Jurnee Smollett-Bell Calls Colorism “Disgusting” Says, “There Are Challenges My Darker Skinned Sisters Face That I Will Never Know”

Jurnee Smollett-Bell Says She Was Never A Child Star And “Underground” Isn’t A Slavery Show Jurnee Smollett-Bell never disappoints, whether we’re talking about her beauty in an editorial fashion spread or her intellect in a magazine interview. It’s no wonder she was chose to grace the cover of Ebony Magazine’s March issue . Inside the issue the 30-year-old actress is outspoken as she addresses a variety of topics, including the reality of bias toward lighter skinned women in Hollywood (and the world at large). “There are obstacles and challenges that my dark-skinned sisters face that I will never know,” Smollett-Bell tells EBONY . “How they are perceived when they walk in a room of strangers is something I will never truly know. I would be ignorant to say colorism doesn’t exist, it’s gross and disgusting.” Amen to that Sis! Good to see she is not one of those who would bypass an issue because it hasn’t negatively impacted them. Many of us met Jurnee when she was just a kid, in her role as Eve in the film “Eve’s Bayou,” but Smollett Bell shuns labels like “child star.” “I wouldn’t even call myself a former child star. I was a child actor; there’s a difference,” she explains. “People look at you and they think they know you. They think they can place you in a certain category by what they think they know about you. But there’s so much more to all of us than what we know and what we see at face value.” We see this so often with actors and celebs in general — nobody likes being put in boxes. Would you agree with what Smollett says though? One of the other issues Smollett addressed is the success of her show “Underground” which is entering its second season despite what some would call “slavery fatigue” among viewers resistant to seeing more portrayals of the painful period. “I think we had seen the occupation so much, we wanted to see the revolution and that is what Underground is,” says the actress who plays Rosalee. “It was the story of the uprising. It was the story of those of us who fought back, who attempted to fight for their freedom,” she explains. “That was a side of the story we were hungry to see in order to understand our whole history.” Do you agree? Have you been watching “Underground?” Hit the flip for more photos from Smollett’s Ebony spread.

Jessica Hart Disses Taylor Swift, Labels Victoria’s Secret Modeling as "Benchmark of All Jobs"

Jessica Hart is very high on her occupation. And not very high on Taylor Swift. Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily following the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – which was held Wednesday in New York City – Jessica Hart had harsh words for the singer who performed at the event. Asked if Swift could be a model for the famous lingerie company, Hart simply said “no” and then elaborated: “I think she’s great. But, I don’t know, to me, she didn’t fit. I don’t know if I should say that.” Too late. She said it. Then again, according to Hart, almost no one could be a Victoria’s Secret model. This is apparently the apex to which we all should strive in our professional lives. “I think what you find is that for a lot of us, we’ve been working for 14, 15 years; what it takes to make it here comes from experience and confidence and knowing how to be confident with yourself,” said Hart, adding: “I think it comes with age. It’s definitely the benchmark of all jobs.” Sorry, President Obama, nuclear scientists and brain surgeons. Try wearing only underwear for your jobs if you want them to mean anything. But back to Swift: Do you think she could be a Victoria’s Secret model?   Sure, if she wanted to be Nope, doesn’t have the body for it I’d like to see her try! View Poll »

2 Chainz Arrest: Rapper Claims Jewelry Mistaken For Brass Knuckles, Laments Assassination of Swag

Rapper 2 Chainz was arrested at NYC’s LaGuardia Airport this week for packing what TSA officials called “brass knuckles” in his carry-on luggage. It turns out it was just his four-finger ring, but police weren’t buying it and 2 Chainz, a.k.a. Tity Boi, had to spend a few hours in jail as a result. Not only that, police confiscated his jewelry as well. Tough break. “They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in a surprisingly upbeat interview after the fact. “It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff.” Word … we’ve all been there, right? Police charged him with misdemeanor possession of a weapon. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” an officer said. “I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like literally. When you see my gold, it’s something to conversate about,” he explained. “People weren’t doing four-finger rings and all that. I like to set myself apart … I definitely wasn’t trying to beat nobody up on the plane or nothing.” 2 Chainz eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser unspecified charge, but never did get his jewels back … or the designer case he totes them in. “Yeah they took it from me, they took the custom Louis [Vuitton] case that I actually keep the jewelry in, they took that. I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Me just trying to explain it was getting too frustrating, it was just me there trying to explain my occupation … It was like a weird experience.” Undoubtedly, 2 Chainz. Undoubtedly. [Photo: WENN.com]

Help Caption This Photo of Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey Stripping in ‘Magic Mike’

One of the most anticipated titles among circles who enjoy male strippers and movies is the upcoming Steven Soderbergh drama Magic Mike — a movie about male strippers that allegedly lured the filmmaker away from early retirement . At long last, a first image from the project has surfaced featuring Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum striking a pose onstage for what promises to be a very patriotic (and erotic) dance number. You know what this means, fellow Movieliners — grab the nearest captioning pen and stack of singles. Where to even begin? McConaughey appears in classic McConaughey fashion ( shirtless ). Tatum appears in classic G.I. Joe franchise-star fashion (in camouflage). For further captioning reference, the official premise of Magic Mike is as follows: “Veteran male stripper Magic Mike (Tatum) teaches a new male stripper (Pettyfer) about the occupation. They work at the club Xquisite, which is owned by the former male stripper Dallas (McConaughey).” The project is inspired by Tatum’s experiences as a teenage stripper in Florida. Joe Manganiello (also pictured above) co-stars as Big Dick Richie. Magic Mike is scheduled for a June 29, 2012, release. Let the captioning begin! Follow Julie Miller on Twitter .
