you may be too late. Was there some love in the air, or was it just two old friends reconnecting when Scarlett Johansson and Kieran Culkin spent time in the City of Love last week? Who knows, but that’s the rumor of the day – that they’ve coupled up ! They were seen together again the following day – this time at the airport, hopping a flight back to the U.S. – but does that mean there’s a romance brewing? People also reports that, before their departure, Johansson (who was photographed with two dancers) and Culkin visited the erotic burlesque venue, Crazy Horse. Then again, they really are old, good friends who attended the same high school – the Professional Children’s School – in NYC, where Culkin was two years older. Think they’re a couple? Has he seen the hacked photos ? Who knows! [Photos: WENN.com]

Nicki Minaj And More New York Fashion Week Highlights

Betsey Johnson, Charlotte Ronson, Rebecca Minkoff and Tracy Reese present MTV News’ favorite Spring 2012 collections. By Christina Garibaldi Nicki Minaj Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage New York Fashion Week is officially a wrap! Designers, models and fashionistas gathered around Lincoln Center in NYC to get a front-row seat to all the hottest looks for the Spring 2012 season. MTV News was there to give you a backstage pass to all the top designers and fill you in on all the latest trends. Here are the highlights: Betsey Johnson Betsey Johnson doesn’t just put on a runway show — she throws a party. The 69-year-old pint-sized fashionista folded all of her well-known looks — leopard, sequins, ruffles and lace — and came out with a line that was funky, bright and inspired. So, where did Johnson get her inspiration? From Nicki Minaj , of course! “I was watching Nicki Minaj and my daughter Lulu, and I’m thinking, ‘They are the body type,’ ” Betsey said of making the looks for her spring line. “I love [Nicki], and she really wears my stuff. She likes real tight. She’s just my most, most, most favorite girl right now.” Minaj, who was sitting front row in a tutu and blue cotton-candy hair, was in awe that her fashion icon is such a fan. “She’s a free spirit,” Nicki said of Betsey. “When I met her the other day, I felt like I knew her for my whole life. She’s so warm and considerate and caring. She’s amazingly talented, and I’ve been wearing her clothes forever, so to meet her was like, ‘Yay!’ I was bowing down to her. She’s dope!” Charlotte Ronson Charlotte Ronson kicked off our week with a retro feel, bringing us back to the ’70s with her Boho flare. Ronson’s ready-to-wear looks were inspired by the Victorian era, but of course, she added her signature grunge style to complete her collection. “It actually first started off being more Victorian: lots of light, sheer dresses and covered buttons and high necklines,” Ronson said of the inspiration behind her spring line. “It always falls into more of a Boho, ’70s feel, but then each season, we also add a little more grunge factor, and that comes in more with button-downs and pajama pants and patchwork denim and the crop tops and things like that.” Celebrity attendees included Kelly Osbourne, Whitney Port, Nicky Hilton and, as usual, Charlotte’s sister, Samantha Ronson, was on hand DJing the event. Tracy Reese Designer Tracy Reese’s Spring 2012 line was bursting at the seams with bright colors, flowy dresses and floral prints, making this line perfect for the everyday woman. “I wanted to do something very romantic, an ode to spring,” Reese said. “The clothes are very romantic, but very useful, very wearable. A lot of great color: brights, hot pinks, neons, beautiful blues — but the whole range from a sweet misty blue to a dark, strong peacock — pops of yellow and pretty neutrals to balance the whole thing out.” Rebecca Minkoff Rebecca Minkoff has made a name for herself designing purses that we constantly see used by A-list celebrities including Vanessa Hudgens, Blake Lively and Fashion Week front-row attendee Michelle Trachtenberg. “Her clothes make up half of my closet,” Trachtenberg told us on the runway. “[Her line] looks beautiful. You can literally walk it off the runway.” Minkoff’s spring line showed a collection of day-to-night outfits, complete with neons, beachwear and rocker-chic blazers. “What I love about this collection: It’s full of texture, really great color, a lot of brights — just happy spring,” Minkoff told us backstage. “I really concentrated on color, texture and just a little bit of sexy with an edge.” For complete coverage of New York Fashion Week , visit MTV Style. Eden Wood, Toddlers & Tiaras Great, Hearts Selena Gomez, HATES Justin Bieber

Eden Wood of Toddlers & Tiaras fame is mercifully retired at age SIX. Still, the aspiring actress is far from done with showbiz, and does not hesitate to make her feelings about some of Hollywood’s current stars known. Asked who her favorite singer was in a gripping interview with E! , Eden answered “Selena Gomez” without hestation. “She is so pretty. I want to be her.” Don’t even get her STARTED on that Bieber kid though. “I would punch him,” she said of the Bieb. “He’s just stupid!” Think Beliebers would send death threats to a six-year-old? She also doesn’t care for Miley Cyrus. When asked if she was a fan of the “Party in the USA” singer, Eden Wood replied: “No, she smoked a bong!” LOL, that she did . The pintsize performer danced, modeled and sang in a Toddler Fashion Week show (gag) in NYC, but wants to “do music” instead from now on. Phew.

Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon & Alex McCord: Fired From The Real Housewives of NYC?

Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon and Alex McCord will not be returning to the Real Housewives of New York City for its fifth season, according to a new report. The Huffington Post story, citing sources inside Bravo, claims the trio has been pink-slipped and they were given the news on Thursday. But is it true? Bravo has not officially commented. A rep for Zarin said, “Jill is still in discussions with Bravo for season 5 and no final decisions have been made.” Just recently, Zarin implied she would be back, so it’s unclear what to believe. Bensimon’s rep said no immediate casting decisions have been made. McCord Tweeted , “Speaking for myself only, there is no decision yet whether I’m in or out of #RHONY. Nothing’s finalized, though I’d like to do another year.” If those three were bounced, Ramona Singer and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps would be the only remaining original cast members on the reality show. Sonja Morgan and Cindy Barshop joined later. What do you think? Would you like to see all or none of these NYC Housewives back next season?

Ryan Gosling Is The New Franco And Other Lessons From Toronto

From Brad Pitt and George Clooney to the ‘cancer comedy’ and sex addicts, the Toronto International Film Fest was enlightening. By Josh Horowitz Ryan Gosling arrives at “Drive” Premiere at Ryerson Theatre during the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2011 in Toronto, Canada Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images TORONTO — The Toronto International Film Festival is many things to many people. Oscar season launching pad for some. Moviegoing nirvana for others. And if you want to catch sight of a celebrity, or two you could do a lot worse than a festival that lines them up every night as if you’re living inside the poster for “Ocean’s Eleven.” Yes, George Clooney was here (with two movies in tow), as were Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling and Madonna and … well, you get the picture. TIFF continues through this weekend, but MTV News (and I) packed up our troubles and hours of interviews on Wednesday (September 14). Truth be told, the festival moves into a slower gear by Tuesday/Wednesday every year. As always, I learned a lot in the past week. Here are just a few of those lessons: Brad Pitt Likes “The Incredibles” When I sat down with Pitt (for the first time, gulp), he, Jonah Hill and I fell into the standard TIFF conversation before the interview: “So, what’s good?” After I touted a few choice flicks, Pitt admitted all he gets to see are animated films at home, thanks to the kids — which of course segued into the standard animation conversation: best Pixar film ever? Brad and I heartily agreed on “The Incredibles,” while Jonah insisted that “Ratatouille” is it for him because of its unlikely brilliance given the subject matter. Agree to disagree, Jonah. 2011 Belongs to Gosling and Fassbender If 2010 was all about James Franco and Ryan Reynolds rising to A-list status, let’s all make some room for Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender this year. Each actor brought two films to TIFF this year, and they were among the most talked-about stars on the party circuit — and not for anything gossipy, just for brilliant, charismatic and unique performances. Gosling, the Canadian boy made good, brought George Clooney’s “The Ides of March” and “Drive” to TIFF, and both films seem destined for a slew of top 10 lists. “Drive” in particular is an iconic movie star role for Gosling — his nameless “driver” says very little but might be the coolest character of the year. Speaking of cool, anyone who saw “X-Men: First Class” was probably as mesmerized as I was by Michael Fassbender’s badass Nazi hunter Erik Lehnsherr (you can’t put Magneto on a driver’s license). But forget superhero movies for a second. Fassbender arrived in Toronto fresh off a Venice Film Festival win for a truly brave performance in “Shame.” I saw “Shame” at its Toronto premiere, and while it’s not for everyone, this character study of a sex addict in NYC will likely have Fassbender on the awards circuit the next few months. An ABC Family Star Will Probably Be Getting an Oscar Nod I’ll come clean and admit I’m not intimately familiar with the “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” but Shailene Woodley certainly has my attention now. The young actress more than holds her own opposite Clooney (himself delivering one of his best performances) in Alexander Payne’s sad, funny chronicle of a family under duress, “The Descendants,” She’ll make you cry. Promise. Don’t Be Scared of the Cancer Comedy The only problem with “50/50” is that the shorthand on it is a tough sell for date night (i.e. the “cancer” comedy). But I’ve now seen this flick twice, and it’s a crowd-pleaser of the highest order. It was the only film I saw in Toronto that received a standing ovation. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogem, Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard, it’s loosely inspired by screenwriter Will Reiser’s true cancer experience — like “The Descendants” it’s another brilliant and honest film that touches you in all the right ways. And that’s just the tip of the TIFF iceberg, my friends. In the next few days, we’re rolling out interviews with the likes of Megan Fox, Leighton Meester, Clive Owen, Rachel Weisz, Emily Blunt and Gerard Butler — and yeah, more from those guys Gosling and Pitt.
