Get Involved: Voter Turnout For Black Women Is A Major Key To Keeping Donald Trump Out Of The White House

Black Voter Turnout Is Imperative To Keeping Donald Trump From Being Elected President RawStory taken the liberty of breaking down exactly why it is SO important that each and everyone of us do our civic duty and cast our votes. All of us, but especially black women… As the Democratic nominating contest speeds up, African-American voters – especially women – have some tough, and influential, choices to make. South Carolina is the first primary where African Americans are the majority of Democratic voters, controlling 55 percent of the vote. That makes South Carolina a battleground for black votes, especially those of African-American women. We know that victories in early primaries are important. Later voters often pick their candidate based on early primary outcomes. The South Carolina primary is perhaps as important as the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries because it could create momentum in subsequent contests where black votes will help candidates win. The following statistics explains exactly how influential the black vote can be and how detrimental it can be for us if we don’t… African-American voters are the most loyal supporters of the Democratic Party. Their support for Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore was 90 percent in 2000. In 2004, they voted for John Kerry by 88 percent. Barack Obama won an all-time high of 95 percent in 2008. According to exit polls, black voters were 13 percent of the national electorate in 2008. They represented approximately one in every 4.25 Obama voters that same year. Sixty-five percent, or 15.9 million, of voting-age African Americans cast a ballot in the general election, compared to 66.1 percent of white citizens. But, the voter turnout rate among eligible black female voters was 68.8 percent – the highest of all racial, ethnic and gender groups in the 2008 American presidential election. Especially in southern states with large black voting-eligible populations – including South Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina and Louisiana – the black female voter outperformed in terms of registration and turnout. Since 1996, this gender gap has been consistently present. African-American women voted at higher rates than African-American men by a range of 7 or 8 percentage points in 2008. That rate was even higher – about 9 percentage points – in 2012, which is 6 percentage points higher than other racial groups. All this is to say that we, as people of color, HAVE to have the same level of enthsiasm about voting in November as we did in 2008 when Obama was running for his first term. Anything less than that will lead to all of us watching “President Trump” take the oath in 2017… Image via Shutterstock

Bolitics: Should President Barack Obama Choose A SCOTUS Successor Following Justice Antonin Scalia’s Death?

President Obama To Choose Successor Following Justice Antonin Scalia’s Death Conservative Court Justice Antonin Scalia , who voted against Obamacare, same-sex gay marriage and said affirmative action sends black students to schools “too advanced” for them, has peacefully passed away at age 79 while in Texas. Now, Republicans are trying to stall President Obama right to pick a new successor as soon as possible according to CNN reports: Within two hours of Scalia’s death being reported, presidential candidates along with Republican and Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill were feuding over whether Obama should appoint a replacement for the eloquent and outspoken Scalia or wait for the next administration to make a decision. The battle lines underscored the huge political stakes in the 2016 election, which could cement the ideological balance of the court for years to come. Obama said Saturday he would nominate a successor “in due time,” but Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell insisted the next administration should make the appointment. “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice,” the Kentucky Republican said. “Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.” But Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid issued a scathing statement, previewing the heated fight ahead. “The President can and should send the Senate a nominee right away,” Reid said. “With so many important issues pending before the Supreme Court, the Senate has a responsibility to fill vacancies as soon as possible. It would be unprecedented in recent history for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat. Failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate’s most essential Constitutional responsibilities.” News of Scalia’s death broke hours before the latest Republican presidential debate and added another explosive element to a heated GOP primary campaign. Even before Saturday, the fate of the Supreme Court was already a key election issue, given the possibility that the next President could get the chance to nominate at least two or three Justices due to the age of those on the bench and the possible shift of the ideological balance of the court. Views From The 1600: President Obama’s Most Fascinating Photos From 2015 [Part 1]

White House Releases Most Captivating Photos Of President Barack Obama From 2015 Happy new year, BOSSIP fam! 2015 was an extraordinary year for our President, Barack Obama . He had to deal with a maddening number of public shootings, a failing healthcare system, civil rights issues and all while trying to find ways to keep Americans employed. The POTUS shared some thoughts with us about his most eventful year via Facebook: Happy New Year, everybody! There’s a lot I’m grateful for over this past year: Businesses that continued an all-time record streak of job creation; a health care system that covers more than 90 percent of us for the first time; a country where all our marriages are equal under the law for the first time; a world united around a prosperous, low-carbon future for the first time. But mostly, I’m grateful for you, and to be your President – because it’s your hard work, determination, and fundamental decency that led us forward through 2015, and that will keep leading us forward in 2016. Because of you, as long as I’ve had the privilege to serve in this office, I’ve never been more optimistic for a year ahead. So here’s my resolution: to do everything I can, with every day I have left, partnering with as many of you as possible, to keep making the promise of this country a reality for all of us. White House photographer Pete Souza and his staff have released some very poignant photographs of the President that were taken over the course of last year that show the commander-in-chief in his role as leader, father, friend, gentleman and vulnerable human being.
