On Friday after a board meeting the officials of Michael McAteer, a liquidator for Quinn Insurance, announced that it was necessary for them to cut down some of their workforce in order to defend their financial future. They said that the company has been going through the hardest recession period, so resultantly about 300 people will loose their jobs in Blanchard Town and 200 jobs will go to Derrylin Enniskillen. This phase will leave a workforce of 450 people in these branches. As a result of

Monument lifted from Cleopatra’s underwater city

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – Egyptian archaeologists on Thursday lifted an ancient granite temple pylon out of the waters of the Mediterranean, where it had lain for centuries as part of the palace complex of Cleopatra, submerged in Alexandria's harbor. The pylon, which once stood at the entrance to a temple of Isis, is to be the centerpiece of an ambitious underwater museum planned by Egypt to showcase the sunken city, which is believed to have been toppled into the sea by earthquakes in the 4th century. Divers and underwater archaeologists used a giant crane and ropes to lift the 9-ton, 7.4-foot-tall pylon, covered with muck and seaweed, out of the murky waters.

WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to announce Tuesday night that he will begin to transition American forces out of Afghanistan beginning in July 2011, setting the first time frame to wind down the war there nearly a decade after the United States first sent troops in to topple the Taliban government, senior administration officials said. Mr. Obama will set the drawdown goal even as he orders another 30,000 troops to deploy to Afghanistan over the next six months in an effort to reverse the momentum of Taliban insurgents fighting to regain control of the country
