U .S. Rep. Ron DeSantis , the GOP’s Florida governor nominee, denied connections to a racist once again. DeSantis distanced himself from a donor who called President Barack Obama the N-word, but the candidate will likely keep the campaign funds. NewsOne did not receive an immediate response Thursday from DeSantis’ campaign on whether the more than $20,000 from Steven A. Alembik was given back. See Also: Don’t ‘Monkey This Up’: Andrew Gillum’s Trump-Backed Opponent Shows His Racism To Florida Voters Alembik, a 67-year-old self-employed data and email services provider, tweeted on Wednesday that the former president is a “F—KING MUSLIM N—ER,” Politico reported. He wrote the slur in response to a Republican National Committee tweet disparaging Obama for criticizing the GOP. “We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: we adamantly denounce this sort of disgusting rhetoric,” DeSantis campaign spokesman Stephen Lawson said in a written statement, according to Politico. But it’s unclear whether the campaign continued to hold on to Alembik’s contributions to DeSantis, which totaled $22,920 over the years. There seems to be no end to the long list of white supremacists associated with Rep. Ron DeSantis. Here's our updated timeline… https://t.co/0u8HGrfJMZ #AndrewGillum pic.twitter.com/Llr0TrTn4D — NewsOne (@newsone) September 20, 2018 It didn’t take long for the Trump-backed nominee to fire off a racist attack against Andrew Gillum , Florida’s first Black nominee for governor. DeSantis warned Florida voters in a TV interview not to “monkey this up” by electing Gillum. DeSantis’ racist comment came less than 24 hours after the two candidates won their party’s nomination in the Aug. 28 Florida primary election. The Republican nominee denied that his remark was racist but that’s hard to believe given his long history of associating with white supremacists. After blowing his racist dog whistle in the televised interview, new details emerged about deep links between white nationalists and the congressman. He spoke four times at Freedom Center conferences organized by right-wing conservative David Horowitz , who has said Black people owe their freedom to whites who are the target of the nation’s “only serious race war,” according to the Washington Post . R epublicans are showing their desperation to hold on to political power by resorting to petty attacks on Black candidates, as the GOP braces for a possible Democratic avalanche in the midterm elections. See Also: From Kamala Harris To Stacey Abrams: How Black Woman Are Saving Democracy The latest example happened in Wisconsin where Mandela Barns is running for lieutenant governor. On Monday, he called it “crazy” that his GOP rival would claim without evidence that he knelt during the national anthem at a state fair over the summer, Fox 6 News reported. Incumbent Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch , who was reportedly at the fair during the ceremony, told reporters that other people told her Barnes was kneeling. Here’s how Barns responded to her allegation: Me, a candidate. Michelle Obama is going on tour . The former First Lady admits she’s “a little frightened” by how candid she got in her brand new memoir, Becoming but she’s nonetheless proud about her open and honest new memoir. “Over this time that I’ve been out of the White House, I’ve had time to think and reflect for the first time in a long time. I spent some time really thinking about the people, the stories and the experiences that have shaped me and helped me become the person I am today,” Obama, 54, explains in an intimate new video released Wednesday. The synopsis of the book reads, “IN A LIFE filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.” Tickets are on sale at https://www.becomingmichelleobama.com starting at $29.50.
Source: Drew Angerer / Getty Crazed Star Spangled Banner disciples will go out their way to say how much they hate Colin Kaepernick . If he puts his name on something, the American flag waving, MAGA hat wearing citizens are ready to burn it down. Just recall the moment Kaep started protesting police brutality by taking a knee during the national anthem. MAGA Twitter went OFF by burning their Colin Kaepernick jerseys on camera for all of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to see. Now folks are gathering their charcoal and lighting fluid once again thanks to a move Colin made with Nike. According to ESPN , the major shoe brand named Kaepernick as the face of their “Just Do It” campaign, which is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary as Nike’s key slogan. On Monday, Colin shared the news on social media with the message “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. #JustDoIt pic.twitter.com/SRWkMIDdaO — Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) September 3, 2018 So of course, this had MAGA Twitter PISSED . Giving up something you love for the well being of others is a lot more American than giving false reverance to a piece of fabric. I am definitely a proud member of #VeteransForKaepernick — John (@jtckck27) September 4, 2018 Instead of burning your Nike gear bcuz u hate Kaep for dissing vets, and now u hate Nike for standing w Kaep, please send it to me and I will hand deliver them to homeless people and vets myself. #JustDolt #Kaepernick #veteransforkaepernick PM me for an address. — Dave (@bbcoach19) September 4, 2018 It seems like any paraphernalia protest that doesn’t involve fire and destruction is too advanced for the MAGA squad. According to The Wall Street Journal , Colin’s deal with Nike is set to pay him a “top of the line” multiyear deal. This might be one way Kaepernick is making money for himself, considering he remains unsigned with an NFL team. The athlete is suing the NFL for colluding to keep him out of the league. With Colin’s new “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything” motto, Nike is hoping to reach 15 to 17 year olds, according to Nike’s vice president of brand for North America, Gino Fisanotti. He told ESPN , “We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who has leveraged the power of sport to help move the world forward.” Not to mention, let’s not act like Nike doesn’t have a huge Black audience. So even if a mostly White community supports #NikeBoycott or if Nike’s stock has started to drop , there definitely will be a fan-base for Kaep’s “Just Do It” campaign. So for now, MAGA Twitter will have to stay mad.

V oting has long been a passionate subject for Michelle Obama . A new video sheds light on exactly why the former first lady is a strong crusader for voting rights—and why she is encouraging people to exercise their power at the polls. Obama shared a powerful story about watching her father vote as a child in the clip, which is part of her “When We All Vote” campaign, an initiative that she co-chairs in an effort to spur voter registration ahead of the midterm elections. Before “When We All Vote” hits the road for a week of action from Sept. 22-29, the ex-FLOTUS had another Black excellence moment that she hopes will inspire people to head to the ballot box in November. We’re hosting #WhenWeAllVote Week of Action events across the country in September. Find an event near you or host your own in your community: https://t.co/92nuLHTsuZ https://t.co/ryswooZhVs — When We All Vote (@WhenWeAllVote) August 21, 2018 Her story underscored her father’s passion and dedication for voting despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. “I grew up in a household where voting was something you did all the time,” Obama said in the video. “And my father, who had multiple sclerosis, I remember going to the polling place with him and how much effort it took for him to park his car, to get his crutches, to walk into the church basement in our local neighborhood where he voted. And to stand there, holding himself up, making sure he cast his ballot. I remember my father doing this exercise every single election.” Seeing her dad vote made Obama think about what a “special responsibility” it was — a right that African-American groups fought for during the civil rights era. The clip makes clear that voting was not only a right for Obama, but a rite of passage. She encourages voting in the presidential election and at the local level. Watch her video below. As previously reported in terrible detail, Lyric McHenry was found dead early Tuesday morning in New York City. The former E! reality star, who made appearances two years ago on the only season of EJNYC , was discovered around 5 a.m. — only wearing underwear and a pajama top. But that wasn’t all. Authorities have confirmed that a small ziplock bag of cocaine was also found on McHenry’s person, leading the police to presume that she died of a drug overdose. However, an investigation is open and more information will possibly be revealed in the coming days. Perhaps most shocking and disturbing of all? McHenry was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. A multitude of social media images and videos from the night before her passing make it clear she was out partying, although we can’t confirm whether she was drinking or not. Then, of course, there’s the issue of that cocaine. This is all a preamble to the following question… Did Lyric McHenry know she was pregnant? One would assume so, based on how far along reports have claimed her to have been. But a friend named Etienne Maurice tells Radar Online that he was very close to Henry and he had no clue about the impending child. “Nobody knew,” says this pal. “I’m trying to figure out how. I’m completely blindsided.” Maurice goes on to say that he doesn’t believe McHenry was aware, either, emphasizing that she wasn’t showing a baby bump at all. (Women, of course, have a very distinct way of knowing whether or not they are pregnant aside from the size of their stomach.) McHenry, based on everything we’ve read so far, certainly wasn’t acting pregnant. But the sad truth is that some people do not treat their bodies well even when they are aware that a fetus is growing inside. Aside from the pregnancy issue, questions continue to swirl around the manner in which McHenry was found. Could she have been murdered? Did she overdose and then get dumped on the sidewalk? Maurice previously told Radar that McHenry left her friends on Monday night outside of a club and got into a car with someone none of them knew and cannot now identity. McHenry was a Stanford University graduate who interned on the Obama campaign as a teenager; hence the photograph above. Her father, Doug McHenry, who has produced films that include New Jack City, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and the House Party franchise, issued a statement through his publicist on Wednesday describing his daughter as “a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film, and a longstanding commitment to social justice.” And the family as a whole said the following yesterday evening: The McHenry Family deeply appreciates the many communications of support from Lyric McHenry’s many friends upon learning of her untimely death at approximately 6:00 AM the morning of August 14th, 2018. Despite the speculation in earlier reports, at this point in time the cause of Lyric’s death has yet to be determined. The lengthy statement concluded as follows: In contrast, what is factual and known is that Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film and a long-standing commitment to social justice. She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education and graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles. Lyric graduated from Stanford University in 2014 where she studied in Paris, France for a year and spoke fluent French… Lyric’s warmth, compassion and energy will be missed by many and the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease until the real facts are determined during the current investigation by the NYPD and the City of New York. The Funeral Service will be held in her hometown Los Angeles at a date to be determined. View Slideshow: The Most Shocking Reality Star Deaths: Gone, But Not Forgotten
