Republican Congressman Says President Obama Plans To Make All Black People Immune To Criminal Prosecution A Republican congressman from Kansas is stirring the political pot with his recent comments regarding the way President Obama is responding to the problem of racist policing of African-Americans in the United States. via Think Progress As reported by Right Wing Watch, Kansas’ Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) told listeners of his radio show that President Obama could absolve black people of all crimes and refuse to prosecute them in the future. He also implied that Attorney General Eric Holder is a reverse racist for not applying civil rights laws to white people. During the weekly show, a caller named Stu postulated that Obama may announce in the future that a “black person accused of a crime, charged with a crime, is not going to be prosecuted, regardless of the crime,” based on his recent immigration action. He also argued that the government is already in the process of doing so, since Holder did not prosecute Black Panthers. Kobach didn’t dispute the claims, saying, “Well, it’s already happened more or less in the case of civil rights laws. I guess it’s not a huge jump. I think it’s unlikely, but you know I’ve learned to say with this president, never say never.” He also claimed that Holder “basically made it clear….that the civil rights laws were only to protect minority races, and he was not going to be enforcing them to the benefit of white people who were discriminated against on the basis of their race.” So, to be clear, pursuing legislation that would make the way black people are policed in America equal to the way white people are policed in America is unjust, and we all should also be fighting for the civil rights of privileged white people while we work towards equal rights for all. Congressional Black Caucus: President Obama Doesn’t Care About Struggling HBCUs President Obama has received flack from the black community for nearly his entire time in office over claims that he supposedly neglects HBCUs and now a new report from the CBC is echoing those sentiments. via HBCU Digest A report from Congressional Black Caucus blog CrewOf42.com quotes several members of the caucus saying that President Barack Obama offered harsh criticism of black colleges during a meeting with the caucus earlier this week. In his first meeting with the caucus in nearly two years, President Obama said that low graduation rates, not federal funding cuts or his community college free tuition plan, were the greatest threats to HBCUs. “He said there were some HBCUs that were not good at graduating students and if they did not improve they’d have to go by the wayside,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA). “In other words he didn’t show much empathy for struggling HBCUs. It was like show me the numbers and if the numbers aren’t where they need to be, that’s it. It was a somewhat callous view of the unique niche HBCUs fill,” Rep. Johnson, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, said. Rep. Johnson said there needs to be a deeper discussion with the President on HBCU issues. Other legislators shared the sentiments. The CBC’s First Vice Chair, Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) said, “I was concerned about what the President said because it feeds into a narrative about the value of these institutions and whether they are equip to educate our students and what the cost is for doing so,” Rep. Clarke added. “Many of these institutions have not had a maintenance of effort on the part of states or the federal government and over time that wears on their ability to maintain standards or even advance beyond a certain level. It was very clear that he doesn’t have the same level of appreciation for what these institutions have done and could do in the future given the right support systems,” Rep. Clarke concluded. President Obama clearly has a million things on his plate and it seems no matter how many of them he’s able to tend to, there’s always someone left dissatisfied with how he decides to handle things. President Obama Lied About Same Sex Marriage Stance To Win Voters Turns out President Barack Obama has always been more progressive in his views on gay marriage than he initially let on. That is, if you believe the report of one of his former top aides. As David Axelrod writes in his new book, “Believer: My Forty Years in Poltics,” released Tuesday, Obama had supported gay marriage for years before he considered running for the presidency. However, he had to turn down his support to garner more support from the Black church — known to be staunchly against homosexual couples marrying in the same fashion as traditional couples. As Axelrod wrote in his book (via CNN ): “Gay marriage was a particularly nagging issue. For as long as we had been working together, Obama had felt a tug between his personal views and the politics of gay marriage. Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a ‘sacred union.’” “Obama started saying in 2010 that his views were evolving on the issue and in May 2012 Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, citing ‘the evolution that I went through.’” Being that he was going against his true beliefs on the matter, Obama often had problems answering press questions on the manner correctly. According to Axelrod: “Obama never felt comfortable with his compromise and, no doubt, compromised position. He routinely stumbled over the question when it came up in debates or interviews. ‘I’m just not very good at bulls—ting,’ he said with a sigh after one such awkward exchange.” Hey…gotta play the game sometimes. The event raised awareness for the It’s On Us campaign, an organization dedicated to the issue of sexual assault. It was a bold move and an admirable move… but it was also a hypocritical move, according to Alexander Gaskarth. “Wow. Unbelievable. Maybe #ItsOnUs to not invite people like @chrisbrown to the fcking Grammys. Am I wrong?,” the All Time Low singer Tweeted. “I’m all for atonement and forgiveness, but it seems a little crass to me…” Brown, of course, gave then-girlfriend Rihanna a black eye after a pre-Grammys party in 2009 – he was in attendance at last night’s ceremony. And many took note of the hypocrisy, saying Brown’s presence undercut the important message sent by Perry and company. Brown remained relatively calm in his response to Gaskarth, Tweeting back to the artist: “you sound really perfect brother… How can I get those VIP tickets to the pearly gates bro… Seems like you have it down.” To his credit, Gaskarth did not back down. “I’m not worried about the pearly gates RN, man,” he Tweeted. “Worried about here and now… And double standards.
